G'day people,

Im moving to Canberra next week from NSW and i want to know what the process is to get my car registered in ACT. What is the inspection process like and what do they look for. Also looking for suggestions for places to take my car for the inspection.

Thanks heaps

Here is the first thing to read:

http://www.rego.act.gov.au/licensing/licencemoveact.htm

The inspection process isn't usually too painful... I've taken 2 Skylines over with no dramas (however, others have had different outcomes :bunny:) .... all depends, what's the car? is it modified?

If you're talking about a normal, unmodified car, it will just be all the normal basic stuff. Tyres, lights, brakes etc

Thanks Shell, Its a 91 nx coupe hasn't had work done on it really, just getting old, few small oil leaks and runs a bit rough. Im trying to organise a new car not long after I move. Looking at a 34 gtt. :P so hopefuly i won't have to re register it.

You can get your ACT licence and drive around in a NSW car.... you have 3 months to change the rego over so if you get asked, say you just moved here and haven't gotten around to it yet. Which is the truth! And as Troy said you can get away with longer than 3 months lol

If anybody asked me (which no1 did, well at least no1 I wouldn't just say "fk that couldn't be arsed" to) I would have told them it came with a munted gearbox, which I am getting fixed before I try to get it registered.

clutch out in idle, hear that sound officer? That's the input bearing. Drivable, but can't put load on it (remotely true, lol)

Just "give it a problem" that still leaves it roadworthy. Say there's an issue with the lifters, or you've heard an intermittent sound coming from the diff or something.

But yeah, I never had any hassles. Just don't attract any attention to yourself during this period.
