Ive installed mine on the 34 but for some reason, the Bass noise from the rear speakers are not hooked up. The standard rears have pretty good bass but when i installed it, there is noise but no bass. Then I somehow wired up 1 extra wire and it came on but only up to a certain level then it would cut out!??

Can anyone help? :headspin:

what components have u installed? like h/u, amps, speakers, subs etc?

and where did u find this "1 extra wire" from?

and i've love to see some pics if possible - cos i just bought an R34 aswell, and will be planning to install my full sound system in very soon [hopefully]

yeah make sure all the wires are connected properly [positive-positive; negative-negative].

but i wouldnt think that phase cancellation would cause ALL the bass to 'disasppear'. but i cant think of any other reason why it mite be doing that...

no... all the wires were right... normal 4 wires for the rear speakers.. Then noticed there was absolutely no bass from the rears. Connected another wire to one of the positive or negative wire and bass came on!! But when its too loud, it cuts out??? So i have to keep it at a medium level.. Still cant work it out.

ANY IDEAS?

it sounds like youve got a wire being earthed or it's cutting out,. i had this problem once when me and a friend installed a head unit in my old vl. one of the wires was touching on another and the sound was shit and lacked heaps of bass it would also cut out going past a volume of like 10 out of 40. we found out one of the speaker wires and touching another bare wire and causing it do wierd stuff.

also the speakers will share a common wire, check you've hooked this up properly too

You dont need to remove the centre consol.

From the begining for those that dont know...... remove the ashtray, there is a screw behind the ashtray. Now you can remove the shifter surround. It just lifts up. Now at the bottom of the stereo facia are two screws, remove them. The next part, if you use a screwdriver you can damage the dash. Use a paint scraper, put it down the crack between the dash and heater controls and wedge out the heater controls. There are two screws behind them holding the facia on. Remove the facia, unplugging anything that has to unplugged. Now unscrew the 4 screws holding the stereo brackets in. Unscrew the stereo and your new one will line up perfectly with the factory holes in the brackets. You do not need the cage so dont cut the facia and try and use it. Like every other nissan, you will be left with a small gap around the stereo. Your local audio shop may sell a trim for this. We sell them at work for $10. Or wrap a piece of velcro arouund the stereo ( just the fluffy side)

As it says in the sticky about redrilling the brackets to make that trim fit.... ignore it. A very rough and incorrect way of doing it, also very time consuming! If ya have any questions, feel free to pm me!

BADHAB|T, Thanks for that info! :P

let me get this straight. Allyou need to remove are:

1. The gear stick surround, and

2. The stereo surround which is attached to together with the heater surround.

(Just wedge it out between the heather console and the dash surround).

Right?

NJR 34GTT : bang on man! Excellent step by step guide!

gaki : no worries dude! The vents are seperate NOT the heater controls, the heater controls are attatched to the stereo etc. (sorry for the mixup, been a while since I worked on an R34) The vents wedge out which exposes 2 screws holding the stereo facia in. Check out the link NJR posted, its easier to see it sometimes.

Oh, once you have mastered your car you will be able to do most Nissans! They all come apart in a very similar way. :D

Also, to wedge the vents out, ont use a small screwdriver as shown. You can dent and damage the dash. Use a paint scraper or something similar.

I'm about to install speakers into my car.

Do you have to remove the rear parcel shelf to do the rear speakers??

I want to fill the under side of the shelf with dacron at the same time, I'm wondering if this is going to be any good??

cheers

Yes, but like every Nissan you have to remove the rear seat to be able to remove the tray (Except Nissans where the back seat folds down).

No, use proper sound deadening sheets, that fluffy stuff doesnt do nothing.

The idea is to make the tray as solid as poss to eliminate rattles but also making it more solid means less energy is wasted in vibrations, therefore making the music sound better.

Thanks Badhabit.

I have previously had the black deadening stuff in the front doors of a VS Calais and it made quite a difference.

I guess it's not a hard job to put the deadening black stuff on the back steel shelf, but how do you put it on the parcel tray itself??

Cheers

    • I mean it's probably likely that people overestimate their skills in dialling in a setup and noticing the changes. I had SK shocks and springs, and added heavier springs and got them revalved by Sydney Shocks to suit based upon what I told them I wanted the car to handle like. I got back a completely different feeling set of shocks, which probably (?) feel great on track but holy hell are they rough on tram tracks and the like. Truth be told I doubt I'd be any faster or slower with either setup, or camber/castor combination. I also had whiteline eccentric castor bushes up front of my R34. I removed them and put in poly non-adjustable ones to soothe my OCD (nobody ever set the castor the same side to side, and it'd be near impossible to do) and be happy the wheel is centered in the well now for clearance reasons. Yes I wanted it to move 1mm 'back' :p I've effectively set my castor back to stock, negating all the benefits of that which is supposedly massive. I can't tell any difference steering the car.
    • You reckon? I have to disagree. Notwithstanding that at some point we may all be forced to do this to our cars if we want to keep driving them, there is absolutely nothing about an electric-converted-previously-IC-car that is ever good. EVs that are built by OEMs on platforms that were originally IC already suck, let alone the shitty outcomes that result from doing it as a retro to something that was actually built as an IC car. This is because the platform really needs to be designed to house the battery in a useful place (ie, down as low as possible) and the motors are properly located relative to the wheels that they have to drive. Converted platforms already suck at this. But when you try to shove sufficient battery capacity into a previously IC car, you can't put it down on/in the floor, because that space doesn't exist. You can't find enough space where the fuel tank used to be (if it is an inboard fuel tank) and you don't want to hang it out behind the rear axle line if you had a rear fuel tank. And there's not enough space in the tunnel if you still want to use it for anything remotely like what it was originally used for. The engine bay is too big for a motor, and you'd really prefer that the motor for the rear wheels wasn't in the front engine bay anyway. And there's not enough room where the diff was for a proper man-sized E motor. And then.... there is the complete lack of soul and emotion that is provided by EVs. There are some cracking restomods out there. Like the Alfaholics GTA thingo. But it is petrol powered. Look at the alternative EV version of a GTA restomod by Totem. it is jaw droppingly beautiful. But by all reports is is objectively awful to drive, despite having 600 HP or something, simply because there is nothing there. It sounds like a sewing machine or a leaf blower. It should scream and wail and make the hairs on your neck stand up. Oh, and it's 1500 bloody kg in a car that was <900kg when new. GTRs are heavy enough as it is without pushing them up to 2tonnes worth of pork.

    • hahaha @joshuaho96 the most action it gets is when I have to drive from West to SE VIC to meet the fam. Even then, it;s on highway cruising speeds
    • don't know anyone in this thread, but i just found it, read the entire thing in a few hours, realized greg is still posting progress, and just have to say, this is awesome. it looks awesome. 100% right about the Uras kit making it a pain to get on hoists...have the same kit on my 34 and it takes six 2x4s and race ramps to do it without taking parts off. this reminds me exactly of this thread. https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/build-projects-and-project-cars/r63-amg-the-unicorn-of-my-destruction/110824/page8/
