Just bought a PLX bluetooth OBD II reader (http://www.plxkiwi.com/kiwibluetooth/), however upon further reading it seems that import Nissan's do not comply with OBD II standards and will require Consult III equipment. I've also read that the Blatz and Conzult systems don't work either.

I've seen some Consult III software for sale on ebay (apparently for educational purposes, who knows), which can be installed on any laptop. However my question is, would this software work with the standard ELM327 interface cable? Or would I need a special Consult III cable and hardware? From what I can see the connectors are the same, however I think the pin outs are slightly different... maybe some tweaking could see it work?

What do you guys think?

Been there, nothing here talks Japanese. Only the more expensive readers will work.

What do you want to read? If it is for engine data, the Informeter Touch is great.

If you want one I'm prepared to set up a group buy on the Greddy infometers!....$400 + domestic delivery......so work on about $425 to your door. I have one there awesome.......+ I can get all the little extra's for them too!

If there's enough interest in this thread and the Greddy infometer I'll set it up....if it's one at a time PM me and i'll get one for yah but it wont be at $400!

I've been looking at these since you started talking about them.

At that price I could probably justify one.

Sorta correct

True Blatz and Conzult won't read our cars... but you shouldn't need Consult 3. I have read my car using the older Consult 2, no problems.

The Informeter is pretty cool though and will undoubtedly cost you less than if you can find a Consult 2

I've seen Consult II readers on ebay for around 30 bux, but I was under the impression Consult II didn't work?? Or does a genuine Nissan Consult system actually work as opposed to china copies? What software did you run?

Its definately Consult II, however I cant confirm if a chinese rip off will suffice - but the workshop manuals DEFINITELY only mention Consult II. Though at $30, its not an expensive endeavour to find out if the cheapies will work

these cars are consult 2 (J1850) based. C3 is for the later cars.

jetwreck,

two words -launch diagun  (for those reading along toss that into google.)

lol.....thanks Chris

anyway guy's for those that want the Greddy infometer.

i dont think you have - maybe consult 1, but not consult II.

Blatz does not work on the M35.. tried and failed..

all the M35 models will work AFAIK except for anything that is VQ25DET equipped. we have a rare ECU that is only shared by one or two other cars (not nissans)

Unfortunately true (as far as I know too)... yay for us :P

Edited by iamhe77
is m35 significantly different to v35? (no longer sharing engine etc like r34/c34?) cause the v35 is on the blazt.II compatibility list

As they said. Our ECU is an Orphan.. We wish it was simpler. Would make getting a reflashed ECU much easier than it has been to date.

I physically tried the Blatz on my car and no go.

Yep, you're right, they were only consult I ;) . However I checked again and there seems to be Consult II scanners for around the $300 mark... but for an extra $100 the touch informeter would probably be a better buy, nice packaging etc. But, then again... for proper diagnostics, you can't go past the scanner. Hmm... what to do....
