Ah well. If you do have cash left over, an SSD is awesome for your OS and key applications if you have $$ left over. I got one for my gaming rig since I didn't have enough for an upgrade and holy moly!

Ye SSD is on the cards, as is a i7 upgrade for the gaming box

cost? More than your server for the space you need unless you want to swap a bunch of tapes every time you backup or restore.

Well you could go dual drive LTO3/4 or LTO5.

LTO5 single $1800+ drive $130+ per tape - 3TB

LTO4 single $1200+ drive $45+ per tape - 1.6TB

LTO3 single $1300+ (wierd) drive $30+ per tape - 800GB

Prices from staticice, obviously you'd be looking for second hand drives and tapes. LTO5 is brand new so good luck with that.

Those sizes are compressed, not raw.

You won't get much compression on MKV files from what I've found.

Unless these tape drives have some funky compression that winrar/winzip don't have on "max"
