wow have i stumbled into a thread full of people who own stock skylines?

no one has -external wastegates, screamer pipes, bov's & catch cans that vent to atmo, charcoal canisters taken out, engine bays with air breathers and gutted cats?

and i thought i was the only one :P

All you stumbled across are people who them self or the so called workshops that build these cars don't know how to build/tune a car correctly.

If you cant get it 100% legal, at least build it with the required ADR parts fitted or back to TAFE you go,

you wont get any flames with a proper tune with or without a decat pipe.

my old 30e wagon popped flames all the time with a cat. got a decat now (was in the car when i got it you whiney tree huggers) and its never once popped a flame, even when i had a stock ecu running super rich

haha some people.

about taking my airbags out. that was a really bad example, u say it like getting a cat welded into a pre 197x vehicle will take years and years of research, but when u actually use ur brain and think about it, its no harder then installing a cat into any other vehicle.

nick - u said that u like to follow what u believe in and u wanna help the environment so u run a cat seeing as its legal to, u also say u believe in japans emmsions laws but ur also running an engine thats over 5 years old which would be illegal if u lived in japan (r34s are over 5 year old buddy if u cant count)

ill run a decat if i want, tell me otherwise and ill tell u to suck a fat one, if i get caught out ill quite happily take it on the chin

theres a lot of countries where people dont need to run cats, and according to u some of you guys there doing nothing wrong they're just following the law, yet im doing the EXACT same thing and im some sort of f**khead?

and honestly who are u mate? king of the tuners or something

pretty sure every workshop in perth has tuned a car without a cat at one point, so they're all doing it wrong are they? i better tell them to all close down coz they're wrong and your right coz u get all ur info from internet forums

hey guys just wondering if you get in big trouble if you get caught with a decat?
I have a decat.

I've been stickered AND caught-out with a decat pipe by police actually sighting the pipe. Twice.

Enough said, questions been answered, close thread.

You tell them but why would a workshop listen to a 20 year old who knows everything about being an auto electrician but nothing about why emission laws are in place.

If you think it is 5 years and export from Japan or it is illegal well learn a bit about imports before making comment or go back to your Mazda Eunos.

dude ur the one that thinks u know everything and no-one out there can tune cars, im just expressing my opinion and ur going NO NO THATS WRONG

and if u actually did ur research u would find that the 5 year comment came from ur mate nik and not me

can u answer as to why pre 197x vehicles dont need cats? its because they cant be fked.... its too hard. yes it easier to put out a scare tactic and say we'll fine u 10,000 + if u remove ur cat, but if it doesnt have one to start with its ok. and its not too hard to do, what did the government do recently that $1000 rebate on house insulation what if they did that to every vehicle that isnt registered with a cat because obviously its not gonna bolt straight in and the owner isnt gonna wanna pay a few hundred dollars to make they're car slower (like me)

btw thats my opinion im not saying thats how it is, so let me know what u think. or are u just gonna make irrelevant insults and try and call me immature? btw im 18

Srsly gays, even if all the import drivers in Australia drove around without a cat, the damage to the environment is negligible compared to the emissions coming out of places like China, India, Pakistan etc.

Hell, you don't even have to run cats in NZ and they're supposed to be developed like us.

Pick a worthwhile cause to whinge/fight about.

Close this thread already, the misinformation and pure dickheadry floating around in here is amazing.

That's true but we have to start somewhere and developing nations will have to address their emissions eventually.

It all comes down to cost for the poorer nations as they want and are entitled to mobility but the cost of emission reduction would mean the difference walking or driving.

Who are we to say they can't have a little of what we have.

But we here are fortunate in that we can afford to make a choice for the good of all yet we choose to remove emmission gear for the perceived benifits.

To pollute in the poorer countries is how it is and they have no choice

To pollute in Australia when there is a choice is irresponsible despite how you try to justify it.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and this is mine right or wrong.

This has been a good thread just a shame people have resorted to personal insults

Pretty good point right there.

But still, I think man made carbon emissions equates to less than 1% of the total global warming thing. Most of it is natural causes doing all the green house gasses effect. The ricer hoon fags people, including me, who choose to run a decat are having no f**king effect on carbon emissions on a global scale.

No. f**king. Effect.

Yeah it could be a cyclic event that we have no control over. Even the great brains can't prove it either way.

Thing is mankind is a virus on this earth...just too many of us and we're breeding at an alarming rate. Mother nature will find a way to sort that out for us anyway.

To give an idea of the expotential population explosion it's a fact that over half of the people that ever existed (Adam/Eve or Darwins version)are alive today.

The maths of that sort of shoots down those who think they've been Pharohs, Samurais and Einstein in previous lives :P

Bloody reincarnationist hippies!

I don't buy in to the whole "global warming" thing, I do appreciate that we are using up natural resources at a faster rate than they can be replaced but as an individual there's not a whole lot I can do about it.

I firmly believe that the best "we" can do is limited to our immediate surroundings, live your life how you want but try not to affect your environment or fellow humans in any adverse way. If everybody lived like this then every little bit would add up to a lot.

That is the creed I follow and I don't need religions, politicians or hippies to tell me how to do it.

Unfortunately, we are severely outnumbered by people who either don't care (and I'm really one of them, if it doesn't immediately affect my little world, I don't really care too much) and those who care too much which impinges on MY right to live my life how I want.

SKYRAIAN driving around with no cat is nothing compared to the damage BP has done to the ecosystem by dumping billions of barrels of oil into the sea. Then there are the millions of diesel powered farm equipment throughout China that are belching unmetered particulates into the atmosphere. That is just the tip of the iceberg.

A pissy little country like Australia trying to take a big stance on carbon emissions is ridiculous and a waste of our time and effort unless the WHOLE WORLD follows suit, which isn't going to happen. Things will continue to go downhill faster than we (Australians) can counter it.

What IS going to happen, is that our society will die out sooner rather than later.

Whether that happens before, or after, the swap of the poles, remains to be seen :P

In Early 1970s they became standard (over a preiod of time, which I believe by early 1980s ALL vehicles were required to run a catalytic convertor, the only exception to date being vehicles running solely on LPG and CNG)

Read ADRs.

All hail to Communism & Chair man Mao! :P

Well on average Earth has a mass extinction every 62 million years & we are already 3 million years over due...

    • Very decent bit of kit. Definitely black it out I reckon.
    • Because people who want that are buying euros. The people with the money to buy the aftermarket heads and blocks aren’t interested in efficiency or making -7 power, they’re making well over 1,000hp and pretty much only drive them at full throttle  best way to way make money is know your customer base and what they want and don’t spend money making things they don’t want.
    • It's not, but it does feel like a bit of a missed opportunity regardless. For example, what if the cylinder head was redesigned to fit a GDI fuel system? It's worth like two full points of compression ratio when looking at modern GDI turbo vs PFI turbo. I'm pretty reliably surprised at how much less turbo it takes to make similar power out of a modern engine vs something like an RB26. Something with roughly the same dimensions as a -7 on an S55 is making absolutely silly power numbers compared to an RB26. I know there's a ton of power loss from things like high tension rings, high viscosity oil, clutch fan, AWD standby loss, etc but it's something like 700 whp in an F80 M3 vs 400 whp in an R33 GTR. The stock TF035HL4W turbos in an F80 M3 are really rather dinky little things and that's enough to get 400 whp at 18 psi. This just seems unwise no? I thought the general approach is if you aren't knock limited the MFB50 should be held constant through the RPM range. So more timing with RPM, but less timing with more cylinder filling. A VE-based table should accordingly inverse the VE curve of the engine.
    • I've seen tunes from big name workshops with cars making in excess of 700kW and one thing that stood out to me, is that noone is bothering with torque management. Everyone is throwing in as much timing as the motor can take for a pull. Sure that yields pretty numbers on a dyno, but it's not keeping these motors together for more than a few squirts down the straight without blowing coolant or head gaskets. If tuners, paid a bit more attention and took timing out in the mid range, managed boost a bit better, you'll probably see less motors grenading. Not to name names, or anything like that, but I've seen a tune, from a pretty wild GT-R from a big name tuner and I was but perplexed on the amount of timing jammed into it. You would have expected a quite a bit less timing at peak torque versus near the limiter, but there was literally 3 degrees of difference. Sure you want to make as much as possible throughout the RPM range, but why? At the expense of blowing motors? Anyhow I think we've gone off topic enough once again lol.
    • Because that’s not what any of them are building these heads or blocks for. It’s to hold over over 1000hp at the wheels without breaking and none of that stuff is required to make power
