hEY BRONX,

I have a similar prob on my 34GTT, I have 3inch full turbo back zorst, pod filter in custom cold air box, boost set to 12psi with manual boost controller, short shift kit and thats it. Dunno if my ECU has been programmed to handle this boost by previous owner. Anyways my issue:

My car revs sweetly all the way to 4800ish rpm ( full boost of 12psi kicks in at around 2500-3000rpm). Then from 4.8k to around 5200-5400rpm I get that sort of popping sound u talking of and no acceleration, like the car has suddenly become NA, dunno what boost it is on at this point, but theres just no feeling of boost/turbo at this band. Then from 5400 to 6800rpm the car REALLY flies - constant 12psi and smooth revving all the way ( it still never hits the 7000rpm redline but cuts off around 6800rpm???) Why dont I k\hit 7rpm?

It really bugs me as to why it ( the flat spot / NA feeling and popping ) happens on this 4.8-5.4k rpm band ONLY, do you guys recommend I do the plugs - NGK Iridiums?? I'm sure its not the coil packs.

I'm gona do a proper FMIC and NIstune next year though.

cheers RON :(

The exact symptoms of either plugs and/or coilpacks: you have the misfire EVERY skyline gets. There's a massive sticky in the general (I think) section.

1. Replace plugs. You can buy either pre-gapped to 1.1 or 0.8mm. Smaller gap means less chance of misfire but less quality if spark.

2. Get copper or cheap bosch plats. As said many times on these forums, most people find the plats and iridiums last barely longer, or less, than the coppers. It's better to buy coppers for cheap and then at least your engine has fresh plugs all the time (they'll last ~5000km).

3. If the mis is still there, time for new coilpacks.

Misfires suck, will be good to have it fixed mate.

i wonder why this forum doesent have the thumbs up or you like function for other members posts, would come in handy, show how much contribution people are bringing to the forums. i would be giving out a lot of thumbs up to all of you :(

    • Probably a smart choice to buy one vs build, purely for the motivation part as you said! Imagine the metal dust everywhere from grinding all the steel to build one. Ha ha ha!   Also, post a photo of your garage.   Mine is below, this is where I've been cleaning and have already half filled a caged 6*4 trailer. And this is after my cleaning expedition mentioned previously... The middle normally has a car in it, but I'm dumping things in the middle as I sort through them. And poor skyline was dusty and has had the lightest few drops of rain and now it looks atrocious and needs to be dragged back out and washed thoroughly! And yes to the right is technically another bay, you really can only see 2 bays out of 3 in this picture.
    • It's more like on average the things I see a lot of things going wrong. Yes, usually the people who reach out are the ones who are having problems but on average it feels like mechanics and tuners here aren't really competent. I swing between thinking my standards are just way too high and wondering whether people really are just this dumb. I just had the strangest 10+ reply argument on a Facebook group over someone insisting that the factory R34 GTT boost control solenoid reduces boost pressure to 5 psi when it's on and raises boost pressure to 7 psi when it's off despite showing the exact plumbing in the factory service manual and the solenoid behavior detailed in the FSM.
    • I steam cleaned my near new set of volk gtc wheels 14 years ago and farrkkked them lol. The clear coat cracked like spider webbing in several areas. Lesson learnt don't do that. 😭
    • If you don't touch the CAS, then you're fine.
    • Yeah, my moulds and seals are 32 years old now. I think I will continue to not use a pressure washer on it.
