Dorigecko
Fooling around on the weekend, and had to drop the inexistant fluid from the RB20DET gearbox (had already been dropped previously). Went to undo the 1/2" drain-plug at the bottom of the gearbox, and a little bit of thick sludge came off with the plug. In that sludge, was this part: It's a roll pin. i can't remember the dimensions of it, and I don't have the part with me atm. I have NO CLUE where they go as I've never had a box apart. Anyone shed some light on this thing i.e. if we drive without the roll pin will it explode? The Dan
It depends on where in the box it came from. There are 3 or 4 of them in an RB20 box. If it's from the selector rods and you change gears fast enough, you could select 2 gears at once. Yes it will explode if that happens. If it's from the back end of the box like the main shift rod, then it will just make the shifter really sloppy. They are used to locate the selector arms onto the selector rods and the shifter link onto the main shifter rod. Try taking the shifter housing off (where the shifter goes in) and see if the roll pin is still bashed through the rod. If it is still there, then the one you have is one of the bad ones Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/333067-bits-and-shit/#findComment-5400564 Share on other sites
Duncan
yeah....I don't know where a roll pin is used in the 2wd box (there is one in the shift linkage in the gtr box). But you should probably assume it is meant to hold some critical part that spins at 8000rpm in place..... drop and replace or rebuild that box. Dorigecko
Lucky we found it then, I guess. Hmm. Spent like three straight days going from rolling 20e auto shell to turning-over 25de manual. methinks some dirty f**ker wanted us to fail horribly no matter what. Thanks guys. Will have to rip out the box and find where it goes. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/333067-bits-and-shit/#findComment-5400593 Share on other sites
