Hi all

I spilt a 500ml bottle of milk in my car on the back seat, the damn lid came off when I was driving and I didn't notice. It pretty much all soaked through I could only get the little bit that was sitting as a puddle at the bottom....

What should I do it hasn't stained but I am scared to get in my car tonight because will it smell like curdled milk??

OMG, that same thing happend in my mums old car, the seats were steam cleaned etc... we never could get the smell out, i think it soaks into the foam then your stuffed....

good luck with it, tell us how u go, have u tried some of that stuff that removes smells from fabrics?

i think its called fabreese or something?

If you can, I'd take out the whole back seat, soak it with a hose (and any detergents you wish to use, Pine-O-Clean?) for 10-15 minutes, let it dry for a few days and put it back.

I had a half-empty 600mL "Strong IC" bottle that hid itself away in the back of my old Patrol. Was hidden for a good two months before we had a nice hot day... then the heat (and fermenting) built up pressure and made it explode. Threw up about six times in the remaining 10km trip home :D. Luckily the seats and floor is all vinyl - I just hit it with the high-pressure water sprayer for a good half hour.

buy a cat....

I agree with the above, take the seats out, hose them, then hit em with Meguires upholstry cleaner - managed to get my sons puke smell out of the car after a 2 hour drive during which it soaked in:) And one of those really strong Jap car deodorants too, they will cover anything and last forever.

You think milk is bad - check this,

About a month ago I was driving my gf home after the work xmas party - she had also been out to lunch the same day and evidently eaten some dodgy food.

Driving along, me: you OK?

Yeah, my stomach just feels a bit funny. Not the driving is it?

No, no it's alright.

okay (me looking across nervously), do you want me to stop?

No, it's okay

....

.... 10 seconds pass

....

Her: pull over,pull over!

I pull over, just stopped.....

Her with hands over her mouth, bleurgh...................

Vomit cupped in her hands, hands not big enough, down her front and pooling on the seat. F*ckin gross. Got her home, straight in with paper towels, rags, pinocleen, then the next day I cleaned it with one of those little personal steam cleaners and upholstery cleaner. Then sprayed the crap out of it with that orange meguiars stuff. All good now - no stink.

So I think you should throw everything at it, steam cleaner was from crazy clarks for $30.

I didn't break up with her - probably should have though, didn't even get sh*tty with her at the time, just got in trouble for laughing!

i found this in the r31 Skyline Manual. its alot better than what the Ford and holden manuals were.

lol i hope its not too confusing

OR you could just take your seat out and soak it

I did something similiar in my dads old car.

I went to the butcher and bought a whole bunch of meat and left it in the back seat. Just before i got home my mobile rang so when i parked at home i got out while still on the phone and forgot about the meat in the back of the car. It was a 30+degree day and the car was out in the sun for about 8 hours before my mum went to make dinner and asked me where the meat was. I remembered and ran to the car to get it out but it was 2 late. As i opened the car door the smell was just disgusting, the meat was all purple and black and the plastic bag the meat was wrapped in was like melted to the car seat. Even 6 months after that u could still get a slight smell of rotten meat in the back of the car if u left it locked up for more than 1 day.

Thanks for all the feedback...

I got it professionally steam cleaned today the guy spent about 2 hours on it! He sprayed it with a whole load of odur remover stuff...

I will let you know how it smells when I get home tonight!

My mum was home when it was getting done and she said he fell in love with my car when he saw it and then she caught him in the drivers seat pretending to drive it!!!!

You sure that's milk in the back seat young fella?

:whackit:

Take it to a detailer that does steam cleaning! They will also chuck some deodorant on for you as well eh?

I wouldn't try doing it yourself, might leave a shity stain behind.

Show your line some love, take it to the doctor!

To late, should have read the the last post I spose! meh! fuggit!

    • I should video mine, will prob do it tomorrow    Between 1st and 3rd, you could fit another two gears. That is how loose and wobbly it is   horrible:(
    • Throws on the FS5R30A in most Nissans of this era are actually quite short and direct compared to any remotely modern BMW with the S6-53 transmission. Those things have throws a mile long with rubbery vague everything. Synchro issues combined with a short shifter is just going to break everything even faster.
    • Only thing I'd add...is on recommendation from a good diff shop, I've used mineral oil in my diff including the race car for years. The synthetics can be too slippery and glaze the gears
    • 75W90 GL5 is fine. If you aren't sure about the type get one with LSD additive.
    • Because you're effectively rushing the shift and forcing it to go in - with greater leverage against parts that don't _want_ to go together. Short shift = forcing the gear in harder. Also Redline Heavy Shockproof actively says not to use it in anything with Synchros. Well, it says "not recommended" which is basically as far as anyone will ever say in a product statement to "Do not use" Generally the Redline makes the gearbox feel great... until it fails faster. https://www.redlineoil.com/heavy-shockproof
