Hey guys! I'm new to this forum.

I'll be picking up a v35 this coming monday from the gold coast, i live in sydney, so i'll be flying up and driving it back down.

Since i'm up for a long drive(by myself) i thought it might be a good idea to have my iphone handy to keep me company for the 10 or so hour drive.

I was hoping if anyone in gold coast knows how to fit ipod plug ins on the standard system? it does have the bose sound system with no nav.

And also, cost and how long it takes to get it fitted. As i will be rushed to drive back down to sydney.

Any help would be great! thanks!

PS: hope to see some of you guys soon!

drive another hour north and I'll do it for you.

Chris, my name is Ben i have recently bought micahs v35. i believe you did the ipod docking station in it.

just wanting to know how to access the ipod through the tv? i was told to press the tv button and then press menu

on the remote controll then scroll down to the ipod section. problem is i cant get the remote to do anything on the screen(iv replaced the battery and stillnothing but a red light flashes on the control) could you please pm me a step by step guide on how to use the docking station?

thanking you in advance, Ben.

(sorry for taking over the thread but i cant pm yet)

Another option for you is to use an FM Transmitter with the iPhone and listen to your music through the radio. You'll no doubt want to fit an FM Extender anyway ($25 + fitting) to get the Aus radio stations at the high end. This is what I'm talking about: http://www.belkin.com/au/IWCatProductPage....oduct_Id=496747 . You can pick then up from JB HiFi for ~$140.

Of course, to integrate your iPhone would be much nicer though... ;)

Hey with this sort of device, doesn't it drop out so often? and sound quality not so good?

If ipod docks are too hard or expensive, is it possible to just fit a AUX plug?

how much and how long does it take?

take me about an hour to do. call me to confirm once you have picked up the car. . I prefer not to talk costs on a public forum but it will NOT be a FM based item and if you have the steering controls it WILL work off them. whlist you are here I'll do the FM radio as well.

aux plug is doable IF you have navi. other wise no go (easily.) what do you class as expensive?

call me from the car - easier than trying to explain it.

Hey Phat I have recently had my tv tuner converted, fm expander installed and I installed whats called a spec Doc for the Ipod. I have put a short video on to youtube to show how it works.

I also had the trip computer and stuff converted and the handbrake lock for TV disabled (illegal to drive while on in most states).

I am in Melbourne but I am sure Chris Rogers is the man to speak to in QLD if need to get converted.

Cheers,

Noel

Hey Noel,

This Ipod installation is awesome and i believe it works for iPhone as well isn't it? Could you please tell me where you got it done and what are costs involved. I'm from Melbourne and just recently bought a 01 V35. Not much interested in TV tuner conversion but will consider about it depends on costs. Any help would be much appreciated. :P

Hey Raween,

The ipod dock is called a Spec.Dock and i purchased from the US after seeing a few people on here had tried them. The site is www.Specdock.com and it was about $200 to purchase and then just install. There is two options, 1 lets you use your steering wheel controls and no video out, 2 lets you have video out but no steering wheel controls, I wanted video out so i went that option.

I live in southern suburbs and went to a place called Stylyn Car audio in Brighton. This was only because there is a Stylyn car audio on other side of town which everyone keeps talking about but if was just to far. The blokes name was Chad and he did my full install after never having done one before and he was extremely helpful and well priced. If you want any more info let me know.

Hey Noel,

Thanks so much for all the information. Just what i was as looking for. I live in southeast so Brighton would be OK for me . Can you please tell me how much did it cost you for spec.Dock installation? Or can we just do it by our selves?

And how much is the cost for TV tuner conversion? how much for the TV tuner and how much for the installation. Sorry cant PM yet because I'm still new here.

Cheers,

Raween

Hey Noel,

I looked at specdoc website and found few products. can you please tell me which one you are using. I want the one with video outs and no steering wheel controls same as yours. Here are the products i found.

Its the second one mate. It has the RCA outputs but these connect back to an aftermarket Asuka tv tuner in the boot which is piggy backing the stock tuner. So I am unsure if you can use the RCA without an aftermarket tuner. You would have to ask an expert which I am definately not. HAHA.

Good luck

Hey champ.

I haven't picked up the car yet, as the banks stuffed me around with finance. hopefully i can fly up this friday. i'll give you a call once ive picked up the car. that way i guess we can get into more detail.

Raween,

The installer (Chad) asked me not to say how much it cost as the cost can vary from car to car but I can say that he was extremely helpful and was very well priced.

I bought the Tuner second hand of a member on this site, I bought spec doc from the US, I bought cables from Chris Rogers and more from JAYCAR in Cheltenham.

I Think the whole thing including parts and install cost me around a $1000 and that also included Rianto doing the English menu conversion. So I thought this was very reasonable considering the TV now works, the Video and Audio from Ipod work and I have FM stations.

If you go down this path you will need:

Tv Tuner

Fm Band Expander (if not already done)

Spec Dock

Cable from Chris Rogers

Av leads to run from boot (new Tuner) to spec Dock

and another short av lead as the lead from Chris has female plugs and so does the old tuner which you have to link in to so you need a male to male cable to join them

If you decide you want to do it I can chat to you later on and tell you how it all hooks up and you can decide if you do yourself or pay installer. I just figured I did not know how to pull panels apart easily to run cables and new antennas nicely hidden away.

Cheers

Noel,

Thanks so much for all the information. Really appreciate it. :D I will first order the specdoc and then send you a message. I will probably end up getting it installed from Chad as I am not comfortable doing it by my self. Thanks again.

Raween.

    • I'm hoping I just don't have to do an engine rebuild NOW. Doesn't mean I won't do it at some point. I think a plus point is that the car presumably ran on or close to stock power nearly all it's life so far. Only the Owner I bought it from actually increased power with a standalone ECU and blew the OEM turbos. And after it got thee 2860s it wasn't driven an awful lot either.   That is what I meant. With the twins coming on so late (4500-5000rpm) I hope the rods won't want to exit the block prematurely. And it still being a 26 means the torque curve isn't gonna hike up all that much.   It didn't blow up on the dyno when they tuned it to 500ish crank. So I suppose it'll be okay for now. They did put a Tomei head gasket on first though which did not seal at all, and they redid it with a Cometic one. Which I hope won't be my water leak.   Mainly anything oil. So far all it has is the N1 pump, oil restrictor and a filter relocation kit with a cooler.
    • 15000? ish? Something like that anyway. It wasn;t so much a wear as a tear that then spread. Might have lasted a lot longer if not bothered by just one incident, whatever it was. I took a punt. They are really comfortable and do a good job of holding. My daughter HATED it when I first put them in, and probably still does now. She has sensory issues and hates the way they are all up your business. I'm 197cm and 95kg. Not fat or particularly wide, and the XL size seat is the rigth fit. If I was any fatter it would start to get too snug. Any skinnier and you'd possibly want the smaller width.
    • Mrs rs focus came factory with recaro cs  sportsters in it and they a pain in the ass to get in and out of with the really high bolsters, once you were in them they were one of the most comfortable seats I have ever sat in
    • The NA 2.5 has very little torque. You won't feel much. Those trannies are also a million years old now and it could well be f**ked. First generation electronically controlled autos will often refuse to kick down, ete, etc, depending on what's wrong with them.
    • Yes, but no but yes but no. Those "it's fine up to 500HP" rules and everything else like it were all determined back when the cars were 10 years old. As they are now 30 years old.....what do you reckon the chances of something shitting the bed are? I'd say they are much higher now than they used to be. You might be lucky. You might be unlucky. Spin the wheel and find out. Yeah, nah. It's actually exactly the opposite. Making boost early and having heaps of torque able to be generated right in the middle of the rev range will do more to damage an engine than having to rev it high to make the power. Think about the load on the conrods, bearings, etc, to make 400HP at 4000 rpm, vs 400 HP at 6500 rpm. So someone has already "let the Nissan out" which is how we describe the increased chance of a fiddled with engine to have had something done wrongly. Many more engines that have been opened die than stock ones do - even if you into consideration how they are treated wrt power levels and the like. Again, not saying that yours will definitely have been put back together by a moron. But the possibility does exist. It's still a lottery. Spin the wheel. What weakspots?
