How many people actually got fined for $10,000? Can anyone provide details as to why they got fined $10,000? Is that a fine from the cops or from EPA? Was it on the spot or when you're going through the pit?

But again like everyone said, its not worth the risk with the amount of gain. I just asked the question out of curiousity as I reckon that kinda fine is a bit ridiculous especially when a defect fine is only $100.

So many people de-cat their imports....i just had the standard cat in there, unbloted it, bashed the guts of the car out with a screwdriver and put the cat back in. Made massive flames, like 2m long bright orange flames lol

harden up and run he de-cat- more power, a shitload cheaper and better turbo response

yes apparently its a 10k fine but how can they find out? we dont have EPA in perth

even then is a copper really gonna stick his head under your car? even then hows he gonna see if u've got a gutted cat they dont carry infared thermometers all they can do is 'suspect' u have no cat and then give u a yellow. if u go over the pits with a decat/no cat then u deserve the 10k fine, after u get a yellow u got shitloads of time to take it off.

it was said before, whos actually been done for not having a cat (in perth anyway)

-ive got a 3inch straight through pipe which has had a standard cat chopped in half and welded around it (cat temp sensor still screws into the shell) for sale as my cars written off u wanna buy it PM me (btw this was used for the track only not on the road)

Go run a GRiD backfire with decat in front of a cop car, and get back to us on your "yellow" sticker with a shitload of time before expiry....they can (and have done previously) given as little as 15 minutes on yellow stickers).

You'll get a RED sticker for that shit.

And EPA isn't necessary to get you into shit over here, go give it some juice at night time......we've all seen a de-cat'd car give it some juice at night, and the sudden bright flashes it can cause....that shit can cause short and/or long term damage to vision.

De-cat's are a stupid idea, they do f**k all for performance. 7hp, and what do you get? You can't have a decent conversation in your car, which you have to clean weekly thanks to unburnt fuel being all over the back of it.

    • I dunno man, that VX S with 200,000 k's is still hanging out for 1.5 I reckon the R34 is the better buy, personally.
    • Dang, doesn't even include on roads.
    • Only in a market where OBD was a thing. The rest of the world was quite happy to let the US EPA only affect US cars for quite a while. The* problem with datalogs is that unless you are very familiar with what every trace should look like, on their own and as an ensemble, you can and will see weird shit that can and will lead you astray, not realising that what you are seeing is the normal consequence of various transient inputs. *Really, "a" problem, as there are of course many other problems too. Look, these cars are so bloody simple that if it is missing or stumbling, the obvious thing is to break out the old mental diagnostic list and just go do all the things that you know you should. After proving that the plugs are clean and sound, ditto the coil stalks, coils, loom connectors, etc, and then making sure that there is fuel pressure at about the right numbers (while driving!, not while sitting in the garage free blipping it), then maybe you go looking at AFM voltages, manually testing the igniter, putting a scope on the CAS, etc. Then you're into pulling the injectors for a spray pattern look-see and perhaps a clean, squirting carby cleaner around the inlet manifold looking for leaks, and all the more annoying and esoteric, but still common as muck faults that these things have. I wouldn't ever bother looking at the trims, as they are usually bullshit on these old clunkers anyway.
