The instrument cluster has the tacho all over the place from zero to 9000, the speedo and odometer sometimes work, usually when i hit around 80 90km/hr and I press the reset ,of the odometer.

The cluster was replaced by a mechanic but it gave similar results with the speedo showing in accurate speeds and the tacho not working so I had the originsal put back.

The mechanic then thought the cluster was probably ok but narroweed the problem to another aspect of the car ( cant recall if it was near the transmission or not but he was referring to some particulr part). I was short of time and am now in a different state sio cant follow through .

What might be th e problem.

My reason fro posting is that it seems to be getting worse

I have a very similar problem on my 93 R33 Series 1. My odo and rev gauge work intermittently ( i have to tap/hit the dash to make them work). I'm thinking it's a loose connection behind the instrument cluster??? What do you all think? And is it just those two screws holding the cluster on?

if it's set up like the GTR, you have to unscrew the upper screws and take that piece off. pull the dash fascia off and undo the lower two screws to remove the lower piece of moulding, then there are two screws hold on the speedo. The connection is 99% likely not to be loose. they click into place and need plenty pull to undo them.

The problem I doubt very much is not in the cluster as it was replaced as mentioned but still had problems, so

The original cluster was put back.

just returned from a 1000k trip and at highway speed the speedo and odometer are fine but tacho is noy wherer it should be . At low speeds usually nothing works.

if it isn't the cluster what are my options?
