So my mate has a ba xr6t hes upgrading to a gt70 to go make 700rwkw, so he has the turbo from his car spare. would i be able to use it on my skyline?

I know i wouldent use it to its limits or even close but would it be worth my time getting it and putting it on.

considering im used to my car making 193rwkw with 10psi and turbo back exhuast.

and yes i know its a huge ass turbo but im still asking

What model Xr6 is it. From my limited knowledge of these cars, the FG xr6's (approx 2008 onwards) had a 48trim 3076 compressor on a GT35 rear and the pre FG's (i.e. BF model) had essentially a GT35 front and rear - according to Nizpro. Both are internally gated. The FPV car's always had the larger GT35 turbo regardless of model.

You could easily confirm which turbo you have by measuring the inducer on the compressor. The ex wheel/housings were the same. Don't know what the ex a/r's are I'm sorry.

The FG turbo tops out around 300rwkw to 320rwkw when bolt on upgrades are applied depending on dyno. The pre FG turbo/FPV turbo is capable of 400rwkw tops. These figures are based on Ford 6 dyno's through the ZF 6 speed semi auto.

The FG turbo is probably the pick of the two for your car if it can be had for cheap. Otherwise just buy a 56trim 3076 with the GT30 rear as the GT35 rear might be an unkwnown quantity on your car with smaller displacement.

I recently picked up an FG G6E turbo (smaller turbo) and its fairly punchy on the big 6 as you would expect. Torque hits early in the rpm range (Ford claims 2000 rpm) and is capable of propelling these hefty cars down drag strip in sub 13 seconds for a stocker which isn't bad for an engine that has the characteristics of a diesel :D .

a GT60 turbo is capable of 2000hp, they dont even list a GT70 model.

XR6 turbos are a waste of time on a mild motor - least of all one without the 10k in supporting mods required.

And by the time you have all the supporting stuff in place there are better turbo combinations to get anyway!

If you know its going to be epically laggy, how then does it mean the time/effort is worthwhile?

Some people's logic makes me wonder sometimes :whistling:

haha yea il try n get it for free dont reckon though.

and yes there is a gt70 still very new its mentioned here http://www.turbomaster.info/eng/turbos/gta57-70.php

yea i was just checking to see that it is a complete waste of time. and i knew it would be massivly laggy but i figured anything is better than the stock turbo even if it had lag figured it would still pull harder than the stock turbo

Pull harder from 5000rpm maybe. By which stage you are pulling a gear by around 7000rpm and probably on the cusp of boost so it'd almost be slower :D

Get a nice 3071/3076 like everyone else IMO.

If XR6 turbos were good upgrades - everyone would be doing them :whistling:

totally a waste of time and would never work, were is your proof as you always ask ?

around 6 min they say what turbo and power, thus proof for not being a waste of time !

you also seem to have missed that it was a 3L not a 2.5L.

just because it can be done, doesnt mean it should be.

In bold for truth.

Chris had some excellent results for the budget. The setup wasn't build to be the best of the best - it was built for the purpose.

There is nothing to say it cannot be done better, or that it was the best setup.

It was functional, and did what was required - but how does that help the OP? Not much.

Different motor, different level of mods, different use of the car...

dont mean its a waste of time wither like said, so bang for buck i think its worth it.

270 on a Na bottom end is nothing to complain about .

i didnt realise thatr when you purchased a turbo capable of certain kw you had to get that from it or your wasting your time.

And wow 500cc difference, bit like putting a rb25 turbo on a 20 results are not far off !

people just so quick to flame others on here, i gave a link to proof for sumeone asking about this turbo, yes i know the engine is 500cc difference but still a reference non the less !

not quite a 1000 rpm, my gt35r 0.82 was on 23psi at 4200 on my 25, and like 3550 25/30.

its alot of time and effort putting it on the car only to find out your not happy with the laggggg, as ash mentioned you would have to spend alot on bolt on mods and even then youd need to forge the engine to use the turbo fully. The turbo is only a small part of the total expense required to get the car to that level, if i was going to spend that much i would make sure i was happy with the turbo choice.
