So that was the disaster I call "talk to your tuner before buying parts". I still have not learnt my lesson.

Basically Racepace tuned the car to a nice , safe and reliable 234rwkws. After about a year I wanted more grunt and everybody says cams do that for you on an RB. So i grabbed some Apexi, 260/9.00mm cams, threw them in with a new timing belt, idler bearings and water pump and tuned away. Hours of dyno time later, the thing was las laggy and didnt respond to fuel and ignition whislt tuning as well as it did with std cams, suggesting the engine was now over cam'd. So back went the std cams and voila....engine was a lot more responsive and because I had an appetite for more power Racepace just leaned on the tune a little to give it another 30rwkws odd at the same boost, just with ignition and fuel changes, perhaps a further tweak of the cam gears.

Tune is still rock solid with no issues, having run as high as 22psi boost with no issue and engine still has no blow by. Std cams seem to be the way to go when you have a small little 8cm exhaust housing...even with the cams the engine seems to just choke on its exhaust gases. I will try soem 256/8.5 or 26/10.25cams if the Plazmaman plenum gives a performance increase sufficient enough for me to go to a 10cm exhaust housing.

i am ssuming you are running the td06 20g l2

no more grunt cause the f**ker will not make more that 260-80rwkw

you need larger

the 25g should open it up for ya fag!

Ok, so with he body work requiring attention, she sat around at a workshop for a while waiting for time, parts and the biggest factor me coming back to Australia and actually needing it back on the road.

So with some to and fro over how much to pump guards, how to mod the R34 spoiler for the right rake...and all the other usual stuff that goes with re-spraying a car...

So , after plenty of patience and hard work from the panel beater...

So at the moment car has almost got its new 6boost manifold installed, meaning its time to tinker with some more of the bolt ons I have sitting around.

The Trust Ti exhaust I want to run may not get the nod. It seems my HKS Hyper exhaust is quieter and with the gate being plumbed back with the new setup I need the thing to be as quiet as possible so that I actually get some running on the track….AND NOT black flagged after only a handful of laps

Having thrown a few brake setups at the old girl, I am hoping this will be my last brake setup that I run for a while

Just need to machine up the mounts so that I can use the callipers with the new 343 x 32mm 32 vane rotors I have on order. Also waiting for Performance Friction to release the new compound of pad I am waiting to run.

Also waiting in the wings is a set of 256/8.5mm Poncams. It’s a huge waste of money because the engine-turbo setup is already a pretty good setup. But I am hoping that the new 6boost manifold, E85 fuel, will give me a bump in response and allow me to trial the TD06-25G 8cm and TD06-20G 10cm and see which setup works best, and whether with the bigger hotsides I can get more benefit from some baby cams

Yes it would be easier to throw a bigger RB in there….but still keen to see how much you can get out an RB20 setup. But with new Plazmaman plenum and new rockers covers, fuel rail etc, may as well trial the cams and see if we can stumble onto a 280-310rwkws RB20 setup ;)

Just stumbled across this Roy.... I feel unloved!

Great thread mate, I have so much love for the 20's, without a doubt, the most reliable and fun car I've ever owned!

Your old white Weds wheels could tell some stories, amongst many other things, they've been on fire with you, and through fences in Tassie with me ;)

And your new 'ARC cooler looks very familiar, I remember tracing and cutting the stencils to spray on the ARC logo back in 2000. That 'cooler cost me $2800 landed back then, and it was 2nd hand! lol

Here it is on my gtr that I built from nothin;

GTR.jpg

Grabbed them locally, was tempted to grab a set of the 332 setups a few weeks back but knowing how good the F40s are on my car I am concerned that Stoptech only use a 38 and 34mm piston in their R32 GTSt kit. Plus I went to all that trouble with wheels to make sure I can clear a 343mm rotor, it would be a crime to go back to a 332mm rotor. With my upgraded rears I would prefer a little more front bias in my kit. So the ST40s i grabbed have the same piston size as the R33 GTR Brembo / F40

The Stoptechs have a bolted bridge that you remove, then they are basically a cross between Brembo F40/50s and Porsche 4 pots. The Stoptech calipers have a large and confusing number of piston combinations where they use the bigger rotor to give you more front braking torque and thermal capacity, but use smaller pistons so that they work with the std rear brakes, master cylinder and dont make the car much more front biased.
