Ok guys thought Id add an update.

I went to my tuners today to use his hand controller cause I know it works with my PFC (new one has been ordered)

On the check sensors screen all is good except for the Exhaust temp sensor which read 0.1v and was highlighted. BUT he then showed me how the pin for the ex sensor (pin 33) was out as he did it a while back when he first installed the pfc cause he thought that was the problem. So we put the a/c on and presto the light goes out and the exhaust temp sensor reading goes into normal range. Now it makes no difference if the pin is in or out so thats why he has left it out to rule out that part of the equation.

He also said he swaped over the CAS and CAM pins when he installed the PFC as the car wouldnt start so he found out about the emu pin swap from the pin diagram (he has limited experience with the EMU and he does not intend to gain any, haha)

Now this may be a coincidence but on the way home from his workshop after about 20mins of normal driving the light went out again (pretty normal as nothing seems to trigger it either way, its very random) but I did notice I could hear my walbro all of a sudden and the idle got the slightest bit better as in lost the old skyline/PFC, tiny not quite a miss on idle thing. Seemed to raise idle by maybe 100rpm max too.

Now as I said this may be coincidence cause im finding i am concentrating on every little thing in the car at the moment trying to sus this out.

I dunno, if my car was getting tuned by some of the other shit workshops around Id be a bit sus but Yavuz from Unigroup is honestly probably one of the best tuners in Oz for the PFC and he is very thorough so I dont think he is making excuses. I trust him 100% with my car.

We are thinking we might send the PFC off to get checked out for something faulty next up and if it comes back all clear then its a wiring issue.

Anybody feel like letting me use there pfc for 5 mins to see if it does the same thing with thiers? :nyaanyaa::D

Now forgive the noob question but as Ive been reading and researching so much over the last few days I cant remember if a) you can monitor the fuel pump on the H/C??? and b) what is the voltage trick for a Walbro??? setting it at a constant 12v or something or other.

Wouldve been nice to have a H/C on hand when I noticed the last bit but it should be here soon.

Feedback peeps??

from memory on my ECR33 the EXT is 5.0v and it is not highlighted

the PFC is throwing on the engine check light as the sensor is not connected or out of range

perhaps try feeding the EXT input on the PFC a dummy value or a fixed 5v value or something?

ill check what my ETC SENSOR SW CHECK looks like with a working exhaust temp sensor

you cant check the voltage the fuel pump on the hand controller

you can check if its runniing which is FP relay (black dot will be in it when its on)

and the appllicable relay which means run pump and pump fuel vs active circuit (FP1 from memory)

so at idle FP should be on and FP1 should light up when you tap the throttle, ie pump more fuel

the pump will get whatever voltage comes out from the battery / car

from memory in the ECR33 it's usually only 12 unless you hard wire it direct to the battery

then it gets 14v flat. the walbro's need as much voltage as possible to run in ideal as they are rated / flow tested / quoted at 14v or higher and in the ECR33 it nevers gets that voltage

i wouldnt expect 12v to make it run the car differently, but it would likely just cap your AFR's under max load at a given point - ie i wouldnt expect it to make it idle differnet, but it wouldnt be able to flow as much at full load vs 14v

Dave if you would like to borrow my hand controller your more than welcome as the car is just sitting at my place waiting on rebuilt turbo..

Doubt borrowing my actual computer will help as its the er34 model, but if you need it its yours too for a week or so.

Yeah the powerfC has some pretty weird idiosyncrasy,

ive had about 5 cases of plug in hand controller when running and car stalls, wont start and tunes are corrupt... reload tune and do it 5 mins later and its all good.

loading in base maps and the numbers being show are correct but car wont tune up right...... 3 or 4 pfc's. Have to open 2 sessions and cut and paste each map and write individually.

i was off site today so havent had achance to study the ecu pinout to trace the ac circuit yet sorry.

hey trent i remember this post from the other day and also i noticed a weird issue when i was testing BCNR33 powerfc on my ECR33 with a hacked loom

when the car was running i plugged in the hand controller and basically the car rebooted, the engine reprimed and like rebooted

it turns out in the apexi documentation they do NOT advise to plug/unplug while car is running...

FAQ.5 [unstable operation after the communication cable was pulled while the Ignition key was ON.]

The Idle Self Learning value may have been reset or the POWER FC internal circuit board may have been damaged.

Warning

Always make sure that the Ignition key is OFF whenever the communication adapter is being disconnected. Connecting/disconnecting the communication adapter when the Ignition key is ON may cause the POWER FC to initialize all data, reset self learning values, and ultimately damage the POWER FC unit and engine. Please use extreme caution.

I'm starting to wonder wether this problem is temperature related????

Again just an assumption, just seems as though at times the eng check light goes out out when the ambient temps drop a little like at sunset etc.

Paul or Trent, could you guys tell me what things I should look at for temp related things? Like for example if my thermostat was on it's way out would the PFC pick it up?

But then again on second thought how would using the ac have an effect on the check light....mmmmmmmm

Sorry if it's a noob question.

    • How's your first born doing? 😛 As for now what? Time to forget about it for 12 to 18 months while your go down a totally unrelated rabbit hole... 😛
    • Fuse taps are perfectly fine to use, especially when you're adding stuff for your own car, and so long as you're being smart about it. IE, don't throw a 30amp circuit, onto a circuit that is only a small circuit. It's best to add a small circuit, to one that is already quite large. Oh, and make sure you're not going to blow the fuses that are further upstream too! I dislike their use in other applications, such as alarms, telematics/tracking devices etc, as it's far too easy for someone to unplug them and render a system useless. Those sorts of devices I go for wiring in quite secretively.
    • Fob is all cleaned up and it’s working well!! The amount of Vegemite looking sh*t that was in there is mind blowing
    • Given it is temporary, I bought a  cheapy gauge mount (which has become enflattened) which I will screw into the existing phone mount Also a first for me; given this is a temporary install I could not think of any reason not to use one of those "add a fuse" thingies to source the battery and IGN power. I had always figured they were pretty dodgy but having a good look at them I think they are a valid option for sourcing power from an existing source without cutting
    • Finally for now, a bit more work on the transmission temp gauge. I was wondering how Raceworks do a gauge for $100 that autometer want $500 for. No idea about the accuracy of course, but they have cut a few corners that made things hard.  First one I mentioned above, the sender is physically difficult to fit and doesn't work with their own adapters (the extra fittings I used to get the sender into a hose cost more than the whole gauge, lucky I had stuff in the shed) Second, the temp sender wires are way too short. They are shown as 2.7m on the box and I know my routing was long from navigator headlight to driver's firewall back to centre console, but I had to lengthen them by about 2m total - 2 joins in each wire. Also, same with the supplied power loom, they needed about an extra 1m to get the fuse box where I sourced power. Another join in each wire since one end wasn't supplied terminated. I know they could argue that the wires might be long enough depending on situation, but when you consider parts and particularly labour, it would be a very expensive cheap gauge if you can't do the work yourself. And, only a small issue....but it would have been nice if they remembered to tap a tread onto *both* spacers they supplied for the bracket....I haven't had to use the M4 tap often!
