Just a note for the guys who want to run twin HID's. 2 points. Firstly you cant flash people if they cut you off, are your mates etc. Secondly if you have your low beams on and switch to high beams, the high beams will take about 20 seconds to come on. I wouldnt be doing it. I have low/high HID's in my truck, but they use a common bulb, so i only have the flashing problem, which is a real pain.

Ill be in for a set of series 1 lights. And an idea for the parker/indicator problem, why not run dual colour LEDs not much dearer and it wouldnt take much to design a cct that takes both inputs and changes the voltage to run the LEDs. If people are interested i can have a go at designing a cct to do it and price it up.

Could you explain the dual colour LED thing a bit more? I didn't even realise that was available!

So it is one LED that depending on an input can be a white parker, or a flashing orange indicator?

You would run the normal inputs ie when parkers are on the LEDS are white and when the indicator is turned on the LEDS change to orange and will flash because youll still be using the original indicator cct. (use both inputs as per a normal setup)

There is two types of BI colour LEDs, 3 pin types which are just basically two LEDs built into the same discreet package or voltage depended ones which change colour depending on input voltage. Depending on what type you can get in a White/orange combination will determine what kind off cct youll need to drive them properly and youll need to set them up in such a way so that they dont load down the flasher can and make them flash fast.

Ill give jaycar or RS a ring on monday and see what they have available. Ill also have a go at designing a cct to drive them but you might be better off getting hold of an electronics engineer (might be one on here somewhere?) theyll be able to knock something up no worries. (Im only a techy not an engineer)

cheers shaun

Very interesting! Definetely something to look into then. I'll let the boys at SPINTO know and see what they think.

hows this coming along?? i'll be looking for a new set of headlights soon... i'm trying to hold out and see of these can come through in time.

I have been waiting for a reply from Richard at Spinto regarding this project due to some news I came across on the Supraforums:

http://www.supraforums.com.au/forum/showthread.php/67723-Important-announcement

SPINTO will temporarily be halting ALL sales after the 26th of January. We will be working in the motorsport industry and won't have time to manufacture more parts. We will be closing down the supraforums SPINTO section until we are ready to open again. We should be back in 2013.

To our customers who have been very patiently waiting for our plastic headlight kit. We apologise, we did not foresee this event.

Looks like this project may never happen :(

there are some mobs in the states that do hid retrofits and i know of one specifically that has projectors especially for rhd cars.

So this might not be dead but just needs a change of approach.

i think first thing first is to agree on a design (for both s1 and s2) then we can approach someone to see if they can mass produce it.

just got into the office so i'll be busy for a little while but i'll see what i can track down.

For what its worth it might be worth while to track down a large number of used headlights with crap glass to be used as the basis of replacements.

further to what i was just saying... this thread went down in flames... but its a good start... it has a customiser and some parts suppliers listed... we might be able to get something usable out of it.

Why not start a group buy for replacement glass covers? That would be awesome! Any glass moulder/manufacturer could do it and I'm sure there would be hundreds of customers!

Still no word back from SPINTO so I dare say this aint going to happen.

Sorry guys :(

Will definetely look into some other option though.

My plastics are really "new" still, not faded or yellow, so i was more interested in the "sweet LED and HID" part of this deal, but the glass should be good too. How different would glass look compared to excellent condition/polished plastic? Obviously it wouldn't fade over time, but i'm wondering if it's worth the cost :)
