HAHAHA ..funny but so true....i got licence made from India...never driven there and only reason i wanted one was just coz and if i go back there to visit my family i rather drive than get driven....I got that made for 100 bucks...money works well there man...LOVE IT!!!!

you dont know the shit i went through to get my licence in singapore mate, f**ken $450 (about 380aud), and that's just the testing.

would like to visit india one day.

Its about $2,500 - $3,500 to get your licence in Germany... So i think what we pay and what others pay is relatively mild. Mind you they dont have to repay every 5 years just to "hold" their licence, or i suppose keep it valid. I think that the fee we pay to renew our licence should go toward some form of retest. Does anyone know what that fee is actually for? - (the renewing of the licence) It cant just be a money making scheme???? Can it??

"Administrative costs", it pays for someone to process your shit. But yes like all businesses it's designed to turn over revenue for the organisation, i.e. state government.

i havn't read all replies but how about it's not required for all drivers but if you sit the re-test say every 2 years, Vicroads pays the bill for the test and you get cheaper rego?

People who don't sit the test pay higher/the same rego to cover cost of tests.

Good drivers are rewarded, lazy/rich/crap drivers foot the bill

Rich drivers - They are one of the worst offenders (cutting in and out of traffic and forgetting to use their indicators grinds my gears), paying the bill is just an excuse for them to drive worse and think they own the roads.

I think everyone must take a re-test every 3 years. With an eye test and basic reaction test.

Everyone gets 3 chances.

1st time pass - You get a discount on your rego and the test is free. If you fail you get a 2nd chance.

2nd chance - If you pass you stll get a discount on your rego but pay an "admin/re-test fee". If you fail you get a 3rd chance.

3rd chance - Go to any registered driving school and learn until you are deemed competent and re-test. You pay full rego and another "admin/re-test fee".

If you keep failing repeat "3rd chance" until you are competent. Then drive around with P plates for 1 year.

Some older drivers are VERY dangerous. I've seen some going 30km/h in an 80 zone, swerving across the lanes, cutting people off and completely oblivious to it all!

funny I've seen some young drivers doing EXACTLY the same thing :-D

I know some 60+ drivers that sheet all over most others.
