melbourne?

SAUQLD meets SAUVIC

....just sayin'

yep most of these guys would not attend though. distance seems to be the thing. I remember hearing rumors about distance being the issue by some of the people in SCC09.

that said I was involved in a byron run years ago where some of the sydney people drove up to meet us , watched the sun come up and them left for home.

my ideas of a run for this would be:

(west) ipswich meet up ->gatton->clifton->toowoomba->crows nest->esk.

(south) staplyton meetup->byron bay (old hwy)->lismore->kyogle->rathdowney.

those are two that I have done in the past. I know of a variance I can do onthe last one.

agree there. though if you are using that fuel would that not make the car a track only car. it would certainly be a bitch to drive around looking for fuel.

great thinking buddy :)

epic drive would be epic - however realisticly, such a cruise would be so so so much more fun in a small group of say 15cars max

also i just came up from melb, and the roads thru lismore are f**kkkkked - crazy road works :)

+1

split it into two/three groups 20min-30min apart with two way radios in each group and it would work. there are 100 of us and I see that working. the last byron run there were 35 of us. its doable with some logistics involved. both the runs I mentioned have fair sized parks in them.

That Byron run was also at 3am so we had the roads virtually to ourselves. In the daytime, traffic can make it difficult to keep a larger group together, and large, relatively slow-moving groups can annoy other drivers.

I like the options Chris posted up though, particularly the one to the west. A cruise that doesn't just go up or down the coast would be fantastic, although some people moan about going inland for some reason, or if it doesn't start and finish at their front door (we bought our cars to enjoy them, did we not?). There are some fantastic roads out to the west of us, and some lovely scenery, and there are some bonuses to going to a less populated area too. Parking, less traffic to break the group up etc. There are also a few dams out that way which make nice places to stop off.

As another example, Karen and I went for a drive a little while ago, home (northside) - Brisbane - Ipswich - T'ba - Dalby - Bunya Mtns - Kingaroy - Nanango - Blackbutt - Kilcoy - Caboolture - home, it'd need some tweaking for a large group and would probably need to be shortened but it's a nice run.

In any case... I'm keen to see what the exec come up with!

marc,

true. there were a lot of us that were all playing by the rules as well and we did kick off the excess stragler or two.

I can add a lot more to that esp the one you listed.

as a variance on the one via kyogle - head out via nimbin -> Mw'bah back up via natural arch and up the freeway. that will give people MORE than their fair share of twisties. given I did that exact run in a fully laden van at a reasonable speed it was not that bad. it would not be one for the *track* cars with special needs but the weekender or daily drvier - yep!

again logistics would need to be applied to it and there would have to be an exec in each group with a 2way and a phone. I'd be up for a spot (helping to run it) as well.

another (two day affair) would be to Coffs ->dorrigo->armidale->stanthorpe (eat at Annas restuarant - wicked italian food!) then home to BNE. that once is scenery, twisties more scenery and great food before the trip home.

that would require a LOT of logistics to pull of 50+ cars but again doable.

some of the ones I did years ago were 40 or so cars and they went reasonably ok.

execs - feel free to get in contact with me :P

andy,

that could be a via point you know :geek:

I know, but we have enough trouble getting people to go that far, and while a long cruise with a smaller numbers would be awesome the idea of this cruise is to get money for the charity so we need to appeal to as many people as possible.

Down for a longer cruise some other time just 'cause though

I cruise these roads regularly and the chances of getting the masses to punt those kays is slim to none.

Most of them whinge if they have to leave their own burb.

f**k the masses :P

But being serious for a second. Why not run more cruises? It would be great if we could get a monthly or atleast quarterly cruise going. Some decent kms with a nice destination. More kms eliminates most of the riff raff who just want to get out and fully sick single peggers infront of everyone. Plus it would make the charity cruise a bit more of a special occasion.

Some of us already do. Its too much to ask the club to be your weekly/monthly cruise booking agent.

organise it among yourselves as we do and at least that way you get those you want and no randoms doin above mentioned single peggers.

Well, us bunch of ice cream hard parkers do that. But we've seen that lots of people just don't turn up unless it's an "official" meet. Or we get the problem of: They get there, see we're not hektik tokyo drifters, and go back to Harry's. Which, is of course good, because we don't want Harry's people there anyway, but the others who'd come along to check out an "official" cruise just don't turn up for the little stuff (probably because they think the Harry's crowd are turning up) :P

    • So we have most the interior back in, and for the first time with one OEM speaker hooked up. The 31 is running, driving and now tunes!!! Hahaha yet another step for the sub that sat 10m under for two weeks!!! unbelievable really 👌 lots of love work and not giving up on her. Seen so many youngsters part way less, and in way better condition. I’m stubborn, thinking another problem is just a hurdle to overcome, One at a time. IMG_9277.mov
    • That is correct. I'm using a modified ABS ring and a ZF speed sensor on my rear diff for speed input. I'm running a Haltech ecu.
    • Been busy with the newborn. We originally thought we were going to go for a third, but we're good with two lol. He's starting to actually sleep now so I've had some energy to work on the car. It's been parked away in the garage since late November due to winter.  I went ahead and redid all my head oil drains. I originally had my front and rear head drain going into the same pipe but have since split them up. I also added an Ethanol content sensor to get ready to run E85 this summer. Tossed it on my return line. Sensor sits nicely under my intake manifold.    I also have a lot of parts that came in for my rear end. I'll be swapping over to a 3.3 final drive and doing the GK teck anti squat mod. While the rear subframe is off, I'll also change every bushing. We're planning on buying another house soon with the condition that I get at a minimum a 2 door garage, so I'll wait to have more room for this. Now onto the strange things that recently happened... After changing the lower rad hose (It had been sitting in my cabinet for well over a year and was the last hose I had to replace), I let the car idle in the garage to bleed my coolant. After running for a few minutes, it started missing. Got much worst within a minute or two and then stalled and would not restart. My crank sensor decided to crap itself. No damage, no explanation, just died. I went ahead and replaced it with another ZF sensor but the heavier duty stainless model with a shield. Tossed that in and started right up. Has anyone else seen this? I hate when things fail without cause. Luckily this was a blessing in disguise... This lead me to recheck my timing. It seems I may have had a beer or two the last time I had set my TDC angle as I was off exactly 5 degrees... I miscounted a line haha. I was running 5 degrees less then commanded. It's a little embarrassing but helps explain why my dyno operator seemed to think I should be making more then 478rwkws.
    • Sharing results from recent Liberty Walk R35 GTR, since they are still considered as somesort of a V36 Skyline. We do them turbos too. This are high flowed SS-1 models with ball bearing conversion done.  Car have managed to pull 485awkws @ 20Psi so far pushing limitations of factory built engine. The build list for R35 GTR enthusiasts as follow : HyperGear high flowed stock turbos in SS1 (G25-660 specs) Custom titanium intake pipes. Vspec performance titanium front pipes. Greddy bovs. Top-secret coolant reservoir. Emtron ecu. Straight E85. Built gear box.
    • Nah no bearings, just slip fit.  Would be a reasonably challenging but not impossible job to modify it to run bearings but I'm hoping that's not necessary as I may have well built one myself if I end up spending hours modifying it!
