Been trying to find a major water leak that seems to be coming from the back of the motor on top of the bell housing, thought it may have been the turbo feed line but today i noticed the line in the pic has nothing attached to it, seems to be coming from the gearbox tho so im unsure if its just a breather or not.

I'm going to guess it's a split water hose under the inlet manifold, right at the back

There is a short rubber hose that comes off the block and connects to the thick "brass coloured" water lines under there

I've seen a few split in that location

If I'm right, it's a fairly easy fix but you'll need to take the starter motor off to get to it from underneath

Filled up with water today and was going to warm it up to get pressure into it and find where the leak was, didnt need to start it, could hear water straight away, turns out its coming from the turbo line like i suspected.

Question now is that since its so hard to get to the end behind the head, and the fact that i will be putting on a 3540 the just has banjo fittings with barbs coming off them, would it be ok to just run rubber hose from the manifold to the turbo, or even put in a water temp adaptor into the radiator hose and run a line from there, or do i really need to keep the hard line for some reason?

I reckon you'd be OK running rubber hose, but I'd join to the hard line as far back (away from exh. manifold at the back of the head) as you can.

That's the way I had my 3582 setup, it had a banjo and hard line off the turbo that ran to just behind the head and hose from there to under the inlet manifold, never had a problem

If your patient you can take the whole hard line off and run rubber (hear "gates flame proof" hose or similar) all the way around the back off the head to the manifold..I bought 1 metre for about 15$ it was heaps..

Getting the hard line off is a bit of a pain as its bolted to the back of the head but i did it with some patience.And the join on to the inlet manifold isnt too hard if you take the AAC off ( u can give it a clean while its off too)...

Also Just make sure you run the flame hose away from the ex manifold, if you run it too close, say between the the turbo and manifold, it will get brittle and crack again and its a pain to replace..I just looped mine down away from it..
