Hey guys

at the moment i like my rims but due to going through Regency soon i will need to raise my car to stock..

I was wondering after going to Regency i wanted to get more of an offset look but i dont have enough cash to buy new rims

i was having a look at some hubcentric ones but it seems you need to chop down your studs to install them

would it be possible for me to buy 30mm ones and they should allow enough room for me not to cut them down?

also are hubcentric safer than standard ones?

cheers

You almost never have to shop your studs, as almost every rim ever made has a concave hole between the stud holes of the wheels - so once you install the bolt-in spacers the bit of stud sticking up goes into the recess in the back of the wheel and it doesn't matter. Another way to explain it is to turn over any rim you have laying around and see that the inner face of the rim that touches your wheel hub is not flat, but has cutouts inbetween where the holes are drilled. Hard to explain.

definitely get hub-centric ones as they will keep the rim centered on the hub (as the name suggests) also 25mm should be big enough to cover your studs

yes i thought so

ok i may go for the tad smaller ones then

cheers for the advice

I haven't had any cop really notice the spacers when I ran some. Paint them black if you wanted though to hide them more.

Also, use Loctite Blue, thread locker on the spacer to hub studs (not spacer to wheel studs) just abit more safer.

    • Agreed it actively wants to kill you which I love driving fast cars slow is my stick
    • Awesome! I was thinking S14 since they are longer. I'll give those a shot. Thanks for the input!
    • Far out, that thing looks like some loose fun!  Nothing beats the rawness of a filthy old Nissan with zero aids to keep the wheels pointing in the right direction like modern "fast" cars!
    • If there is no ridge at the inner edge of the battery tray (ie the battery tray is flat until it rolls off the edge into the open space of the bay), then no, it won't matter if it overhangs. If the battery would be propped up by any ridge, then that wouldn't be ideal. The bottom of the battery case would not be sharing the load. It would be concentrated on one end edge and a line across the bottom where it contacts the ridge. And possibly it wouldn't fit under the locking clamp either. I only upsized my battery to the max because: I sometime have to leave my car undriven for weeks at a time while I am away for work. On the previous battery (replaced a couple of months ago) I had to leave it undriven for months at a time!! I sometimes abuse the battery by running the stereo up loud for many hours while I wash and polish it. This is how I realised that the previous battery was on its last legs, because it got to the point where it was too weak to start after a couple of such. It was 7 years old though, so, fair play. Supercheap had a good special so the X was only ~$250 instead of ~$320, which seemed sufficiently less painful. I had already been using NS70 for the previous 2 batteries for most of the same reasons as above. The X is just the final boss level. I was contemplating going LiFePO4. But it's like $900 to do that properly, and while you save >10 kg of weight, you can likely only expect a couple of years longer life. So meh. Maybe when the price comes down further. Although, in ~7 years when I have to replace this one, I might not be allowed to drive such an anti-social vehicle anyway.
    • If I get a larger battery and it hangs off the edge of the frame rail, would this be an issue? With FMIC a lot of people downgrade their battery size due to less room for shit, was wondering if it would affect anything but it would still be tight via the clamp.
