There is nothing wrong with Achilles tyres when you compare them to tyres in the same range/category. Obviously they are not the best tyres you can buy, but for the money and price range, it has to be one of the best available. they are Indoneasian not chinese made, manufactured using silica rubber, and locally distributed with proper warranty.

You will find many stores bring in their own containers of cheap and nasty brands, and will charge the same price for them as you can get these. If you can afford to get a better brand then go for it, if not, these would be my choice from the base tyre range.

Sorry for the thread dig here.

I've used a bunch of tyres, ContiSports, Falken 452, Potenza R050, RE05A, and also cheap stuff like Nexen N3000, Achilles ATR Sport, 'BlueStreak' .. All sorts of stuff

I am about to buy a pair of the Achilles tyres (245/35R19) for my daily (VY Berlina) and I have no problem in doing so, but then again, this is my daily. I'm paying $170 / tyre fitted and balanced, for me its the best tyre in the price range, in Sydney or Canberra.

Maybe most people here steer clear of the cheaper tyres because they have big power and a harder suspension setup, a more performance oriented setup.

But for people with a general daily driver, or wanting a cheap tyre that wears well and has acceptable wet grip, I don't see anything wrong with Achilles, although I have found you do sacrifice some 'noise' .. they tyre is a bit noise due to the tread pattern combined with the rubber used. Still reasonable grip for good money.

I'm on my second set of Achillies "ATR Sports" for street duties in my R and would recommend people give them a go before commentting. This particular Achillies model is good value for money IMO and I've a few friends who'd agree. I've no bad stories to report about them and have even used them at a track day due to not having time to change over to my R888's on my track dedicated rims. The above is based on a particular Achillies model, so don't confuse them with other models. Will probly try the "Achillies 123" at some stage as have had some positive feedback about these also. These came with my car in 225/45/17, i got a receipt from the previous owner dating back to Feb 2011, i purchased the car not long after that. Its now 2013 and they finally need to be changed, but damn they lasted long. I have had no problems with the tyres at all, i like the way they perform in the dry, took em up to terrigal using the twisties not the M1 and i was having fun.

They aren't the stickiest tyres as people have mentioned, but for the price ($305 for two fitted) they were fun and reliable. Wet weather performance is another story though, i do not have the confidence to push these in the wet!

I am going for nittos next though.

I've just fitted Achillies "ATR Sports" 245/40/18s on my v36. So far its performed pretty well, tyres noise on par with the previous Falkens tyres wet weather performance is quite good doesn't slid easily unless you are attempting to slide.

    • Hey lads, reviving an old thread.  As an update, since the last time replied to this thread, ive done mostly suspension. Havent touched the motor except for maintenance. Though upon changing spark plugs, found out i had splitfires pre-installed! Updates: - Got me some stock airbox top cover and snorkel to fit onto the original intake. Should be free of defects - Bought a set of R34 GT-T brakes (not installed yet, going to rebuild + respray in champion blue + white 'Nissan' text) - Bought the last set of bilsteins from @Sydneykid and had them installed. Has been making some sounds on the rear but hopefully should be sorted out after this New Year break. - Regreased front caster rod bushings (poly bushes..) - Rear upper camber arms - Whiteline sway bars (BNF27Z 22mm + BNR11XXZ 24mm).  The rear sway bars are a bit short (ive read 50mm else where) but was still able to get them in.  Anyhows, I reckon suspension is sorted now. Maybe replace bushes (do have a set of front upper control arms from SK not installed yet) but should be okay for now. From now, I'm wanting to start working on the motor, drivetrain etc etc. Still debating on the order to go on and what to buy etc but: - ECU ( Haltech or Link ( Link states that it dont support A/T or AWD functions... Can anyone attest to this? ) - Highflow turbo ( ATR43ss2 ) - Intercooler ( Not decided yet, but cant find many good afoordable ones. Toshi says to opt for crossflow Japanese. Bit difficult this one, unless I get a returnflow Blitz from JJ? ) - Injectors ( Any recommendations ? I do have a nismo FPR ( Thanks SK ) ) - Seats - Tune by either Toshi or DVS To be fair, I did consider just keeping the stock turbo and nistuning it. Sat in a mates stock N, that had something like 200kw, and I reckon that felt more than enough. Maybe I should just go this route ahhaha. Too many choices.... Planning a trip down south, so wanting to just clean things up and make sure it gets to and from in one piece. Anything else specifically I should do before ? Cheers lads
    • Must be for the car’s lucky charm 🤷🏽‍♂️ She runs fine, but it just seems to take about 1L less. Maybe I’ll have the oil sump dropped at some point to check if there is anything
    • Hmmm interesting. Mine is the exact same and clearly the right one.  The mystery of the engine oil being full after 3.5-4L continues
    • Yes I as well would like to find out where I could get some of the seat material with the red or blue small squares in it
