hmmm i think i might have to take a tiptronic for a drive, to see if its a path im willing to go down, as an alternative to going to manual!

yeah you'll soon realise you made the better choice with manual!

Get yourself an auto sump gasket kit and a 20L drum of (ideally) quality synthetic atf. You need 12 to 14L for the auto and you can use the rest for your attessa and power steering. Drain the sump and drop it (easier said then done - you will have to support the box and remove the rear mounting). You will only get betweeen 1 and 2 litres this way. Check that the new internal filter is exactly the same (otherwise the sump won't go back on) and if not either modify the new one to suit or clean the old one and put it back. Put 2L of fresh oil down the dip stick tube.

Then pull a hose off the trans oil cooler and run the engine until you have pumped out 2L into a container. Pour 2L of new oil down the dipstick tube and repeat until you get clean oil coming out. This will take 12 to 14L in total.

Whats the pov way to change the auto fluid? Eg no new filter, leave the gearbox gasket alone.

1) Drain it.

2) Can you turn it over with no fuel pump, to pump out old fluid ?

3) Fill it up

Supposedly my fluids have been changed when I did a gearbox change recently. The mechanic said he also changed the fluid in the transfer case, but didn't look changed when I did it.

You can do as above less pulling the sump off but if your engine doesn't go you'll have to wait until it does!

I finally got around to servcing my auto gearbox yesterday.

I hear that the filter is cleanible.

One of the bolts threaded a hole for the sump :(. I'm thinking about drilling it a bit deeper and tapping it and putting in a slightly longer bolt. Or maybe going up a bolt size. They are M6 bolts, I wonder if they make an M7 one, that would probably be safer.

I've given the diffs and transfer case a fluid change as well.

Depends how much cheaper it is to swap the autos the go manual, I agree on the benefits of driving auto in traffic and I find the tiptronic is pretty good most of the time, little unresponsive occasionally but atleast u can hold a gear as long as u like

Yep the filter's metal so you can just clean it. I'd go for a longer bolt of it looks safe to drill more. ...rather than have one odd bolt size (or just leave it out and see if it leaks first!).

wow old thread, took that long to service your box? Well i did work out that i could have done the s2 tiptronic swap, especially cos i could have used the neo head on my rb30, but ive gone for the manual conversion now!

Yeah that long to muster some courage. Had a few other things to do as well, I only have one spot to work on cars, and that spot is usually got a project in there. The auto had been done around that time. But I didn't trust the mechanic did it or used the right stuff.

I ended up drilling and tapping a slightly longer bolt into the sump.

Drained it from the pipe above the sump plug. Had to lower the gearbox a bit to easily get the pipe off and on. Tied some plastic tube onto the pipe with a cable tie.

Had a go at pumping it out by cranking. That took for ever so I hooked up the fuel fuse and ran it a few short times, keeping fluid topped up.

I ended up pumping about 5L out of it.

I added an extra magnet I got off my last box and placed it above the sump plug.

I also had to tap one of the cross-member bolt holes. Because the bolt didn't want to go in.

lol, no you woudn't have..you would have been in a world of pain..with a car in a million pieces, s.1 and s.2 electronically are not the same car, nothings the same ..just ask 4bidn1 on here..roflmao

    • Hello, I'm trying to make this thread basically the thread with all the answers to common questions regarding specifically the RB20 DE NEO + T engine, that comes in the R34. Answers will and only should be provided by those who have done this conversion or actually have some relevant real life experience please. Please feel free to ask questions in the comments if you have any so other members can answer. I feel like this thread is really needed, especially with more Americans buying (unknowingly going to regret it too) rb20 neo r34s. My first question being - What do you guys use for tuning? I have purchased a haltech elite 2500 Plug and play kit for the rb25det NEO because the ecu plug is the same, but I am unsure if any of the pins would need to be repined to match. Second question that I see asked very often - After this conversion, did you install the boost solenoid/ actuator? I see many people doing a + T setup on their rb20 NEOs while running stock RB25DET NEO ECUs with no tune. I am wondering how they are going about doing that and consistently abusing the car because many of these people have had these untuned setups running for a very long time. That was my original plan, but my engine cuts out at 5 psi of boost using the stock ecu with no tune and no boost solenoid/actuator.
    • interesting. ive read and heard otherwise over the past year. ive been doing this +t conversion on a rb20 neo using all oem rb25det neo parts including the ECU, and im having engine cut out issues when I hit around 5 psi of boost. Everywhere/everyone ive asked has told me its because I never wired in a boost solenoid/actuator to the ecu, so the ecu isn't getting the right signal once it hits 5 psi of boost, causing the engine to get shut off.

    • Something strange is happening. I didn't touch the car since we last spoke on the forums. Yesterday was the first day of good weather, so i took it out for about 2 hours. It started up on first crank every time about 5 times total. I literally didn't do anything to do the car.
