i have a problem with my R32 GTS4 RB20DET. i have a small amount of mods - zorst, filter, bleed valve, 500hp fuel pump, 10psi. and its finally manual.. lol. sorry,. anyway ever since i have had the car the power after 5 grand dies off a fair bit. not as much now that the manual is in there but its really annoying when you are trying to drag someone. its not the plugs or coil packs. what could it be???? i have a autometer air/fuel meter and it leans out when it hits 5 grand... when i did the conversion i put in the manual computer as well. has anyone had a problem like this before?

Wastegate actuator?

no no no. It's just then factory turbo. Nothing can be done.

It can be improved a little bit with an exhaust etc etc.

and 'I go from .7 to .9 above 5 grand.'

i think there is something VERY wrong there.

but whats with the mixture leaning out past there? my mate wants my turbo for his cultus gti motor that is in a sierra. so he is sourcing me a RB25 turbo and he'll fit it for free. so do you thing thats what the problem is.

also it goes ok the first time you get up it after you start it ( after warming it up )???? then it just dies again

Hi,

I had the same sort of problem with my r32, everything is stock and you would expect the power to drop off , but i found the knock sensor were stuffed when i did a diagnostic on the ECU and now its got pretty good power till about 5800-6000rpm

my 2c

You mention you are getting 1 good run and then nothing?

What type of bleed? I had a turbosmart single stage switchable which did this till i removed the ball and spring in the tee piece

My stock turbo made 164rwkw on 12psi with frountmount, zorst, pod and hks actuator. Peak power was at 5800rpm. This figure was posted 2 weeks before the stock turb died too so the turb was probably on the way out.

i got a power something one i can't remember which one it is. but it was doing the problem before i put it on. so i'll try and remove it and see what happens..

could it be the cooler as well, cos its only stock one. could it be some sensor of some sort as well that is stuffed over time?

my friend has a gtir and he had a blocked cat and it didn't boost at all.. nothing. but mine still boosts

If its leaning out then it would be pulling timing out too as a safety measure. With that sort of fuel pump and stock turbo you should be running rich as buggery. Get it on the dyno with a proper A/F meter and that will tell the real story.

I can't believe the amount of

"Put on a bigger turbo posts"

The bloke just said he's got an autometer afr reading and it's reading lean.

Should he take that advice, boom goes the engine...

I didn't expect this from you Ash.

Anyway, if you find you're leaning out after 5 grand, look at your fuel map first. If that looks right, then look at your fuel pump, it may be faulty.

Then and only after then should you take the advice that's been given here.

yeah its getting dyno'd soon so that should tell me what the heck is going on. so does anyone know why the computer would be retarding the timing or leaning it out? the fuel pump was tested and when the conversion was done the manual computer was put in. but the car did the same thing with the auto computer.. could it be a reg problem or something ( not enough fuel getting to the injectors )??

i have a simliar problem on my 33 but i lose power between say 3800  and 5000rpm but then it kicks hard again from 5 to 7000rpms! any ideaS???

This sounds like the classic RB25DET m-m-m-m-missing due to the spark being blown out by the turbo. I bet if you gapped your plugs @.75mm (thx for that one Jay95) you'd be real happy !!

sorry to hijack thread Mr gts4 - just helping where I can.
