How Big A Catalytic Converter And Brand?

Anyone fill me in on what size cat is required for a particular sized exhaust, I have read bigger the cat the better. Also has anyone used a SMB cat? If so how does it stack up against other brands.

I got one of the cheap ebay 4 inch body cats and it seems to flow great, not sure if it would pass emissions though. Just look for a 100 cpsi core as the lower the number the better they flow.
