Hey guys

There's a couple of things that I have always wanted to do to my car exterior wise dating back a couple of years now but never got around to doing it, didn't have the spare cash, wasn't sure how possible it would be or just generally couldn't be f**ked doing it. I however wanted to do the whole thing at the same time which made it hard to achieve.

Anyway long story short, one of those things I have been thinking about is wanting the SII Foglight/Indicator surround in carbon fibre to break up the factory front bumper a bit. I really like the SII front but unfortunately since obviously every SII has one they look a bit "normal". I'm always keen on ideas to make the car look a little unique but not something over the top. I also love carbon fibre so this is where the combination took place.

I know of a manufacturer or two that may be keen on making them in carbon fibre, but the cost of making the mould and the actual parts would be quite a bit, therefore a larger quantity would have to be ordered to make it worthwhile in price for me/us and to the manufacturer's time.

My main question is, if I organised the whole thing, would people be interested in getting in on a group buy for carbon fibre Series II Foglight/Indicator surrounds? I have no idea on pricing as of yet or the quanitity that would be needed, but if there is a bit of interest I will find out! Obviously the more quanitity ordered, the cheaper the price. If there is no interest than I'll probably have to scrap the idea.

So here is a quick dodgy Paint edit of what it might look like (If you make fun of my paint skills i'll kill you!). Note I have a couple of things edited on my car including shaved side indicators and front clear indicators. This is what I would want to do to mine at the same time.

Anyway give me some feedback/interest whether you think you might be interested in purchasing something like this, if you think it looks horrible or any general input.

PS: If these are all ready available somewhere let me know because I've never seen them and I looked everywhere! In which case this whole thread is pointless >_<

Cheers guys

Phil

If it would be a full replacement and not just a cover I would be interested depending on cost of course...

Yep it would be a full replacement of the stock one. Unmount the old one (6 screws from memory) and mount the new one >_<

It reminds me of a kind of FG FPV look:

Well I sent off an email to one of the manufacturers so I'll see what they say. Maybe if I could get a buy price on say 5, i'm sure it wouldn't be that difficult to get four other people keen.

I was actually thinking of doing something similar (that being painting them black) but never got around to it. Now that I think about it, I’m unsure if doing this would look right on a silver S2 but on white I think it would look good.

They'd suit your car a lot! Wouldnt suit my car as much, but if you ever get the glass indicators made up, I'll definately be in! That and the shaven indicators is something ive wanted to for a while

+1 for glass indicators, but what I really want is glass headlights.

Guys PSI Parts said they could look into it for us. We would need around 10 people to get it going and costs would probably be around the $100 mark which I think is a good price. Considering than you could sell your factory ones to some one for say $20-$30 it would be a fairly cheap unique upgrade I think.

Including me there is 4-5 people in here that were interested and i'm sure if I wrote up a proper group buy thread where more people will see it (plus ask a couple of mates) I don't think another 5 people would be hard to get.

I'll keep you updated if there is any progress.

Awesome, doesn't seem like getting 10 ppl will be hard. I will organise it with PSI parts to see if we can get a mould made and begin production a bit down the track. I'll do up a group buy thread once it is available and post the link in here so just keep an eye out :P

but what I really want is glass headlights.

Check out the group buy thread :P

Lol yeah it's just the plastic surround, not the whole thing, sorry man :(

I'm currently in the process of doing up the clear glass indicators, I might chuck up a new thread to get some input/help. I think it is do-able but damn tricky.

carbon housings not totally sold. but for $100 id grab a set just too see.

    • Among other things yes. Making sure to either use an oil pressure regulator or the right restrictor size for your oil pump/range of oil viscosities you intend to run, making sure you plumb the lines correctly, turbo should be placed such that it siphons properly even when the water pump isn't turning so you don't boil coolant in the turbo after shutdown, oil return should be low resistance and also preferably picking the one that is most likely to return to the pickup as opposed to some other irrelevant part of the pan. It's far from impossible to figure this out but I have seen people really, really struggle and if that's the case it's easier to just take the path of least resistance. To me, bolt-on twin turbos are a fixed cost whereas single turbo is almost unbounded.
    • Latest round of updates on the car. I purchased and installed a SWS clutch slipper to help with 60ft times and got some second-hand good condition 275/40R17 Hoosier DR2 radials. Test and tune in November showed the tyres were an upgrade over my over 15 year old mickey Thompson's and I got a 1.8 second 60ft and pb et of 11.71 but even then, that run wasn't great due to rain and driver error (the event got called off 10 minutes later fast forward to the weekend just gone 25th of Jan and there was finally a break in the weather to let racing happen. The first run the track was slippery and only managed a 12.1@129 Second run the track was better and got a new pb et and mph: 11.54@131   Lith and I then worked out that I installed the previously mentioned clutch slipper incorrectly and its never been working, and I had just been dumping the clutch the entire time, we also noticed it was on street boost and not race boost. So I lined up for a third run with the car turned up in the first two gears, but the passengers side axle objected to clutch dumps and left the chat which stopped my weekend.   so there will be another attempt in the future once I replace the tyres as they rubbed and are stuffed now. but a low 11 should be on the cards.
    • Ceramic coating and heat shielding, you mean?
    • Turbos don't require pulling the motor apart so that's "easier". I would recommend the Nismo R3 turbos instead if you want to do stock twin turbo. It doesn't make as much power as the 2530s but it's only like ~50 whp off the mark and should have better response (ball bearing CHRA, slightly smaller turbo). A local that went with a Garrett G30 and 6boost manifold recently nearly burned his car to the ground after the hood insulator started melting and and burning so if you go single turbo I recommend doing a lot of research and validation work to make sure you don't do the same.
