hooray for sam's painting. If you guys are doin anything on sunday then I'll pop over n do some papparazzi shots of your car since I'll be in the area.

And might I add for those not in the know... the hand of samproduces paintjobs that are smoother than factory :) (oh and don't try n spot any defects on his paintjobs coz a) it'll tak e ya too long, and B) if you do find one he's a big well built fella) ;)

All the best regardless... and nice to see a pic with some of the goodies in. Quick question... is the white coating a gel like coating used to prep fibreglass ior is that just normal undercoat... its just a lil more glossy than what I'm used to it lookin like.

I don't really want to discuss this, because quite honestly, I don't really know... I'm not a panel beater :)

Being a layperson in the art of panel beating and repair, I can see straight away that your repair is a 110% quality job. What experience I've had with panel beaters has told me without any shadow of a doubt that they would NEVER do take this kind of time and effort on a normal repair job. It's all about fastest turnover, and that doesn't involve seam welding, magna spotting or wet sanding the paintwork... It involves bog, and lots of it ;)

I do however understand your point completely... In that you can't make sweeping generalisations like people do about cut 'n shuts being bad, as obviously there are some extremely highly skilled tradespeople doing tremendous jobs on cars such as yourself.

edit: Oh, and there's a world of difference between a habib and a dodgy habib :D

no its white high build primer,we use white to get a good reflection for the yellow....its been rubbed very smooth thats why is quite glossy. It would pay for you to call me before you come over just incase we dont go in...its looking a but crappy actually as i got called in for a job today and didnt get time to prep the car up for the weekend, but give us a call when your in the area

will do... also shouldn't you be waiting for a warmish day to paint the car instead of a cold one like on this weekend? I was told that paint dosen't set properly in damp overcast weather?

heres some more pics of the car.....as you can see its all one colour now.Whats happened is the panels have been painted off the car. Then the vehicles body was painted with the door openings in one shot, this lets us eliminate the tape off mark inside the door jam.In the picture the panels have been fitted and the door gaps adjusted next the doors and the bonnet will come off and the body will be rubbed down with 1200 sandpaper the same as you can see the door and the gaurd have been done. The vehicles body will be painted with the same 2K solid colour that has already been applied. This process is called flow coating. The advantages are the colour has a base thats the same colour so we dont have to worry about covering the vehicle anymore,we concentrate on getting the material to sit nice and flat, but you have to be extremely carefull not to get runs as painting over a 1200 sanded surface is like painting over glass. Its also gives the paint the thick glassy look. The doors will be hung up on stands as they sit on the vehicle and flowcoated the same way.I have painted the vehicle the first time but i will get sam from Onduty panels to flowcoat it as its been 12 mnths since i flow coated a car and sammy does them all the time so he wont **** it up!:D the guy is truly amazing

update car has been painted...tonight all the fittings will be done ...oh and i also got a new shiny powerpipe and silencer for my bike!!Its got tonnes of grunt now :) damn sik of gettine rained on from riding it everywhere tho...be glad to get the car going again...not long now! :D

yeah its still a goer...but after its all been painted dude...still havent done the parts...i owe you an appology on that!I been so busy these days

mate, not a problem. I understand you've been busy. I actually thought u wanted to do it BEFORE you painted the parts, got things a little muddled :P

I'm looking at getting a front bar (GTR) that actually fits straight onto the guards, only have to get the bonnet modified. So still prob need your help :P But definitely looks like the rear bar will be cut in half job. I've just found out how expensive it is to bring parts out. Yahoo prices are cheap, but then there are so many extras. But found some local front/rear bumpers.

Just give us a bell when you're ready.

I'm sure it will be good to get a roof over your head when you're on the roads, it's been a pretty decent winter so far (judging from the snow) :P

cheers.

    • Thanks for that Paul.  Do you think if I posted a picture you'd be able to remember where it went?
    • Sorry Duncan, I didn't get a notification for the replies.  Thanks for responding!  It's a full Android device, but does allow you to use CarPlay/AA as well.  This is the one I bought from NaviRS on AliExpress: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006368602668.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.111.59aa1802JDzQ0E - the 2K 8G-256G CAM variant but it seems to have gone up by £170 since I bought it!  My purchase was £307.14.   It's not the fastest thing in the world but performs perfectly adequately.  It stays on standby unless I disconnect the battery and let it power down, then it's just a fairly standard Android bootup time from cold.  The DSP Equaliser is very nice and made the standard stereo system sound pretty decent compared to the stock screen.  Perhaps I can take a video of it when I get a sec. It *allegedly* supports the reverse camera, but I'm yet to get that working.  It has options for reverse cam (a camera unit can be bought separately) or 360 cameras (also bought separately).  To be fair it doesn't seem to detect that the shifter was put into reverse but I'm working on a theory about this as well.  At the moment I'm going without which is a bit annoying considering the car is an absolute canal barge but so far I haven't caused any damage I'll grab a picture of the wire I'm missing later today when I can get outside.  My theory, by the by, is that not only is the head unit different, but the CANBUS network has different signals for the different years.  I think this because I have a spare AC panel from a newer Infiniti G37 (as opposed to my Nissan panel) which wouldn't control anything except the volume when I had it wired up with the stock system.  I'm going to throw it back in and see if the screen will respond to it.  I've just ordered an arduino CANBUS module so I can have a look at the signals going around the car and see if I can spot anything.  I'm thinking if I can work out what it's expecting vs what it's getting I might be able to translate and relay the signal back but so far just a theory anyway. I also found this on my travels, so far the only one that specifically matches my car: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002822934280.html?spm=a2g0s.imconversation.0.0.33433e5fgttovi If you look at the picture of the before, it has the card reader slot, and the picture of the head unit is exactly the same as the one pictured in my original post.  I asked if they sell the cables separately but sadly they won't.  I didn't want to just buy this one because it's a super old Android version and only dual core - likely slow as hell.
    • As above, you did refill the coolant and burp the system before running it again didn't you?
    • To be fair - you see the same thing for every clutch. There's always someone making an installation error.
    • Just saw this, redacted names. It's on a R33 GTS-t Facebook group. Looks like still teething issues.
