Wow, Terry, awesome daily. Begs the question; what does he drive on the weekends? Ha ha fantastic mate!

Seen terry's Evo in person can vouch for clean factor

Thanks fellahs.

Todd has gone to the trouble of sending the steering wheel away to SA to get retrimmed and the driver's seat to be retrimmed locally as you can see.

Nice of him to do that, when the only faults were really smoothness from a bit of wear.

I don't think most importers would do that!

My missile switches x3 cost only $20. One covers the security light - hot!

Thanks fellahs.

Ha missile switches are actually a nice touch.

Out of interest Terry, did you import your own VIII instead of buying locally because of a specific reason like better quality, lower kms or the like, or was it price related? I only ask because I may be looking to buy one in future and haven't considered importing one yet since I don't know a lot about the process and the value compared against local cars etc.

Very nice daily though, very jealous. :)

First, many thanks - and to you as well David.

My estimate of EVO 8s currently being purchased by the consumer is in the ratio of 3x local/1x imported.

I'm in that 25% because I can trust my importers in Iron Chef (Kristian) and JLM (Todd).

Why? They know reputable exporters in Japan + they have men on the ground to inspect before auction. They also have contacts that know of cars being sold on private treaty.

These men reject cars for obvious reasons - and some obscure eg cars from Hokkaido being transported to Honshu auctions to escape the scrutiny for rust. They can tell even after plates are removed, which prefecture the car was registered in.

It's fair enough to say that dodgy importers here often use dodgy exporters in Japan too. Pity about that.

Thanks for the info Terry, I gathered it was due to something that you could only get via a quality importer's trade knowledge vs Aus delivered.

Without wanting to be rude and ask it's value, would you say that importing vs the local market is still reasonably in the same ballpark or does the higher standard of car just demand more money (I could understand if this was the case). ;)

Cheers,

Nick

I'd be lying Nick, if people wanting to import a car weren't concerned about the dollar value of what they've targeted compared to the equivalent of what is available here.

But consider the fact that the all up cost even when complied and registered, the car can still be insured for appreciably much more, because the market value here in Australia of that same product is justifying it.

In other words, if you get a very good import, it should be noticeably less than what you can buy here, and both of the above cars prove that.

Hope this helps...
