Hey again,

I am looking to do the free boost mod on my R33 but I need a boost gauge to accurately read the boost changes (to see a before and after effect).

On Trademe they range from $100+ "Auto Meter" gauges to $15 "M&H" ones. I just want it to be accurate and I want to avoid paying $85+ plus for something that will do the same job. Any brands recommended or are they all pretty much the same?

sometimes its easier to buy a digital boost controller which is a guage as well

saves extra junk and you get both benefits, accurate control with protection and digital readout

This is also a very good statement!

Make sure you get a known brand and not a cheap one. as it goes back to the saying, you get what you pay for :(

no the stocker is crap. its hard to read finely, and often slow/inaccurate.
The stock one goes up to 7 and that is not in psi. Its the other type, I forget what it is called. It is hard to read what it is actually doing.

But he has a stock car and is just getting rid of the low/high boost thing the R33 does and just making it run the high boost all the time. The stock gauge is fine for this, it reads up to 1 bar (it reads is mm/mg). Yes the stock gauge aint the best, but for him to see if it is running 7psi-10psi it will do the job fine for the current situation he is asking about.

i went with an autogauge one from just jap.. $85 bucks, so long as you dont mind the ear piercing 3 second beep when you start the car

similar to this, but in psi. Allows to recall your peak boost and set warning signal if boost spikes..

Also i think from memory it can be daisy chained with other autogauges (oil press / temp etc)

It looks very similar to the gauges I have, the beep can be disabled if you have wired it to constant power by simply holding the button in for a few seconds as you turn the power on.

I think a good s/hand boost controller is the better option also. They don't just hold well but can warn on overboost and then cut boost to a preset amount if something goes wrong.

ahh, thats why it wont shutup.. I can mute the beeping once the car is on (i.e when it hits the warning level) soon as i turn it off / on again, the beeping starts..

to the OP : in my opinion, if your keeping the car fairly stock then i'd just use a boost gauge / tpiece boost controller. if your planning to do mild - heavy mods - electronic boost controller makes more sense.

Get an Apexi EL, they are awesome, I literally Jizz in my pants everytime I look at mine.

Im in love with mine.

Cept these days they cost a left nut and right arm. Not to mention you need the control box.

Been waiting for some sort of discount so i can finally get some oil temp/pressure gauges.

"I want to spend $20 and have the same quality as spending $100"

won't happen. Pay shit, you get shit. Only buy cheap things if you enjoy opening your wallet multiple times.

Agree.

Some of the Autometer/gauge (can never remember the difference) arent too bad.

I had a couple of smoke screen dials in my ITR. The needle fell off one of them launching on the drag strip :s And pulling it apart to put it back on completely f**ked the shape of the housing. So had to buy a new one

Could have bought one decent gauge for the cost of two asshat ones. haha
