Finished tuning the little old RB20 last night using 50% CSR E85 and 50% BP98 mix (to make a E42.5) and was very surprised by the torque... Power was just under what I was hoping for but still very plenty for chirping 3rd.

Car mods as follows

K&N Filter

Z32 Afm

China cooler and piping

Deatschwerks 750cc injectors

Motor dead stock

Hypergear ATR43G3 0.63 internal gate on standard manifold

Full 3" exhaust

Walbro 255L/hr pump

Running 22psi on the E42.5

399.5hp or 298kw and 523.1Nm

Very nice :D And fairly consistent with one I tuned late last year, "unknown" T3/T4 on stock manifolds and a GTSLink running GTR Injectors and a Walbro fuel pump on 20psi, using E33 fuel.

Do you have a boost curve? Looks like a real interesting shape "curve".

I can get one pretty easily... It ramps hard hits about 24psi then drops back off to a dead flat 22psi till redline!

Hits a brick wall at that power, thus the flat top end of the curve

Ah yep, thought that might be the case (hitting 24 and dropping back) - was going to ask, as the one we did sortof hit around 17psi and crept up to 20psi... hence having a bit more of a peaky looking curve. We were working with a 2.5bar MAP sensor so 20psi was about the highest we felt safe going to, still makes for a hell of a quick car though :D

Its got the correction setup to flywheel..... its all flywheel measurements.... not wheel measurements

ooh and the correction is set to SAE which is an older measurement (gives about 5-8% inflation) switch it across to SAE 2004 (latest rating)

Will only actually be flywheel if they have something in the TCF field, the result I posted was axle power and I'd imagine if we had a 40%+ blend and were running 22psi we'd be at least as high as he was making. We had absolutely no hint of running out of flow and had a bit less lag, which is interesting as we were running a fairly quick run rate too.

Without any correction it was 393hp so more like 1.5%

Hehe nice - sorry just trying to work out what to paint mine - me likey - you've pretty much nailed the dark green I had in my head.

What sort of max duty are the 750 injectors running at with the ethanol blend?

Wow that's laggy for an RB25 making 300rwkw. :\ An RB25 making 300rwkw should have way more than 2500rpm of usable torque!

Its not the most responsive turbo. Well compare to a GT3076 .82 with same boost. I think its not too bad. Unless if you run E85 and cam gears. There is nothing installed on it that can advance the turbo's response or power output.

Sigh... Thats not really a useful comparison. You can clearly see the GT3076 setup has notable issues.

Is there any surge on it Simon? Looks like its building and then just tapers a tad early on the climb up.

Something my 600hp GT30 did, it wasn't really audible eithe which didnt help to workout

Are you talking about between 5000-5250?!?

    • The new project has arrived. I have wanted one of these for such a long time, well before that meathead Clarkson drove one in Africa. I really wanted an E34 but I have some medical issues that mean I *really* can't bump my head and the lack of airbags in the E34 made it just too big of a risk.  I don't know why I've always liked these older touring BMW's to be honest, but man I love this car. She's been pretty well maintained for her 243k's with what appears to be only a single oil leak at the oil filter housing gasket. It has a bunch of updates including later model bumper and headlights, 7 series billion-way adjustable seats and it came with a few spares and another set of wheels with legal tyres. I got a unregistered car permit from the RTA and drove it back from Canberra on Saturday.                   First cab off the rank is cleaning it up for blue slip. I dont know how picky they'll be but I figured I'd clean the headlights, fix the oil filter housing gasket, replace the speed sensors (throwing errors) and swap the OE wheels (the M Sport wheels have a big chunk out of one of the tyres.) I also need to replace all 6 gas struts - 2 for bonnet, 2 for hatch and 2 for hatch glass. The car tries to eat me whenever i open any of these. My plan for this car; Ultimately, this is a budget car. I can't afford to throw lots at it and its because I have another car that I got this, if something breaks its no big deal. I will just maintain and repair it really. But eventually I want to do a manual conversion. It actually looks pretty straight forward for E39's and the trickiest part will be sourcing the parts.  I do need to replace some suspension arms or bushes because wow, she's a floaty old girl. She's also fantastically slow. Like really, really slow. When pulling back out on to the freeway on Sat after a quick pull over I needed to wait until no cars were visible before going.  Oh, and the guy I bought it from had a gorgeous R31 GTS-X in the garage.
    • Do you have a picture? I assume it is a breather for gearbox oil as it expands, it should have a vacuum line run nice and high in the engine bay (R32 GTR has it on a top bellhousing bolt)
    • Hi all, I am putting an r33 gtst gearbox into a VL and have noticed what looks like a vacuum barb on the box (on top in the middle). Suspecting that it's a vacuum line but I'd like to double check, if someone could confirm the function of that would be great. Cheers in advance.
    • I’d love to find some where that can recover the dashes to look brand new and original. Mine has a very slight bubble, nothing compared to some I’ve seen though
    • $170K. I asked one of the guys there as a joke if that price was just for the passenger seat as it was where the price sheet was... he tried really hard to crack a smile 😄 He also mentioned that every single part of the car was inspected and either restored or replaced with a new or as new part, or made from scratch. The interior was incredible, every inch like a new car.
