hi guys

basically looking at doing an engine conversion, getting rid of the rb20det and installing a rb25det.

i live in nsw, just wondering does anyone know the legalities of putting in this engine......some shops have informed me i dont need a certificate (engineers) others say i do.

while im doing this conversion im looking at upgrading the turbo, injectors and computer before the engine is dropped in, this obviously means that an engineer will have to take all this into account, or should i leave the 25 standard to get it passed.

looking at a budget of around $8k including upgrades to achieve around 250rwkw, does this sound ok??

thanks

mick

Get it running well, past inspection see how much cash you have left over and then go for gold with your mod's I've always liked the idea of this conversion :bunny: goodluck with it dude, let us know how you get on.

It's a legal engine drop in, no engineer should be required.

The RB25 was available in the R32, hence as VSI06 states:

Examples of minor (owner certified) modifications are:

* Engine changes where the capacity increase is less than 15% above the maximum size engine available for the

vehicle (providing no major structural modifications are necessary and where noise and/or exhaust emission

ADRs apply, all standard equipment such as carburettors, exhaust systems, exhaust gas recirculating valves,

oxygen sensors and catalytic convertors relating to noise and emission control are retained and operate

correctly).

The rb25de was offered for the 32 not the rb25det. Best to check with the nsw equivalent of vicroads.

also your going to have to modify the gearbox crossmember & tailshaft, so that would be structural in my book

I've done this conversion and it's well worth it - the 25 craps on the 20 for a streeter.

Mine cost me $4k drive in drive out, I just got it passed the engineer as standard then put the ecu etc in.
