Again I will say "WHY THE F@%K DO YOU THINK EMISSIONS TESTING CAME IN AND WONT GO AWAY" it is because of various reasons including De-Cat pipes, some people need to grow a brain and think about what they are doing.

You know it is illegal but you continue to participate in actions that make it hard for everybody, De-Cat pipes for imports are readily advertised and available along with people who think they make more power.

People think imports are targeted for no reason even though they are the cars driving around with black smoke covering the rear bar.

Guys.

De-cat / Flames is NOT a YELLOW sticker.

It's a RED sticker.

And $10k on the spot fine is correct. Go look it up.

Jailtime is a possibility....not for decat, but shoot a bright white flame out, and f**k someone's car up, temporary blind them and cause them to lose control of vehicle and crash and/or die....you can garuantee you're going down for a bit more than a just a sticker.

lol red sticker. Id love to see you back that one up.

i'm actually not debating whether it's morally/legally correct to run a cat or not..

i simply hate the mis-information spread on the internet about cars and the laws, especially if it's to the point where people are talking about going to jail for a modification to a car, usually i wouldn't post but it annoyed me that much.. i like the fact there's been no link to this $10g fine for individuals.. and that somehow you'd get charged with some unknown offense if you were to ask a workshop to replace your cat with a pipe..

y'all realise you have to commit a criminal offense to be incarcerated, right? and no, the ridiculous scenario someone put forward is not realistic, nor is actually getting caught and charged for it if it were to actually happen

for the record, i run a cat on my car.. and guess what.. my car still backfires and pops an occasional flame.. oh shit, call the police, i might blind someone and kill schoolchildren!

Okay... Clarity on the actual law is needed here.

Hypothetically speaking, in 1986-1992 you could have be fined $10,000 and/or serve 6 months imprisonment as an individual under the Western Australian Environmental Protection Act. This never happened to an individual with a decat...

The above act has never been applied to any automotive circumstance. (Well, non that have been publicly reported)

A review of the act in 1992 see's penalties based on a 3-tier system with fines/imprisonment determined on a case-by-case basis.

I've simplified it to an extend to highlight the conjecture about certain 'facts' in this thread. Obviously, it is much more elaborate and circumstantial but has no bearing in this instance.

:P

decat pipes do make more horsepower, 7 more in fact as someone said previously

imports aren't targeted for no reason, they are a car that 98% of the time is modified and its easy for a piggy to slap a sticker on it

your rear bar will only be covered in black 'smoke' (its unburnt fuel and carbon) if you dont wash your car for months

remember lads its only illegal if you get caught :P

not having a dig here, but have u seen a white flame/flash from a decat before? ive only ever seen orange colored backfires like a normal lighter and sometimes fast n furious spec blue flames - like a jet lighter but nothing intense enough to blind someone like a welding flash, if anything id say H.I.D headlight are worse - and 90% of imports have them.

i personally dont think its THAT big of a deal, if it was it would be ILLEGAL full stop to let it into the air intentionally like aircon gas (r134a and r12) or atleast have stricter laws.

how come track cars dont need cats? its still going into the same atmosphere, now i know some smartass dikhead is gonna come out and say 'but bro are you saying my lawn mower need a cat?' but you get the point hopefully

japan has way stricter emissions laws then us they gotta get rid of there cars at every 100,000kms or something dont they? what if we had laws like that would u agree? if u dont would u agree if u flew over to japan? coz then you would be a rebel and going against there laws right? what if u lived in a dirty third world country where there are no real transport laws would u run a cat for the hell of it?

I've seen sudden bright white flames many times. It's more common with gutted cats or high flow cats, where as no cat all together tends to burn more fuel so the burn lasts longer.

HIDs are still illegal on most cars due to the fact they're not aimed properly and are not self-correcting.

Track cars / lawnmowers do not make use of WA/Australian Roads. We're talking about rules applied to road cars.

Correct - Japan's system is every 5 years or 100'000km, a car is subject to have its motor rebuilt and pass an emissions test, which is the reason Japan has such a high export of cars with low KMs. I agree with Japan's system all the way, as for third world countries, depends on which country and what their laws are, why don't you stop asking retarded questions? is it because you are retarded? you because you like putting 90 questions in the same sentence? huh? huh? yeah!

As for red sticker, I didnt meant the sticker they have over East, which is the same size as the yellows. Red sticker = big flamin mongrel sticker on the windshield, and your plates become void on the system until it passes pits.

ok, well the chances of a ceffy's engine being over 5years/100,000kms old is pretty likely so why have u still got it in the car? sounds retarded to me

When did I ever suggest I follow another country's road/vehicle rules ?

I agree they way they so shit over there is alot better than here in Australia, doesn't mean I live by their system.

One Ceffy has an R34 NEO motor, the other has no motor/box at all.

I agree with Japan's system all the way

if u believe in something, u do it dont u? why should u listen to what other people tell you to do. im referring to the laws now

u cant come on here and rant on about people not running cats and how bad and dangerous they are and then say the only reason u feel that way is because thats the law in the country u live in. like i said before if u lived in a shithole of a country where u dont have to run a cat i can guarantee i wouldnt run a cat. yes technically u are following the law but it doesnt make sense does it - its still going into the same atmosphere.

im just trying to say the system is shit, too many loopholes, ill refuse to run a cat when pre 197x vehicles that are ROAD REGISTERED and that put out a shitload more emissions then my skyline can drive on the roads without cats, fair enough?

Some people think various sicko shit shouldn't be illegal, if they took your point of view what ever they personally thought was ok be it against the law or not is fine.

It is illegal to release Air Con gas freely, it is even controlled coming into the country, no R12 for ages, you may of course correct me if I am wrong but we dont spend $3,000 on a pre-charged equipment licence for the hell of it.

In Japan it is rigorous road tests and high depreciation making vehicles worth very little after six years, and strict environmental laws make vehicle disposal expensive.

If you had some reasoning to your comments it would help to get your point across but it is honestly just dribble with no structure for a descent point of view.

Maybe I insist on running a cat, not down to any countries laws, but down to I don't want to be an asshole contributing to f**king up this planet.

Yes, I'll die long before the last tree on this Earth falls, but that's no reason to not give a shit.

No, I'm not wearing a rainbow, smoking week, driving a VW Van and chain myself to tree's in my spare time, before you ask.

Pre 197x vehicles dont have air bags, why don't you remove yours?

Pre 197x have lower standards for power/brake capacity ratio's, why don't you downgrade to single pot + 250mm?

Because you're vehicle is NEWER, it is much more effecient in alot of ways, it's faster, it's a smarter design. Don't be a douche by dragging it back to 30 year old standards.

Your catalytic convertor was fitted to your vehicle for a reason, thought out by engineer's for alot longer than you thought "how can I get more power out of my fully sick D1 daily??"

Where did I ever suggest you go to jail merely for having no cat.

I said if your decat f**ks up someone's eyesight and/or car and causes an accident, then you're in shit.

Are there any actual cases of people being blinded by decats?? It sounds about as dangerous as the deadly pod filters that the media were spoofing on about a while back, unless your dumb enough to stick your eye to an exhaust pipe I can't see how it would ever happen.

I seriously doubt you could be held accountable for another drivers stupidity if they should happen to swerve off the road. If your reactions are to swerve whenever you are surprised you should not be driving

I have a decat.

I'm a poorkunt and can't afford a high-flow cat. I run a decat to suffocate babies, rape single mothers, set fire to old people, blind and deafen as many children as I can, AND let's not forget - I'm the reason fuel prices are so high because the excess flow I actually get makes me run rich and smash more juice down.

I've been stickered AND caught-out with a decat pipe by police actually sighting the pipe. Twice.

I didn't receive any fines for said pipe. But it is illegal, and I am actually going to hell for it.

Twice.

If I get fined or imprisoned for having it, I will cop it on the chin.

Moralfags can bitch all they want. My car runs better with a decat than it will EVER run with a cat.

News for you guys - every now and then, I run AVGAS.

verne-troyer-mini-me-austin-powers-flipping-the-bird.jpg

Try running avgas through a cat.

    • Hey all, I'm sorry if this has been discussed before.  I have a 2008 Japanese import V36 coupe with nav but without Bose. I bought one of those AliExpress android screens, which for the most part works really well.  The only thing that doesn't work is the air con controls (well sort of) and the factory reverse camera.  The AC can be controlled fine but it doesn't report the change in temp and mode to the screen, and the volume knob/other audio controls from the panel don't register on the learning app.  I am pretty certain that the problem is the difference in the head unit between base model (Nav but no Bose) 2007-2009 coupes and anything after 2009.  Mine is the one with the blue connector all the way to the right as seen in this forum post:  The reason I think this is there is one wire left over that doesn't fit anywhere on this head unit, or in the factory screen which also uses different connectors to more recent versions.  I've seen the upgrade from OWC, and have sent the guy a message on eBay but no response yet.  I also don't particularly need the whole kit, just *maybe* an adapter for this one cable.  Did anyone else here have the same problem, or have any insight about what I can do to get this working?  I have been in contact with the seller but all they seem to be able to do is ask for more pictures and videos. Minor edit to add:  I have been researching and found a screen on Aliexpress that actually specifies my head unit in the listing, so these things do exist.  I will contact the seller to see if the wiring adapters are interchangeable with other screens.   Thanks in advance!
