Thanks for the comments guys. I put the stock exhaust back on and will take the whole shebang to an exhaust shop for fitting.

I think I'll get away with the XForce cat as is since the catback is an R33 HKS item and needs a good chop to fit anyway. They might just as well adjust the midpipe front flange whilst they're at it.

I also noticed that the JJR front/dump doesn't have a rear support bracket like the stock front pipe (and the likes of Blitz and HPI) does.

I don't think 2 metres of exhaust piping + cat hanging freely between the turbo and the mid muffler is a great idea so I'll ask em to weld in a bracket for that too.

Note to self: Next time try not to cheap out and get a turbo back system that is actually designed for the model :huh:

I got a front/dump pipe similar to this, was gonna have a go at installing it myself but am a bit worried about stripping/snapping bolts. What happens if I do?

Isnt there a bracket in front of the cat??

I fitted the same dump to a 33 recently, the only problem i had was the bracket needed to be ground out a bit because it didnt fit around the 3 inch pipe...Was there a bracket on the original pipe, it should come off and you can re-use it..

That was the only problem I had, well that and you need smaller headed bolts on the turbo end, but only the middle two..Apart from that fit perfect...

My HKS front pipe actually came with a new rubber bracket for some reason.

Then you'll have to take it to a shop who know how to replace it for you.

Mine actually came of relatively easily but I did spend several days soaking them in WD40. Also make sure you have heaps of leverage on your ratchet as slow, even torque is better than sudden jolts. No power or air tools here.

No bracket guys, have a look at the photo below from Just Jap website. You can either weld one on (that's what I had done) or try and fabricate something that goes under the bolt(s) between the pipe and the cat.

Yeah dude I bought mine second hand and it doesn't look quite like in the catalogue anymore :/

I wrapped it with some 800C exhaust heat wrap from Autobarn, around $20 for 7.5 metres. That was enough for the front half of the pipe. If I was to do it again I'd start from the middle and work back towards the bellmouth, just so that the edges are not against the air flow when driving (plus water splashes/speed bumps) ... Anyway, here's how it looks now:

Well, the full system is now on the car thanks to a local exhaust joint that did a great job cutting and welding it all to fit!

Here's the specs:

  • Nissan turbo dump pipe gasket
  • JJR Stainless 3" Bellmouth Front/Dump Pipe
  • XForce 3" high flow cat
  • HKS Super Drager cat back with 3" mid and 3.5" rear section, 5" tip (originally for an R33 GTS-t)

It really wasn't a bolt-on job as I kinda gathered already... required mods:

  • Front/dump needed heating up and a slight bend to align correctly, plus a support bracket welded on
  • Midpipe between cat and front muffler was cut off and replaced with a short length of 3" pipe
  • Front flange of midpipe realigned to match cat rear
  • Rear muffler needed hangers modified and a new one added
  • 3.5" four bolt gaskets (on the pipe between front and rear mufflers) are pretty hard to come by so they used exhaust sealant instead

So yeah not really a home job but I'm happy with how it turned out.

The total cost was around $900 (inc. parts & labour for full turbo back) ... but I did spend weeks collecting them bloody parts :P

The system is really quiet on idle as intended but you can finally hear the RB come to life on higher revs! The stock turbo is a bit more audible now too, which is nice.

Thats allright for a full exhaust! Most off the shelf catbacks are getting up there unless they are on special!

Cheers! Yep work up the pipe rather than down, that way you'll get the overlap happening the correct way (opposite to mine in the pic above). The direction probably doesn't really matter in practice though, so perhaps this is something for perfectionists only...

Make sure you wear gloves when wrapping, the heat wrap is ceramic and leaves tiny particles everywhere!

The silver rings are essentially stainless steel cable ties, they came in the heat wrap package.

I know you have already done it and its mint, but do you not have this bracket? (the one myself and Arthur_T3 mentioned)

You can see the bracket on the back of the De-cat pipe, the CLOSEST bolt you can see. The bracket loops over the flange to the other bolt, then bolts to the chassy with a rubber mount. Ill get a proper pic tomorrow for ya seeing as the car will be on the hoist for inspection. :/

If not it must have been taken off and dumped :laugh: Cos you shouldnt have needed to get one welded on. Never mind tho!

Hey mate, I have a niggling feeling the sedan and coupe are different in this regard...

This is the bracket they fabricated, the support elbow above seems to be on the other side than yours??

i hafd a look for heatwrap at ab, and they charge 60 bucks for the same thing, how did u get it for 20?

Dunno, just checked the receipt and it says $19.99. Maybe a discontinued product?

yeah my sedan is the same as the last pic i have to get them to make a bracket and there was one bolt i could not tighten all the way !! i got it in but could not tighten it so 5 out of six isnt bad for now

Which one didn't tighten, one of the four top bolts or one of the two bottom nuts? I've got all 6 in place so it's certainly possible with the JJR front/dump.

I WD40's the bejesus out of mine before pulling them out and then trial tightened the bolts and nuts in fully (without the dump) to make sure they'd go all the way in without problems.

Ah yeah forgot to say, anyone looking to heat wrap their front/dump I'd only recommend it if yours is stainless steel.

The heat wrap catches a fair bit of water when driving in rain and can remain soggy for quite some time. It'll probably make normal steel rust in no time.

I don't have mine heat wrapped, to be honest I didn't notice much of an increase in heat. You can see the pipe is really hot, but I think while you're driving the air blows a lot of that heat away, it doesn't do much to the under bonnet temps.

IF its steel, you could always hi-temp paint it before wrapping. Dont see the point though, its only standing still it gets hot, without airflow.

These have a 12 month warranty, the idea of that is that if it breaks within 12 months you can get it replaced. Yours broke within two weeks, so you still had a little bit of time before the warranty expired.
