Looked At My First R33 Today...

Recommended Posts

something to consider is that cheap doesn't always mean nasty, people just often think it is. you can pick up mint condition cars cheap if you look long enough. if you find a car that has been on the market for ages then you have a higher chance of getting it cheaper as the seller might be getting sick of trying to sell it and just want it gone. at the same time you may have someone who fancies themselves as a car selling guru so are selling a heap of junk for a higher price simply because the car looks tidy because they have done a good job of hiding the faults. then there's the fact that series 2 often go for a higher price than s1 and s1.5. so you can get a good condition s1 for less than an ordinary s2.

But there are quite a few S2s around for 10-11k. Surely not all of them are bad?

I guess the only way to find out is to go have a look at them and get them tested by StateRoads. Do StateRoads do compression testing? From what I can see from their sample report they don't. How can I go about getting a compression test done if I am on the other wide of the city? Hmmm.

As mad-man said above you, you just need to scrutinise/discriminate for long enough and the right one will pop up. Patience is a virtue!

Some enthusiasts' high quality cars pop here on SAU (statistically), and they can be very good indeed; compared with less frequent goodies on carsales.com. But my Prelude was snapped up by a father and son who saw me as a mature-age owner - and the same thing happened when I sold my R33 GT-R. Keep a lookout for mature-age owners who still drive by sight, and not just by sound... hehe...

Yeah I'm starting to notice a few nice looking GTSTs for 10, and others for much higher that offer nothing extra, sometimes less!

Some people will just always be unrealistic about what their cars are actually worth I guess.

The trick is getting one of these things roadworthied!

If anyone knows a good place to get R33s roadworthied in Melbourne please PM me.

Cheers.
