hi guys

i have a GQ patrol with a RB25DET in it and was thinking of the best way to go to get more low end power but yet it can still hold its own in the top end i would like to get at lest 200kw at the wheels but keeping in mind i'am not running 17's i have 35x12.5 15

i was thinking hi-flow R33 turbo, 550cc injectors, maybe power FC or nistune, front mount but dont know what size was thinking 600x300x50 with 2.5" in and out let...i can't think of anything els

what do you guys think any help would be good

Your best bet is to look through RB25 Dyno results thread and go from there for turbo selection.

But what you have planned, it sounds like a recipe for what you want.

Since RB25DET have VCT, ask your tuner to tune for VCT to come in early for low end power if possible.

from what Ive noticed, Hi-flows tend to make there power high in the rev range, you want low end power change your turbo choice maybe or at least tell the person doing the hi-flow that its for a 4x4and not a car ........other than that Id think your on target..

Even look for something like a HKS 2530, will be super responsive still and give you the power your after.

Probably wont need larger injector's, deffinatley go a larger front mount.

Dont forget to, that with big 35"s you will show a lower figure on the dyno, changing to smaller tyres to get it tuned will result in the 200rwkw easier.

Last option is more expensive but try and get a RB30 bottom end.

Is the HKS 2530 bigger then the stock turbo??..if so it will not fit as the stock turbo is just about sitting on the engine mount

i was thinking about the RB30 bottom end but was told that it is not as reliable

    • I always find it both fascinating and educating seeing you go through all this. It's a bit like "BMWs are great. Except with one massive caveat: as long as you fix this two page long list of things where components are broken by design" Every now and then I consider getting a BMW. And then I read your posts and think that maybe the RB life is not so bad after all
    • For the record, I hate the colour. Even if I'll never see it again, I know its in there.
    • This is another issue I'm fixing. This little valve stops all the oil from draining to the sump when the engine is turned off. What happens eventually is that the engine is a little noisy and has the oil pressure light on for a few seconds after turning it on. Basically it takes a few seconds to build the pressure when all the oil has drained. This valve is a non serviceable part and is attached to the oil filter housing, BMW suggests to replace the entire housing if this valve fails.  As it turns out this valve can be removed and that means you can get an aftermarket replacement, which I did. The failure, for me at least is that the valve doesn't seat properly after a while, which I've demonstrated. The new one is a ball end and always seats properly.
    • Welp don't know if this is good but I can hear a sizzling sound in my battery Hope I didn't fry it. Turns out a bad battery in the multi meter will give a false reading (likely what happened when I said I had 15x volts), swapped the battery and monitoring now. I'm hoping that sizzling sound is just the equlisation charging
    • Yeah I'm happy to talk to whoever, I don't want to take ownership or even manage it if they don't want but I can probably help with hosting on the sau setup. It's a great resource and should be protected.
