Hey guys,

As of today, I have taken a deposit on my LS400 and am in the market for a new car. Having had a turbo skyline before, I then went the VIP route with the LS400 which was awesome, but a hard car to live with in the city (60mm clearance, 19s, V8 fuel consumption).

My choices are along the lines of a Legnum, Chaser, or a Stagea.

I have always loved Stageas and been intrigued by their unusual look and rarity. So after a few days of research, I have come to the conclusion that I am keen to get my hands on one and do some light modding whilst retaining functionality.

So I’m putting the call out to the community to help me find one. I always scour carsales etc regularly, so I’ve seen them come and go over the past few years, but now that it has come the time for me to buy – I can’t find one that is perfect for me. given that I will need to make a purchase fairly soon, I can’t afford to wait to import one. So if you guys can help me find one, I’d be hugely appreciative!

My wish list is:

Colour – Pearl White/ Bayside Blue (!)/ Pearl Black (love the colour, hate a dirty car),

Series II

under 100,000kms

Leather

Dual Sunroof

Xenon Headlamps

prefer RWD but AWD will be ok

and auto is fine.

So if you know of any that match this criteria, please post the link or let me know where the car is!

Cheers, Mat

nobody have any leads? nobody selling?

i've got a guy bringing a 2000 S2 in black with dual roofs, AWD, Xenon and Auto trans out to my work on thursday for a look. But it's the pov looking velour interior.

and there is a black 5 Spd S2 w/ roofs in sydney that has what looks like the 32 GT-R interior - i've sat in 32 GT-R seats before and they're not that comfy.....is this version of the stagea interior the same deal?

things to look for:

from the buyers guide, i've picked up that i need to watch for rust under the wing mirrors, around the sunroof, and around the strut towers.

surely there are other common issues? like mechanical etc?

M35.

hmm, not my cup of tea. i've also got a 14k price limit. want it on the road and insured for as close to 15k as possible. i'd rather get a nice S2 than a cheap M35.

the thing that attracts me heavily to it is the heavy aftermarket support, and i think the strength still lies with the C34 range.

Check out what this guy's got, where I bought mine from

He hardly ever updates the website, so give them a call or pop in to see what is in stock.

He kept an eye out for me with the specifics (dual roof, auto tiptronic, kr4 silver etc...) then gave

me call when he had one in the showroom, put a deposit on there and then it was in such good condition.

p.s. he got a GTR could go one of them ;)

Looks nice

thanks guys,

i appreciate those who have PM'd me with info and offers.

this is definitely a WTB thread effectively, so if you're considering selling then please get in touch. i'm looking to spend around the 15k mark, preferably with RWC and rego - so if you're car falls around that figure then please get in touch.

i'm also becoming more partial to the pearl white colour. reality check reminded me how much of a hellish time i have keeping my LS400 clean (it dark navy blue), and how much trouble and care i have to undertake to keep swirls out of the paint so i think white would be a nice change!

has anyone got any feedback on the 32 GT-R style interior that i seem to see on a lot of the 5sp manuals? comfort wise?

Think the green one For sale has gtr front seats...

sorry rodney, i'm after an S2 only. i actually prefer the look of the S1 front end, but i want the neo motor and tiptronic.

think peal white is the way to go.

and how rare are the driving lights in the Dayz front bar?

Mine had the lower Dayz Driving lights. They come with factory switches inside all quite a neat setup. You will have trouble with a front mount if you try and keep them though as they stick out the back quite a bit.

Mine are still in the shed if anyone is interested.

Also the Manual Stagea interior is alot better then R32 GTR in my opinion. The Seat style is very similar to that of the R34GTT but with better headrests. They have great side support that normal Stagea Seats lack also the sport suede (perforated grey on blue) looks pretty good.

Thanks for that. I would prefer to get an auto in terms of usability, but i'm blown away by the amount of power loss through the drivetrain - so if i were to go 5speed, it would be for that reason only.

and what's the general consensus on 2WD v AWD? from my reading, AWD weighs about 100kg more, and obviously the weight and extra rotational mass hurt fuel consumption - so they're disadvantages. and i guess also, it's one more set of CV and a diff that can fail, but what else?

would people with AWD's preferred to have gone 2WD if they could? should i hang out for a 2WD manual? or is it not worth the wait. i dont drift, or do burnouts EVER - so that isn't a factor. it's more about driveability, useability of the power, fuel consumption and potential mechanical issues.

Another question, is it fact or myth that you must have a black wired alarm installed to get insurance on these??

Let me know if your interested and you can take mine for a spin. I could be convinced to sell it for a good price especially if it is going to a good home. (Hate to see all the money I have put into it not be appreciated).

Fuel wise I get around 450km a tank normal driving. I think everyone will tell you that Stageas do drink fuel if you have a heavy foot, e.g. Big Car and Turbo Engine not the best combination for fuel economy but on the whole not so bad in my opinion.

Drivetrain wise I love the AWD especially in the wet it does make you feel alot more secure. Also being a factory manual mine has the same setup as the R33 GTR so a pretty much bulletproof drive train for most people.

Not sure about the black wired alarm it may be a myth (Although I do know mine is a black wired Viper with pager remote :P ) . My insurance through Just Car which I just renewed in May was just under $1300 which included all modifications and wheels. I am 29 and have no history of accidents though so not sure how it would compare to others trying to insure a similar car.

Hope that helps

thanks justin, i just might take you up on your offer - if nothing else, it will be good to have a good chin way with a genuine enthusiast - that's the best way to get up to speed for sure! i'm flat out this weekend but maybe we can tee something up for the following.

i have found a bayside blue one that is very tempting. it's a bit exxy, but i'm wondering if the colour would ultimately protect the resale value. it does have a dolphin kit on it though, which i'm not a real fan of because its just so low and you can't have the car at reasonable height without leaving heaps of daylight under the wheel arches.

if it's not bayside blue, it's white.

thoughts on that? bayside blue or pearl white!!!?

I have never actually seen a bayside blue stagea in the fleshso I can't really comment, but the colour is nice. The stagea white is a great colour though also it has a slight silver pearl in it and looks really good under the sun or lights at night.

yep, i've decided i want an S2 pearl white. that's what i'm after, so keep the info coming!

how hard are those roof rack delete kits to come by?

They come up for sale in japan every now and then, but I imagine postage would be a killer due to the length of them

From memory there was a group buy on here a while back for them from an Australian company as well, but I don't know if anybody who was in on that has recieved anything yet, because they were being custom made

Well of course I am biased! But the Bayside blue in my opinion is going to hold resale better (as long as it is factory painted, TV2 paint code). I have one with a Dolphin kit, and the wood an leather interior. This is a Prime Edition. Only about 2% of S2 Stagea's were ever painted in Bayside Blue. Someone in Japan checked for me one day, of over 1500 Stagea's on sale on that day only 7 were Bayside Blue. AFAIK I have the only TV2 prime edition in Aus.

The kit is low, and yes I do have to watch the kerbs and driveways. But it looks so good that I wouldn't change it.

The interior that you refer to in the RS4S (manual) is the same type of cloth and seats as the older GTR's but as far as I know, it isn't a problem.

Also I think that anyone wanting a Stagea should really look at the 4WD, the grip alone is worth the extra weight. It is such a safe car, you have to try really hard to loose it. I have only ever managed this on a track after the (road) tyres start to overheat. Then it's like driving on jellybeans! Still very controllable though. I wouldn't want to attempt that in a 2WD. The 4WD can be put into 2WD quite easily. Look for Bubba's post on how to do that.

sounds like you've got a great combo there. bayside blue AND prime edition.

this is the bayside blue one i've been in discussions over:

just not sold on the kit, maybe it's the rims fitted - but the kit just looks overwhelming, and very low and impractical....it is in 4B condition though, and Kristian tells me it belong to a member of the Tokyo Stagea Owner's Club!

    • Also had a look at the Nissan JP website looks like the 400r has a slightly shorter ratio than than the regular V37 3.133 VS 2.937 which from a guy who has driven both 3.69 vs 4.11 ratios in the S15 is bugger all. Seems that the AUTO Z runs the same ratio as the 400R but can't find any info as to if its an open or LSD? More often than not the auto LSD is open
    • Do not replace the power steering lines with this stuff. If it's anything like the Chase Bays stuff it will leak and be worse than stock. The reason why the reservoir is on the LH/passenger side of the car is because that's just where the reservoir was most convenient to fit. Don't overthink this stuff. The intake/cold side of the engine is pretty busy on these cars. And again, the hardpipe is designed to be a janky power steering cooler. In theory you can replace it with a real power steering cooler but that's really only for track use where boiling the fluid is a distinct possibility. Start with the low pressure lines feeding the pump from the reservoir. Make sure there isn't a bunch of junk in the reservoir filter. Be careful to not get ATF all over the engine bay. I hate dealing with ATF spills, you can clean it up and the slightest crevice will still release more oil that can still drip over time. You also want to inspect for leaks before you make a mess and can't tell what happened. Most likely you have a leak somewhere that is allowing fluid out and air in. Failing that it's allowing air in but not fluid out. Only place I can really see that happening is on the low pressure side because the pump will pull a slight vacuum to draw fluid in. Everything after the pump is high pressure or lower pressure, approaching atmospheric by the time it returns to the reservoir.
    • I did a skidpan night at SMSP this week, it was much cheaper than $350. But yeah, you need to slap an LSD in that thing.  I put an OS Giken in the 370Z and it's f**king MARVELOUS even compared to Nissan's viscous LSD. So you're saying it's free now that it's a housing estate? 😂
    • Nah, the car seems to run exactly as it did prior, in saying this it does "seem" to be better down low, like more eager to rev, but that may be 100% placebo effect from intake noise But, I'm not worried about it at all, in the end it is a fairly low compression NA engine that has a well shrouded intake,  if it is getting hotter IAT I cannot notice anything negative performance wise from the seat of my pants thrashing it about on the street or sitting in traffic, so meh, car now now makes induction noise so I'm happy
    • Do you have an IAT sensor? It's worth checking it to see. You may be suprised how little gap you actually need to flood your engine with hot air. (I tape up my airbox for a reason) :p
