i have an rb25det neo with a hks28/35kai. Its now time to upgrade the cams. i have been looking ansd some tomei poncams, but im not sure which ones i will need. Im hopefully after 300rwkw, its a street car but hopefully in the future ill do some track work.

Anyways there is 2 differnt types of cams. Not sure if i need type a or b? cheers

About types for NEOstaight6:

- Type A:

In order to get stable idle and raise low-mid RPM torque, we set the duration of EX camshaft shorter.

Best suit used with stock turbine or N1 turbine.

- Type B:

By giving longer duration timing than type a, it eables to raise both response and peak power at the same time, even with mid-large sized turbine.

SPECIFICATIONS:

- R33,WGNC34 Zenki/Chuki,C34:

-- Duration (degree):

--- Intake: 256°

--- Exhaust: 256°

-- Max Cam Lift(mm):

--- Intake: 8.50

--- Exhaust: 8.50

- R34,WGNC34 Kouki - Type A:

-- Duration (degree):

--- Intake: 252°

--- Exhaust: 252°

-- Max Cam Lift(mm):

--- Intake: 9.15

--- Exhaust: 9.15

- R34,WGNC34 Kouki - Type B:

-- Duration (degree):

--- Intake: 260°

--- Exhaust: 260°

-- Max Cam Lift(mm):

--- Intake: 9.15

--- Exhaust: 9.15

poncams will net you an extra 10-15rwkw from a ~300rwkw setup... e85 will net you an extra 30-40rwkw

fwiw.... bombtrack and i have the same setup, his with poncams mine without

my car maks 285rwkw and his 297rwkw on 98 octane

he is getting his car retuned in a week or so at my tuner, so i'll post more accurate results then, also e85 results

fwiw i make 323rwkw on e85

I'm more interested in the differences at mid range and low down torque...

My motor is stock with a turbo and supporting mods capable to take it to 300rwkw or so... so i don't want to push out any more top end, just looking at response i guess?

Type B is my pick.

There seem to be no losses down low with a fatter mid range.

Are they worth it? Probably cheaper to upgrade the turbo to a GT3076 if 300rwkw is important.

If response is more important then stick with the HKS 2835 Kai.

Asking about cams will always get a mixed bag of responses from SAU.

My experience is that the car is better thing with them than without BUT there are plenty of people with experience here that say they are often a step back on a track (particularly with respect to GTR's). So allow for the price of cams, the install (checking valve clearances, possibly shims) and dyno time. Ultimately it's your call but if you have the money I think it will be a step forward (at a price).

exactly...

cams are already in their efficiency range (or close to) at the start of a dyno run in 4th, so the numbers don't always accurately represent what they will feel like on the street/track

i'm 50/50 on whether it's worth it on a 300rwkw build

also fwiw, e85 will give you more mid range anyway :)

here's my car, same dyno, same tune, same day.. different fuels

yea e85 is out of the question cant get it where i am. mainly just curious about the differnces with the cams... eg - would i lose to much down low with the type b cams, or would the type a do not much at all etc.... anyone used type a or b??

e85 seems wonderful. i might drop in town and see when there getting it lol
