Just interested if anyone on the inside might know the answer to this question. The thing that's strange is that Pedders VE Commodore coilovers have been out for nearly 2 years and are clearly made of BC parts but BC only just released some under their brand name. I know BC Racing shocks are pretty much all valved the same or at least run generic valving for the spring rate rather than the car. Maybe Pedders do or specify their own valving to justify the extra $700 for the same thing?

after reading around, most people agree pedders shocks are the same as monroe shocks.

got any pics to compare the pedders coilovers to bc coilovers?

Yep their factory replacement style shocks are Monroes. The Coilovers are definately made by BC. I'm just interested in if Pedders use better valving that BC coilovers come with as BC's are pretty generic.

$700 are a big difference... if they are nearly the same, it would be a lot cheaper to get the BCs revalved instead of buying those Pedders. I talked to a guy at BC Racing one year ago and he told me, that they can do a custom coilover set with custom valving. But you have to know what you want or need :( (at least a damping curve).

It's always better to purchase a custom made coilover set for the specific car. Corner weights differ from car to car and most cheaper sets (like BC Racing, K-Sport (D2), XYZ etc.) aren't up to the task.

One question:

Which model of the Pedders and which model of the BC Racing coilovers are you talking about?

Most cheap suspension parts come from Taiwan - Teins are from Taiwan, too! Taiwan doesn't mean bad quality, but it means 10 brands getting the same stuff for their suspension components. e.g.: At XYZ you an purchase coilover kits with aluminium and steel lower mount, choose second one and they look exactly like a BC Racing coilover in another color (btw: BC Racing has just changed the color from gold to red anodized). Even if some parts aren't the same, some could be.

Just have a look at Koyo radiators, they're made in Indonesia...

If you want to know if the coilovers of Pedders and BC Racing use the same valving, then you have to put them on a shock dyno or disassemble the whole thing. Should be a valuable info: some guys with different shocks testing them at a suspension shops shock dyno and posting the graphs right here (hardest and softest setup) - worth a new Thread?

With corner weights and shock dyno graphs it's not that difficult to calcute the best spring rate for your application!

Wasn't meant that way - just wanted to clarify that taiwanese doesn't mean bad quality  there are a lot of shi*ty parts from China, Taiwan, Indonesia and so on, and there are a lot of shi*ty parts from germany, too :ermm: it's capitalism: sell something cheap/shabby for big money. Not possible to generalise "country = countries quality". All up to the builder's passion and skill!

Sure that Pedders are BC coilovers 1:1?

Sure that Pedders are BC coilovers 1:1?

That's what I'm trying to find out. The PARTS that make up the coilover (maybe minus the springs) ARE 100% made by BC Racing. That's the only thing the public know for sure.

Just because the outer parts look/are the same doesn't mean the dampning units, thats all the import inside bits that you cant see, are the same. Both brands will source their gear from the same factory, its possible that pedders option a better dampning unit with better valving or its also possible that its pedders, that company known for enthusiastic pricing, & they've just got a nice profit in them.

    • Hi guys, Sorry to butt in and take it slightly off course, although still on the VCAM subject.  I had VCAM put into my Tomei 2.8 bottom end and I struggle to take off because the engine has very little torque caused by VERY low dynamic compression at 60psi. But once off the mark and especially on boost, the engine rev happily all the way to 8000rpm and makes 630hp at 20psi of boost on E85 at the rear hubs. Has anyone had any similar experience or any suggestions on what might cause this low compression at low rpm? I am in the process of converting it into a 8hp transmission and with this low torque, the engine would not even stay running until the throttle is opened to more than 30% and then I loose all vacuum.
    • Last year I got a set of MCA street coilovers for my turbo Forester after my son hitting a concrete gutter/wall on a small bridge causing the whole drivers side suspension to get bent because the rain just made the car slide out I love them, I think they were $2400. even had a hiccup of have the wrong hub configuration (my fault) so got onto MCA and they sent the correct shock ends overnight parts from QLD, for free!  I was very impressed with their customer service and quality of the product
    • They've had some weird failures on their brake actuators. One of them was because they added some kind of lubricant to the factory fill brake fluid that aftermarket brake fluid didn't have so it would affect the seals. Another was just mysterious, probably internal corrosion or something eating away at Prius brake actuators. Parts alone for those are a few thousand USD so not a cheap fix.
