old mate
ok i bought this turbo a few years ago from a shop who was "helping me out". it was originally going on a rb20 but i have since canned that idea and bought a rb25. any way its taken ages to get the motor all done and now im at the stage of actually puting it in the car. the motor itself has a forged and balanced bottom end. any way i have looked at the dyno thread for rb25s and i have also looked around but i cant realy find to much other than this turbo is definatly not my best option. shit hey. what i wanna know is what power am i capable of making with this turbo with a .63 rear on it. if this has been covered then my bad and please point me in the right direction. however not many people use this apparently. cheers, Steve. JonnoHR31
IW or external? standard manifold or better? should be capable of somewhere around 250-300rwkw depending on other mods and fuel used etc also, does it have the anti surge comp cover? big comp size with such a small rear on it will likely surge. was a thread just the other day about it http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Co...on-t337560.html Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/337799-3082r/#findComment-5460311 Share on other sites
old mate
external gate and on standard manifold. i have ahks adapter with a hks 40mm gate. no anti surge. i bought it when i knew nothing about this sort of stuff and these guys saw me coming for a few different things. will have a look in that thread now. cheers. Harey
I think quite the opposite mate, I reckon thats a great setup. I remember STATUS posting in this section that he recommended either the 3082 with a 0.63 housing or a 3071/76 in a 0.82 housing. I think it will work out very well, go for it! Only criticism is that the housing will max out before your forged engine does. But it will be quite responsive. Not sure what your after with it. You can always throw a 0.82 housing on it if you want to chase big power. old mate
well im in brisbane and i enjoy drifting. there is QR and i can compensate power for just going faster. the other tracks here are just 2nd gear. so response is handy. i also wanna get into time work. Lakeside looks small enough for a responsive setup to be effective. as for the engine my builder thinks the bottom end will handle more than what the turbo can offer but i will have to some extra to the head. manifolds and such. 300rwkw should be alot of fun. be better then the 180hp my pathetic r20 has to offer. JonnoHR31
its been done but dont expect 300rwkw from a standard manifold, more realistically 260-280rwkw. if you already have the setup then might aswell try it and see if you like it. if you get lines made up make sure they're a little longer than they need to be incase you decide to go a different manifold later on. old mate
well 280kw is fine haha. good tip on the extra length for the lines. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/337799-3082r/#findComment-5460736 Share on other sites
GTScotT
Definitely see to some minor head work and better manifolds. I would personally stick with this turbo seeing as you have it already and go for a .7x twin scroll setup. With the right manifolds and a little bit of head work you could see up to 350 with that turbo. ATP do the twin scroll rear housing in question. Mate that to a 6boost with the appropriate gate material and perhaps a greddy plenum and you have quite the impressive setup. The head work will be what gets you there tho, a minor port with good cams and springs will do wonders. old mate
man its taken me so long to get to this point. when i get over this im plan to buy a plazmaman and a 6 boost and i was tossing up between finding a 3037 and the garret equilivent. cams aswell. so i guess i should expect no more than 280kw. no drama. Harey
The 3037/3076 is a one size smaller turbo then 3082. I dont see the point of changing to a smaller turbo with a bigger exhaust housing, just get a 0.82 housing on your current turbo if you want to escalate. old mate
that makes me excited. ok so a bigger rear and the anti surge front on my current turbo would be a better option than the 3037 and 3076? how come more people dont use this then? D_Stirls
AFAIK a GT3040 is another name for the same turbo so look for results from people running a GT3040 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/337799-3082r/#findComment-5461090 Share on other sites

hypergear
GT3082 doesn't existed as a Garrett factory unit. It running a 82mm comp wheel from 3582R with a GT30 turbine wheel in hope to produce more power with just noticeable lag. Personally this is not what I would recommend. Reason been is the comp wheel is too big for the flow capacity of the turbine wheel. resulting high back pressure, heat, boost control issues, and will not produce much more then what a GT3076 56T is capable of producing. How ever you can run a customized 58T 76mm comp wheel on the GT30 turbine wheel to produce similar result with better response. Except 76 58T is not a standard size wheel that you can buy, which you have to machine your own. I am pretty sure my mate hade a genuine garrett 3082 on a commodore. I know garrett dont offer one now. Well first off you cant buy the 3082 anymore. I wasnt saying the 0.82 housing on the 3082 would be better then a 3076 but just as a simpler cheaper option. Have you seen Simon R32s orange drift car that runs a 3076 with 0.63 housing and he loves it! Tune it with the current turbo i think you will be very happy Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/337799-3082r/#findComment-5461369 Share on other sites

I am pretty sure my mate hade a genuine garrett 3082 on a commodore.I know garrett dont offer one now. Yep, CHRA 700177-5014, people kept trying to supply me with them when I was after my 56T GT3076R as they seemed easier to acquire in this part of the world. I am pretty sure there are "new" ones still floating around... whether they are actually unused old stock or not I'm not sure but they were a genuine Garrett unit. Rolls
Personally I would stick with the smaller rear as sure it won't flow as much but you'll get much better response which unless it is a track/race car is what you want. Should be a very nice setup. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/337799-3082r/#findComment-5461605 Share on other sites
