my flatmate bought it a few weeks ago.. he was less than impressed. so i had a good crack at it the other day. farkin rubbish.

but then when compared with gran turismo.. what isnt?

i find that when video game companies make an official licensed product like this, they seem to be relying mainly on the fact that its an official licensed and endorsed product of whoever they make it for, to sell it. and make very little effort to actually make the game itself any good. movies are a prime example, film companies will go and make movies, then someone gets the idea to make a quick buck by slapping together some horse shit video game based on any given movie, slap the name on it, ship it out, and if the movie does good then the game might sell too. but the game always sucks ass? anyone else ever noticed this?

F1 is kinda doing the same thing with the games market IMO. i've played several of them over the years and i've never been impressed.

see now i i get what you are saying. i love GT, and hate a lot of other racing games because they handle like crap. but then the older games like NFS were fine because the handling was that unrealistic that it was still good. then the NFS games started to try and get serious. i think pro street was the first one to go like this from memory. the handling on it was terrible.

yea despite being a mad keen GT bundy i still enjoy the old need for speeds. GT is for when you wanna take your racing seriously, with realistic driving dynamics etc. where as need for speed was fully arcade style, and designed to be just that, it was excellent in its own right. im talking about the likes of unleashed/unleashed 2/most wanted. i've briefly played prostreet thought it was crap though. maybe i needed to give it more of a chance.

i just cringe at games like forza that are blatantly aiming for gran turismo and fall so far short its a joke.

microsoft was obviously desperate to claim an exclusive "simulation" franchise of its own to steal some thunder from ps3, once they realised how much gravitational pull GT had when it came to selling consoles

If anyone hasnt played F1 Championship Edition, Hire it out and see how much better codemasters could have made it

If they had implemented the HUD and Official timing graphics etc I think it would have been much better. IMO the look of everything wrecks the game. It is not a bad racing game but its just been poorly presented. So if you look past all that I'd say most F1 fans would enjoy it

Updated it today.. I found it has made a world of difference!

However, I agree with the sentiments that it could've been so much more, I guess the good thing with GT5 is that when it is eventually released and in the belly of all our playstations, I doubt very much that we will be left wanting. Not too place it on so high a pedestal, but I think that Polyphony, unlike MOST other developers, will leave NO stone unturned in order to make the best game possible!!

as much as I think GT5 will be great

part of me thinks there will be a couple of people going..... "we waited all this time for this?"

It will be good I have no doubt, but with all the delays its been through. It would want to be amazing. But more then happy for it to exceed all expetations :D ill be buying it anyway

I think there will be a hell of a lot of people thinking/saying "we waited so long for this?" i will more than likely be one of them. i know it will be good, but for the ammount of delays it better give me a handjob everytime i play it

  • 3 weeks later...

Anyone think the update (about 3 weeks ago?) only made things worse

My game was fine but now I have opposition pitting twice on 20% race distance and instead of having my lap times each lap in the top left, Its now the total time and how far people are behind me?

Seems weird

I liked F1 CE and the ITV icons/timing etc. Much nicer

    • I’ve got one on mine and it’s fine,
    • No, you don't want to plug the vacuum line, as that will turn that side of the booster into an air spring and probably make it feel worse. I'm not saying that the GTR master itself doesn't need a booster. I haven't paid attention to the GTR one to know what size it is cf the non-GTR ones. But when you think about it - they have to do the same job, which is to move a little slave piston a few mm to do what it is supposed to do, and that final action is the same on all the cars. So, it is very unlikely that the GTR MC is any different than the others, because it has the same pedal stroke and the same output requirement. The booster just makes it feel easier. I'd suggest you probably have an actual hydraulic problem. It's totally common on these old shitboxes.
    • Ye, in terms of bolting up the "Conversion" from a GT to a GTT is effectively "Use GTT parts for everything" Except the subframe itself, because you won't want a HICAS/4WS subframe. Remember your ABS system will be different too, thanks to GT being the S15 3 sensor system, instead of the R34 4 sensor system for wheel speed. I do not know how people get this to work given R34 diffs do not have a provision for an ABS sensor (they are on the tone wheels of the axles). I assume***** people use S15 gear/R34NA forever when they realize this - Or they convert it to a rear diff/axles that are R33 style which I presume has the singular speed sensor on the diff itself, but then you have to wire it all in and...and... and...
    • Foreshadowing was never so easy.
    • The ones in brackets are the first stages of tightening. I usually aim for the middle of the range. They give a range because it's actually not that critical to hit exactly the right bolt tension. Enough is enough, and too much is too much, and the range given is inside that range. Half of the bolts in the suspension are problematic for putting a torque wrench on anyway, so just get done up to mechanic tight  and spanner checked a week later.
