warps
they're harder compound and more expensive than both the KU36 and Federal 595RSR. My thoughts are both those tyres are going to perform better for less money. Federals are softer and faster, KU36 will probably last a little longer. Both are good tyres in the same category as the RT615. Buy them from Option 1 garage cheap! www.option1garage.com.au/NewTyres.htmI've had the KU36 on a couple of cars. They're hard to beat for the money, but the Federals are pretty close on price now too and certainly have the edge at the track. Holy snap! The 595's are $140 a tyre in my size!! I can't even get decent street tyres for that kind of money!! Now I know what to get when the 048's wear out. Note I do as many km on gravel as I do on tarmac with my semis, so probably no point buying the best semis money can buy, just to pick up a second or 2 at Lakeside. The 595 come in different models, most tyre shops don't even know about the RSR so they will quote you on the low end variety, im sure that price will be for the ordinary ones rather than the RSR. adelaide boy
Hey guys. Has anyone ran the Federal ss street tyres. Looking at a budget priced street tyre that performs in the winds but not really a track tyre. warps
tell 'em I put you onto to them, Peter. Actually you may know Paul Williamson yourself - a rally guy from way back. Yeh I know Paul through the rally scene (kind of) Actually, a good friend of mine ended up with a Paul Williamson engine in his 1600 back in about 86 or 87 when the whole group G thing was canned. Paul had picked up an L20 off this guy (who's older brother was navigating for Paul at the time) and built a new engine for his rally car. Then they banned Gp G rally cars, so Paul sold the engine back for the cost of the parts only. I remember spending a lot of time sideways or airborne in various car parks / speed bumps at QLD Uni in that Datto Although I never met Paul at the time, I heard a lot about his rally exploits. paulR32gtr
Been getting a few quotes on some motorsport tyres for an 18x9.5 rim: Dunlop DZ03G 265/35/18 = $655 per tyre Bridgestone RE55S 265/35/18 = $595 per tyre For someone just coming to grips with motorsport tyre pricing how do these sound? The new Federal FZ-201's are not available in 18" rim sizes as yet unfortunately. Harey
Someone said before that the KU36s were sticky right out of the shop, geeze mine are deadly when cold. Have to take care in the wet. Cold and wet is just suicidal haha. Although warm and dry is good Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/337833-tyres-that-are-suitable-for-track-days-and-also-road-legal/page/2/#findComment-5467729 Share on other sites

Also seen that if you dont use them hard for a while they lose grip, then after a decent thrash they work well again. joeyjoejoejuniorshabadoo
dang... and as for the federal 595ss's they are decent road tyre for the money, but not great... good for drift as they have relatively even wear certainly nota tyre for grip racing of any sort Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/337833-tyres-that-are-suitable-for-track-days-and-also-road-legal/page/2/#findComment-5468133 Share on other sites

Also seen that if you dont use them hard for a while they lose grip, then after a decent thrash they work well again. Have you tried Federal 595RSR's ? I find them decent from cold, although I rarely push the car that hard when its cold...so my opinion may be invalid Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/337833-tyres-that-are-suitable-for-track-days-and-also-road-legal/page/2/#findComment-5468371 Share on other sites
HEKT1K
Nitto NT05? I bought 265/35/18 for $350 each... certainly better than ~$600 for those others you mentioned! I find them decent from cold, although I rarely push the car that hard when its cold...so my opinion may be invalid I am running these tyres right now. The are nearly the same when cold as they are when warm/hot, if anything I find they can overheat and get a bit greasy sometimes(refer to picture) Im getting more neg camber so they should be fine after that. There is a much bigger difference between hot and cold for the KU36s and they dont warm that easily either, I would expect them to last a few more laps before overheating if you used them on the track. Nitto NT05? I bought 265/35/18 for $350 each... certainly better than ~$600 for those others you mentioned! Those are street/track tyres comparable to the KU36 or RSR which are similar price. How do you find them? The $600 tyres are R compound (semi slicks) which are higher performance. If i had endless cash I would run R comps on the street forever. joeyjoejoejuniorshabadoo
NT05's absolutely destroy KU36's I currently run the 05's on the front and the 36's on the rear. but have run the nitto's all round with 325rwkw the nitto's work better in both the cold and hot than the kuhmo's and they lasted though 2 deca's, a drag day and 7,000ish daily driving before they were on the indicators for an easy comparison of the tyres that have been on the car in the last 2 years while running my street tune of 285rwkw and all on the same suspension setup (6/8 coils, sways, struts, camber & castor adjustments, 1.5 way diff and low as hell) in second gear, the point of losing traction in the dry is approx: (all tyres 235/40/18) federal 595ss ~5000rpm kuhmo KU36 ~6000rpm nitto NT05 - needs a clutch kick Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/337833-tyres-that-are-suitable-for-track-days-and-also-road-legal/page/2/#findComment-5468786 Share on other sites
