hi guys i am about to do the 100,000 km service on my stagea and was wondering if all the RB motors use the same water pump. im pretty sure the RB26 is the only motor that is different.

i am sourcing all my parts through my uncles workshop but some of his part books are a bit old.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

you will need a NEO (R34 Gtt) water pump, different(and dearer) to standard rb25 rb26, part #21010-AA527.

is there anything in particular that makes the NEO engine water pump different to the others.

i imported my car from synergy a few years ago and while i was in there last week they said they use standard RB25 R33 water pumps as the only difference was a 10mm locator bolt hole was missing.

just trying to save some money if possible as RB30/25 water pump i can get for about $80.00

from what ive read, Nissan addressed some water flow issues with earlier pumps with higher flow at mid range rpm on the NEO pumps through their redesign. I suppose its like oil, whatever the budget can allow, but NISSAN wouldn't have redesigned it without a reason.

Given the work required to change it - you'd be silly not to do it at the 100,000km service time.

Your belts are off and you've drained the coolant anyway to remove the radiator ... its just so easy to do the waterpump too at the same time.

I am doubtful tho about the Neo waterpump being different. Is there a link to some info confirming this?

NEO pump is different, its been covered a million and some more times

How is it different? Where is the source? I'm trying to find specs but they don't exist. Just spoke to Nissan and even they don't know how they are different.

What I have found is:

Part #21010-70TY5 ($110) - for R32 GTST

Part #21010-58S25 ($120) - for R32 GTR

Part #21010-21U26 ($175) - for R33 GTST/GTR, R34 GTR, and series 1 Stagea

Part #21010-AA527 ($260) - for R34 GTT, series 2 Stagea

Part #21010-24U27 ($380) - for N1 Skyline GTR

Note: they say "for" not "fit", so you could interchange.

More info sourced from guys who've done the comparison overseas with pics ...

One source claims the standard RB25DET pump appears shallow, whereas the Neo water pump is deeper, but there is no comment on the blade design/difference. No pics were available to back it up.

Below is an N1 water pump vs OEM RB25DET pump. Blades are obviously different:

The N1 flows less than OEM for a balanced high RPM setup.

The OEM flows more than N1 and is good for street and light track time.

Above is the N1 compared to an EOM Neo pump.

One source says the NEO pump looks like Nissan addressed the flow issue they were having at mid-high RPM (again, no pics/evidence to support this).

So ... best way to solve the argument is to get our hands on the 3 types of pumps (OEM RB25, OEM RB25 Neo, N1) and measure volume/capacity/depth, and blade specs and take pics.

So who's got some spare waterpumps lying around? :P

The only difference I know about is in the positioning of one of the mounting bolts. Some aftermarket pumps cater for this by having a slot there so it will fit all applications. Pumps are supposed to be good for 200.000 so if you are confident about the speedo reading and pump is OK you could leave it til the next belt but if you think speedo may be wound back then change the pump anyway.

If I'm not wrong, the N1 will fit most variants due to that oval shaped hole. As mentioned above, its the mounting bolts thats different. I'm not 100% sure though. Lesser blades on the N1 was for more flow? isnt it? If they're all spining at the same RPM, the one with lesser blades should flow more.

    • Howdy friends, So another weird one today, I was looking into replacing some broken clips holding the front grille for the R32 GTR (part number 01553-03831), and noticed the brackets which are supposed to hold the grille in place were also missing 😑. I do recall seeing this issue many years ago, but didn't fix it at the time. A quick look on eBay and I was able to find the genuine brackets, along with all the screws which suited the headlights (part numbers 26042-08U05,26092-08U05). Happy days!....  Once they arrived however there was an extra nut in the packaging which implied that there should also be a bolt or a stud, and sure enough, after a bit of searching I found this thread from 2013, and @Ants clearly shows a stud should be present. Reading around a bit more, it's possible the headlights on my car are the "povo pack" headlights as mentioned by @funkymonkey in this thread way back in 2008. This could explain why the studs are missing on my set of headlights. Looking at the headlight diagram I wasn't able to see a suitable part number for the stud itself. The headlight did indeed have a recess that looked like it would accept a stud, but interestingly no thread or anything obvious how the stud would be affixed to the headlight, I suspect it may have been glued in, press fit, or melted into the plastic at the factory. Another member may be able to clarify if they happen to have a genuine set of N1 headlamps. The only thing we have to work with within the recess is a keyway which likely is there to prevent the stud from rotating within the recess. In any case, back to 3D printing, I put together a model which acts like a pug with a friction fit inside this recess, making use of the keyway so it doesn't rotate while tightening a bolt. Printing in TPU will allow it to slightly swell making a nice snug fit without cracking the part. I've designed the adaptor it to accept an 20 mm M6 bolt (stainless with a cap head in my case), as opposed to the standard M5 stud and I made use of the standard galvanised split washer that came with the genuine brackets from Nissan. Once the bolt and screws were all in place, giving the bracket a gentle shake gave the classic "shaking the car" feeling, very solid, which gives me confidence this is going to be able to hold on much better than the janky solution which seems to have been here for the past decade or so. Overall I'm really pleased with how this turned out and maybe there are more people out there running these headlights without a centre stud at all!     • Hey everyone, This is my first post apart of the introduction. I tried searching a bit on the forum but couldn't really get a straight answer. I got the car to my mechanic as I felt it being weak. It seems that it was missing on two cylinders due to the injectors. I had all my injectors clean and the car runs much better. The mechanic also confirmed my suspicions that the cat is clogged and needs to be tackled asap. The cat rattles a bit and the hot exhaust warning frequently lights up when driving after getting the injectors clean. In my introduction I was asked about what modification I might be interested in and mentioned a cat delete. From what I was told, this is not really beneficial on the RB20DE and there are more cons than pros.  Could perhaps anyone give some suggestions on what the best course of action would be since the current cat is toast and needs to be removed/replaced anyway? I can also sometimes smell a strong smell of fuel, but I'm not sure if this is related.

    • When I was replacing my pump due to being stranded in the wrong state, I went with the Deatschwerks 320lph kit. It is a direct plug in to the stock wires, harness, everything.
