Gday im just about to get my licence and i need sum help.

I have been thinking of getting a r33 gtst but i keep getting told all different opinions on weather i can drive it on my p's or not (power to weight ratio). But im also looking at getting an NA r33 which is pretty stock cept for an exhaust and wheels and few other standard bits and pieces. But im being told they r fairly sluggish in standard form so im wondering wot i can do to it to give it a bit of go, if i choose to get a NA because i cant get the turbo.

Also im told insurance is realtively the same for both cars..........?

Im confused ne help apreciated.

as I understand it, on your P's your only allowed 125kw per tonne or 3.5litres per tonne.

the r33 skyline is "actually" 138kw per tonne (car weighs round 1300kg)which means you cant legally drive it........BUT......VicRoads class the skyline as a coupe and automatically stamps it on the rego sticker as a 1500kg vehicle......which makes the skyline 120kw per tonne...which means it's legal.

so it's a bit of a grey area really. I drove round on my P's in a 5lt V8 commodore, when ever I was pulled up I told the cops it was a 253 (4.2lt) which they couldnt prove otherwise short of pulling the motor out so it was all good. Plus they wouldnt have a clue anyway. Dont do stupid things and you wont be hassled (well dont do them in built up areas anyway), steer clear of cruising round late at night/in the AM hours of the weekend.

Heaps of R33's round Geelong are P platers so I'm guessing its legal. VicRoads fault...."i didnt know the weight of the car......the sticker says.."

hope I've helped

yeah theres a thread in the N/A section covering insurance for an N/A vs turbo, its not that much difference, like $500 tops depending on other conditions and your history age location etc...

abcent has a good point, not sure how that would hold up, does that apply to all r33s?

does this mean

u: the car is 1500kgs, look at the sticker

authorities: oh its wrong here lets weigh your car, oh look it weighs 1300, here have a fine

or cos vicroads stamped it wrong means they cant do shit?

interesting technicality
