I was there but didn't see your name on the sheet so trying to match forum name with real name.

Here I am.

Femino's purple GTR had something go wrong with the engine so he drove my car for the rest of the day.

Hope the problem isn't serious.

Hi Duncan... I mean Ross! You looked so uber keen & excited in your cheater car, seems like 4 years was waaaaay too long :)

lol...YEAH i was UBER excited for 2 reasons.... It was my first DECA in like 4 years....and my first driving the EMO Team Cheater Car.

Had an absolute BALL!!

Will be up in November for sure!

Well after a very bumpy ride home I thought perhaps the vibrations were a little bit more than a flat spot in the tyre. So I went the mechanics, he took one look at them and pointed out spots on every single tyre where I'd worn them out beyond the indicator. Apparently they're so severe that I have to pretty much bin them.

So... anyone know some decent cheaper tyres than KU36's which I can run until I learn how to (and more importantly, when to) brake correctly?

Wow, no abs?

You must be braking hard and for a long time when they lock up, I locked mine a couple times here and there and didn't flat spot them =\

This is why I got second hand stuffed semis for learning.Maybe get some track rims and some second hand semis from Donnellans (spelling?) until you get the hang of braking control etc.

I got my learner semis for $250 for the whole set delivered from Melb to Albury.

Sooo.... who's gonna put their hands up to corrupt me in November? Lukes just told me he's working at Sandown so will have to miss DECA, but I'll be there - and its my birthday :D Shall make up for the not drinking this time lol

I didn't think I locked up for too long either, but like you were saying at the hotel. Big, heavy car = more wear and tear.

You're not going to get a half decent tyre for cheaper than KU's.

The back track at DECA is very abrasive if you lock up. I've flatspotted RE55's there, and Dean in the S14 flat spotted his RE's on Saturday too. You just need to ease it on a bit more there, and give yourself more time to stop.

Yeah that's where it happened, came around the sweeper (on the long wang) and braked too late going into the chicane. Worst part is I still hit the cone! I should've kept the power and on and just blasted through them, would've been cheaper and gotten me a better time :bunny:

Maybe I'll take Dan's advice and get some half dead semis. Chuck them on the Advans and leave the stockies for daily driving.

Wrong...just learn a bit if finesse when it comes to braking...rough stabbing movements are always detrimental to good times...look at any good driver...its all about smooth movements...

And before this goes on...lets not turn this thread into another heel toe fiasco like the last deca thread...

Bring on more pics, vids and the results!!

    • Latest round of updates on the car. I purchased and installed a SWS clutch slipper to help with 60ft times and got some second-hand good condition 275/40R17 Hoosier DR2 radials. Test and tune in November showed the tyres were an upgrade over my over 15 year old mickey Thompson's and I got a 1.8 second 60ft and pb et of 11.71 but even then, that run wasn't great due to rain and driver error (the event got called off 10 minutes later fast forward to the weekend just gone 25th of Jan and there was finally a break in the weather to let racing happen. The first run the track was slippery and only managed a 12.1@129 Second run the track was better and got a new pb et and mph: 11.54@131   Lith and I then worked out that I installed the previously mentioned clutch slipper incorrectly and its never been working, and I had just been dumping the clutch the entire time, we also noticed it was on street boost and not race boost. So I lined up for a third run with the car turned up in the first two gears, but the passengers side axle objected to clutch dumps and left the chat which stopped my weekend.   so there will be another attempt in the future once I replace the tyres as they rubbed and are stuffed now. but a low 11 should be on the cards.
    • Ceramic coating and heat shielding, you mean?
    • Turbos don't require pulling the motor apart so that's "easier". I would recommend the Nismo R3 turbos instead if you want to do stock twin turbo. It doesn't make as much power as the 2530s but it's only like ~50 whp off the mark and should have better response (ball bearing CHRA, slightly smaller turbo). A local that went with a Garrett G30 and 6boost manifold recently nearly burned his car to the ground after the hood insulator started melting and and burning so if you go single turbo I recommend doing a lot of research and validation work to make sure you don't do the same.
    • New rear lights, filler panel sprayed, cleaned and back together    before, during, after shots 😍
    • 100% is gyprock, I agree. Slip of the keyboard. Haha! I left my indicator bulbs out to save a bit of weight.
