Well its hard to decide cause they are both great cars.

But its such a hard decision but if i spend 23k i could get a evo 7/ or 8 for that then.

The GTR is older but is powerful and still catches my eyes but theres something about the evo that makes me like them alot

im still unsure about which one to get

But I've just worked out how much it costs incase theres faults with the car.

Would there be any other car that will much up to the evo or gtr under 18k?

Based on your budget and intended use you cannot afford a GTR. If you do buy it anyway, it will break and you will have no more money, and then be left with a big paperweight.

I think you need a rethink. If you want a car that you can use on the road AND take to the track you are going to need to spend a lot of money on strengthening components for the abuse that track use inflicts. If you buy a $17k GTR bolt on some turbo's and think you are good to go you are gong to learn a VERY expensive lesson.

For what you want and for your budget I would be looking at a gts-t, s13/14, 180 or somthing similar. They have much less to go wrong, you can get them for much less and that will leave you with far more cash to build them up right. Track days are seriously expensive hobby particularly when you want to be able to drive the same car on the road.

buy a toyota starlet GT - $5000, throw another $5000 into engine, susp, and decent wheels/tires, and go to the track and lap all the boys in their gtr's. the little gt starlets go hard mate, and anyone who doubts this has spent NO time at a track with a decent lil starlet gt getting around.

Or go old school? An Escort or 1600 Datto will be cheap and they're reliable as anything. Smaller lighter car will be easier on tyres and brakes aswell and a well set up one will be fairly quick. S13 or R32 GTST is probably a better bet if you want to stay with a newer car.

Escorts and old dattos are lots of things, but cheap and reliable they aint, if you want to belt them around a race track. Maybe 20 years ago, but there are plenty of better options for the budget conscious these days.

S13 is almost certainly the best bang for buck track/club car around at the moment. You can pick up cars for next to nothing (I picked up a CA18DET licensed for well under $3k, and I've heard of cheaper cars than that), parts are *everywhere* (can even re-shell cheaply), and upgrade paths are fairly well known and supported. On top of that you get RWD, light weight, good handling, turbo engine below 2L (important for class racing), and a fairly nice looking coupe body.

this. i've actually got a 1600 in my shed, already has good suspension and brakes, needs a new motor. and i'm still debating if it would be cheaper to use a s13 or similar.

r32 gtr is awsome car .. if you can find one that hasnt been thrashed and has been looked after and serviced you should be ok ... like all performance cars people will say ticking time bombs and they blow up etc etc . but i recon it comes down to the owner . if ur not willing to fix stuff that goes wrong to prevent engine failure then yeh , i have owned rotarys before series 7 rx7 and a series 5 rx7 both never gave me any trouble , and you no how much rotarys get a bad rep .

I was in a similiar dilemma 3yrs ago... i went with the 32gtr...

I still think about buying an evo... but the aura of the gtr came across stronger to me in the end.

It has a stronger street presense and the sound of them reminds me of grand turismo lol.

Yes they are a bitch to setup and look after when so many things CAN go wrong (didnt for me).

You'll become like rest of us gtr owners forking out to do 'Just incase it blows' modifications like changing turbos

and oilpumps so your motor doesnt go.

The evo is just a better equipped factory vehicle

GTR = general TOP Speedoh mauler (linear power feel, feel slow stock - but look quick on the outside lol)

EVO = general all response machine

Which ever one you get you'll see the one you never bought and think 'darn i wish i had one'.

My advice is if you go a gtr get one built 1993-1994 and one thats had the hard work done ($$$$) spent without being too over the top.

i second this motion ive been living on migorang for 2 years... but the car is finally strong.. lol

For a track car- R32 GTR for sure. Evo 5 is more practical, but there no prizes for practicality on the track!

what man?!!? like what..... evos shred dude and thats an unbiased opinion as i own a 32... out of the box an evo is a much better package.. so much emphasis on handling from factory

go the evo if u can find one in really good condition.. quick around a track and practical

By the sounds of this "enthusiast" I don't think is in the market for a car at all. He is some high school kid just starting a topic LOL. :(

Most kids even younger like my son (10) and his mates know a lot more about any import then you would think but this guy only has some general stuff.
