nearly losing the car sideways going through a turning lane surrounded by pedestrians and then blaring off down the street wheelspinning, passing cars on a suburban street into oncoming traffic, all the while on his bloody stinking mobile phone.

As much as it would look bad for the club I wish there was a cop there to witness that and impound his car.

i wont be at the next track day.... that was my one major car thingy for the year.... my mortgage, and major bills are the next few things.... plus ive gotta book my car in to get checked out.... hopefully it is just a pcv issue... and not a ring issue

Based on all the DA, G1 rounds (not this nationals event) we have competed in over the past 5 odd years. It is made in comparison to all the other scrutineering we see at tracks we frequent australia wide.

As someone who was not on the Nats committee but will probably be on the next one, if there were specific complaints about scrutineering and what was picked on I would like to hear them. I can not compare this event to drift as I have never done a drift event, just not my scene. But I do know from talking to drifters that scrutineering for those events is done quite differently to sprints so comparing to DA and G1 rounds is pretty difficult. As I wrote, if you know of a specific complaint, I would like to hear it.

My own take on the scrutineering is this. Every new scrutineer you present a car to is a good thing, every one has a different bugbear or pet peeve and so long as it is not something stupid and so long as they are reasonable and suggest things they would like to see changed in future rather than simply knocing you back (Unless it is something unsafe) then it just makes your car batter and safer. An example ofstupid would be one scrute here in Vic who threatened to knock my car back for the type of bonnet pins it had fitted and told me in no uncertain terms that it had to have at least the type I have fitted now next time or he would not pass it again. Who then proceeded to let any number of cars through over a number of years with exactly the type he had threatened me with a knockback over.

I can not really comment on what was done on Sunday as my car was scrutineered and passed while I was in the sign on shed and the only comment was a suggestion for a performance improvement mod (Which I am planning to do anyway) But my car has been past a good number of scrutineers over a couple of years so I was not expecting problems.

its funny i would never go and just cruise our "cruse" spots in Melbourne but Adelaide the night scene Felt alot less violent.

as you say each scrutineer has there own pet thing they look for. I look for perished/old fuel lines and stuffed brake pads and rotors.

I think my only conern with your car was the slight scuffing of the seat belts as they pass around the seat frame (quite sharp), but I made a suggestion that you are aware of it and perhaps do something that makes the edge less sharp.

If any scrutineer makes an unreasonable request, politely ask them to show you in the CAMS manual where it is required, as that is an item you may have inadvetantly missed.

Actually the OH did not tell me about the seat frame bit as I was not at the car when you got to it, I will investigate and if I can not soften the edge I might have to glue some carpet in place to protect the belt. Like I said, new scrutineer, new thing to look at and not a bad thing, no one has commented on it before and the car has been as presented in that area for about five years.

As for unreasonable requests, I have never actually come across a really unreasonable one, just some inconsistency between one person being told "Never again darken my doorway with this on the car" while another one five minutes later is passed without comment like myself and the bonnet pins. It was not a bad thing to change but that scrutineer also insisted on the alloy filler panels in place of my rear seat, where I know as would you that what the CAMS manual states is a "Flame and liquid proof bulkhead" between the cabin and the fuel system. That would be the boot floor on an R31 unless there is a surge tank in the boot, but it was easier to put in the filler panels to shut him up. Now I can move my surge tank and external pump there if I like, or fit a fuel cell in there.

It got to the point where (As I think you noticed with my belts dates wise) that I printed off the page from the CAMS manual stating that for events below international level, belts have a five year life extension past the expiry date printed on the tag. That is still a grey area that I do not much like, to the point that I printed off the new page in the cams manual in case of issues with my favorite scrutineer, along with the one about throttle return springs which changed a few years ago.

Sky084, I had a look at what you were talking about, it is not the seat frame, it is the bolt through the side mount frame into the seat, the other driver of the car is a lot taller than me and when he runs the seat back the belt can contact the head of the bolt. I guess I will have to get something with a rounded head, if that does not work I will have to round the edges on the top of the bolt in the lathe to take away the shaprness, that and maybe move the belt anchor backwards and outwards a bit if I can to get more clearance there.

it seems like that, but adelaide chicks are actually prudes, relative to other states at least. god knows why as the ratio is in our favour.

Assuming I am thinking of the right car it was the pullthrough in the R33 (Not an entrant as far as I am aware) who smoked them up outside the show and shine, followed by blasting off along the Anzac Highway, nearly losing the car sideways going through a turning lane surrounded by pedestrians and then blaring off down the street wheelspinning, passing cars on a suburban street into oncoming traffic, all the while on his bloody stinking mobile phone. And when he lost it the nurk nearly took out my Pathfinder which was parked by the side of the road and next to which I had had my two year old kid a few minutes before when getting something out of it.

I generally keep my language polite on forums so I will not say what I really think, but the colour would be a very deep shade of blue, calling on all the reserves of my RAAF days (Heard the expression "Swears like a trooper?")

Needless to say I am glad that overall we had a great display of what responsible enthusiasts are like over the weekend. I just wish the R33 driver drove a WRX or something instead, anything but tarnishing the image of our chosen wheels.

yeh that guy was f**ked, stocky 33, absolute piece of trash, driver was clearly a complete dud.

sorry to drag up some old posts, but i have a few bits to add. As the owner/driver of "that mx5" let me be the first to agree that yes, it was way to loud. The exhaust on it was put together the night before the event and i hadnt intended it to be quite that loud and it'll be getting changed before the next event. Lets not pretend though that it would've been the only car at the event that would have been sidelined had the noise rule have been properly enforced.

Secondly, Nugz; josh tried to give you some constructive advice about driving at trackdays, having also seen the "train" of cars that was behind you at some stages of the day, as well as being behind you myself, im going to agree with josh completely, you seemed to be completely oblivious to anybody behind you which was both rude and dangerous at times. Just something to keep in mind mate.

Having said that, i also experienced a bit of trouble with some of the guys driving in the "super fast" group. Being in a car that was dramaticaly slower than those guys, i was constantly watching the mirrors and getting out the way as soon as i saw one come near me. However, for whatever reason, on several occasions some of these guys chose to overtake in dangerouse places and come past so close that our cars were nearly touching mirrors. I realise there's going to be issues when cars that run 1:1* lap times are sharing the track with cars that do 1:3* lap times, but my point is that a little bit of mutual respect and common sense is required from all involved. To add to this, im pretty sure this basic track etiquet (sp?) was covered in the drivers breifing.

Now im not nocking your car, its not my taste, but hey thats why its your car and not mine, but to start flaring up at people and giving them a hard time for driving "some bloody toyota" is not on man. If we all drove the same cars, trackdays would be boring. I personaly had some great battles with a black non turbo r34, it was a very close match up. Check the photo galleries from prevcious skynats, there's pleanty of other makes/models other than skylines. Both josh and myself are fully paid up SAU SA members, and have been coming to club events for many years, so to start discriminating against us based on what we drive is both childish and just plain stupid.

I had a great day and i think the event went pretty well. I have to say though i was hugely disapointed by a group of individuals who stood behind my car while i was trying to reverse out of where i was parked in the pits, and then preceded to tell me to "leave it at home next time d***head". Pretty much the only sour note for me in an other wise good day at the track. Keep up the good pics guys, see you in october!

Agree with everything u said, however if someones giving his car shit, he has every right to respond the way he did. Its nice that you've paid up and become constructive members, but remember this is a skylines website, it'd be like me going on the WRX owners website and giving some guys car shit - which is simply uncalled for. The regulars here piped up @ that comment because quite honestly, there are loads of r31 fans and I find it amusing that my impeccable taste in r31's is questioned :whistling:

I however can't see how you're being 'discriminated' against, considering you were at the event and all that. People have simply been making observations at this stage...

    • Hey lads, reviving an old thread.  As an update, since the last time replied to this thread, ive done mostly suspension. Havent touched the motor except for maintenance. Though upon changing spark plugs, found out i had splitfires pre-installed! Updates: - Got me some stock airbox top cover and snorkel to fit onto the original intake. Should be free of defects - Bought a set of R34 GT-T brakes (not installed yet, going to rebuild + respray in champion blue + white 'Nissan' text) - Bought the last set of bilsteins from @Sydneykid and had them installed. Has been making some sounds on the rear but hopefully should be sorted out after this New Year break. - Regreased front caster rod bushings (poly bushes..) - Rear upper camber arms - Whiteline sway bars (BNF27Z 22mm + BNR11XXZ 24mm).  The rear sway bars are a bit short (ive read 50mm else where) but was still able to get them in.  Anyhows, I reckon suspension is sorted now. Maybe replace bushes (do have a set of front upper control arms from SK not installed yet) but should be okay for now. From now, I'm wanting to start working on the motor, drivetrain etc etc. Still debating on the order to go on and what to buy etc but: - ECU ( Haltech or Link ( Link states that it dont support A/T or AWD functions... Can anyone attest to this? ) - Highflow turbo ( ATR43ss2 ) - Intercooler ( Not decided yet, but cant find many good afoordable ones. Toshi says to opt for crossflow Japanese. Bit difficult this one, unless I get a returnflow Blitz from JJ? ) - Injectors ( Any recommendations ? I do have a nismo FPR ( Thanks SK ) ) - Seats - Tune by either Toshi or DVS To be fair, I did consider just keeping the stock turbo and nistuning it. Sat in a mates stock N, that had something like 200kw, and I reckon that felt more than enough. Maybe I should just go this route ahhaha. Too many choices.... Planning a trip down south, so wanting to just clean things up and make sure it gets to and from in one piece. Anything else specifically I should do before ? Cheers lads  
    • Must be for the car’s lucky charm 🤷🏽‍♂️ She runs fine, but it just seems to take about 1L less. Maybe I’ll have the oil sump dropped at some point to check if there is anything 
    • Hmmm interesting. Mine is the exact same and clearly the right one.  The mystery of the engine oil being full after 3.5-4L continues
