Got my V36 delivered from NSW to WA and had to bring it to the pits prior to registration (already has a compliance plate), the inspection failed on two items.

1. All rims and tyres to comply to RAWS approval documents

Currently car has the stock 19s, that come with the 2007 SP 370GT

On the RAWs document it says to fit placard V36-TP01 and Fit 4 new tyres listed on the tyre placard. On the placard it says 245/45 R18s.

2. Modify headlamp assemblies to accept H1 globes.

The PITS said you cant have HIDS without autowashers, I cant really see if they are HID or H1s (any easy way to check?)

My questions are

1. In order for the compliance plate to be placed on the car originally wouldn't all this already have to be done? ie the HIDs been converted to H1s.

2. Why would the RAWs document say 18s and not 19s as the stock is 19s in Japan?

Thanks

To pass compliance the car must be absolutely stock.

1)I would go back to the person who Complied your car and ask them to cover the cost of rectifying the things you have been failed on because this is what you already paid them to do. They would be fully aware of these requirements and have for some reason not completed the job. The part that is less palatable is that on the Compliance document for your car that has been submitted to get the Pink sticker, it will say all these things have been done..

2) You said your car is a V36 and the wheels are from a V37. This sounds like to me the problem.

HID's: As I read the rules on these it is Auto levelling or autowashers. If your car does not have either of these features you will need to get the lights changed

Good luck

Cheers

Andy

Thanks for the reply, mines a V36? Whats the difference between a V36 and V37?

370GT coupe (DBA-CKV36)

Introduced in 2007 for the 2008 model year, it is a Japanese version of the Infiniti G37 coupe.

18-inch wheels are used on the base and 370GT Type P cars, while Type S and Type SP cars include 19-inch wheels.

ok, the compliance shop f**ked up then.

1. they put down the wrong details regarding your wheel size. you are correct. v36 type sp coupe have 19s on them as stock. they have mucked your paperwork and put on the wrong placard.

2. part of compliance requires you to change the hid to halogens. the compliance shop obviously didn't do that.

the compliance shop has mucked up on both accounts. fail. you should get them to rectify. it's not hard to do it yourself, but since you paid good money for it, you shouldn't have to.

Sorry, my mistake.

But at the end of the day your compliance workshop appears to have made the erroros and needs to get them corrected for you.

Dont think I can bring it and start fresh again since the report is stated "Attempt 1" but hopefully ************* can sort it out.

Heres some pics, third pic shows the placard the original jap ones stating 19 and the Australian Compliance placard showing 18s.

Another thing I dont understand is why is it 245/45 all round ie front and back since the OEM is a staggered setup.

Have a read of this LINK as I actually used your problem as an example when it comes to what happens with interstate cars not complied correctly as DPI know what to look for these days.

Going off the Tyre Packard they might not have evidence for 19" rims which can be an issue as DPI can look on DOTARS web site (I can as well) as to all the info submitted by the workshop.

For the HID's workshops just don't do them to save money, they might just think it is your problem now as they are on the other side of the country.

I can help you sort the HID issue and make sure it will be at no cost to you so PM me your details, with the rims that might be an easy fix.

You can't buy the 225 X 40 X 19 tyres in Australia. When mine was complied they put 245 x 45 X 19 front and rear and changed the placard to suit. This was a crapy paper label that I peeled off again. I will import my own 225 X 40 X 19 tyres from the USA. First thing that the workshop did after mine got compliance was put the Bi-xenon head lights back in the car.

Thanks makes sense, wonder how my dealer is going to sort this out since they are in NSW... Hopefully the pits arent anal about the actual wheel specs ie x/x/19 as long as they are 19s

I don't know what they are smoking as they were telling you a story, the Kumho ECSTA SPT KU31 comes is 225/40 R19 93Y and 245/45 R19 102Y and is in stock around Australia. They must of meant you cant get second hand ones as that is the norm these days. You also cant just laminate a piece of A4 paper with a tyre placard printed on it and say off you go.

DOTARS actually visits DPI over here and shows them what to look for, as I said before RAWS cars especially from interstate are now being flagged in WA.

These guys were not smoking. Looking at the plate in the pic above the stock size is 225 X 45 X 19 for the front and you can not buy these in Australia. You are correct you can buy 225 X 40 X 19 from Kuhmo.

My car has 245 X 40 X 19 front and rear as a result.

The post above where I mentioned 225 45 19 and 245 40 19 is a typo.

Just adding my two cents... I don't believe it's the size of the tyres, but the load rating. Coupes may be different but the sedan requires a minimum load rating of 95 or 96. The fore mentioned kumhos do not have the required load rating (nor does any other tyre in oz) so they have to go with a different size.

    • Have you put an aftermarket oil pressure gauge on and verified your oil pressure?   Noise being on the block, on exhaust side, how high up the block does it seem to be? It could be the VCT system getting cranky, especially if it's mainly at idle, and when warm, as that'll be your lowest point for oil pressure. Could be showing that oil passages / VCT solenoid are blocking.
    • Well, hydraulic lifters will get noisy if they are dirty/fouled in some way, and exactly how that manifests will depend on exactly what schmutz is where. There is a procedure on here somewhere for dismantling and soaking/cleaning them. Replacing them with new is about 50% of the work and about 5% of the money!
    • Thanks for the reply @GTSBoy this is is a hydraulic lifter engine. Yea right i did not realise the lifters were supposed to be compressible while installed. I could push them down but i had to lean almost my while body weight on them.  I have never heard of a lifter/ lifters ticking only at hot idle and getting worse the hotter it gets. I have owned a few jdm cars with noisy lifters. This noise is slightly more subtle, it is more of a sharp gentle metalic tic than the solid and more loud tapping I've heard on lifters. I have used a metal rod, alloy tube, hose and stethoscope and could not find the source of the tick. But it appears to be loudest on the actual engine block behind the exhaust cam gear and next to the oil filter. I had mate (40 year old mechanic) go over it with me and he couldn't find it either..  Could it be a cam seal issue of some sort?  Cheers
    • This seems problematic and unlikely at the same time. Vanilla RB2Xs have hydraulic lifters. They do have "zero" clearance, but only when running with oil pressure inside them. When not running, you should be able to compress them and obtain heaps of clearance. RB26s and Neos have solid lifters. They should have ~0.3mm and ~0.5mm on the inlet and exhaust respectively. If they have zero clearance then bad things are happening. With nothing else being wrong, it would mean that the valves would be held slightly (ever so slightly) open when they are supposed to be closed and it should have all sorts of problems when running, caused by leakage in/out through the valves. Or, zero clearance can indicate severe valve seat recession. None of it is good. Have you used a piece of hose as a stethoscope to try to localise the noise?
