I have taken your initial advice

booked into Hyperdrive on Saturday and yes I will have it towed

Andrew was very helpful

I think its either an air leak or turbo gasket

hope no more damage

Thanks for your advice

No worries, they'll look after you, and on a hoist will identify the problem much quicker :D

Had the same problems on my Ceffy, I checked and fixed:

Ignition

Fuel Injection (including fuel cleaner)

Air Flow Meter

Throttle Position Sensor

O2 Sensor

ECU

I ended up finding coolant in the heads over 4, 5 and 6, and about half a litre inside the crank...no idea how it got there, the oil looked all good, and water levels had barely dropped....so .... yeah, hope for the best but be preparred if it doesn't go down that way.

Ahhh the reason i love BMW's so much. They just don't go wrong.

Problem after problem with the Skylines =\ (no offence intended).

You gotta take the good with the bad

With BM's you have the reliability but you have to deal with driving a boring ugly car

no offence intended

No offence taken mate :)

Also, to add to your comment specifically of driving a "boring" car - to be completely honest, I enjoy driving my BMW more so than the Skyline. Don't get me wrong, the Skyline was nice to drive with the power etc, but the beema just has the luxury, smoothness and mine being a 2.5L I6, it's not slow at all.

Honestly, I enjoy driving my beema and having some fun in it more so than in the skyline, but don't get me wrong, i still love my skylines :P

Sorry dude just was in a bad mood because my car died

Nice looking car

still hate bm's tho

Have you checked your coil packs? I recently had a similar problem, back firing no power wouldn't idle properly i assumed a pipe/hose had come off but they where all fine. Then checked my coils and turns out one of them had completely melted.

Swapped a new one over and is running fine again.

  • 2 weeks later...

I am back on the road

Thanks for everyones help

Most thanks to the guys at Hyperdrive who did a great job at

a very reasonable price

It ended up being the cam angle sensor AND camshaft stripped

where they connect

Both had to be replaced

This caused the exhaust manifold to crack right down the centre vertically !!!!!

The turbo gasket was also gone

At the same time I had my 100K service (timing belt + pulleys and water pump)

The rocker cover gasket also needed replacing

Now it goes absolutely brilliant

Pulls harder than ever

Life's good again!

Good to hear mate.

and to make the commetn that they looked after you and pricing was reasonable for all that work must mean it was good.

Most of the time you have to die a little inside and pack away the credit card for a couple of months as you pay those kind of bills...
