I had to give my mum a lift and it was a choice btw. the Magna, the Merc and my R33.

So I took the 33. It's a longish drive over several suburbs so if you're gonna go, make it a good one.

So I have a blinding drive over, nice and empty in the middle of the night. The night air is good for the FMIC.

Pick up me mum and as I'm turning right at a Tee Junction, two cars come over on my right obviously very fast... one second it's clear, next second it's two cars going flat chat at my driver's door...

So fark it - hit it hard in 2nd, there's a big chirp as the turbo comes on hard but not big enough so my mum complains.

Anyway back to slow cruise so my mum doesn't get deafened by the boost, exhaust, induction noise.

So I notice this car following me. I'm in an 80 zone so I gun it up to 80 or so.

The cop puts on lights AND sirens. Obviously he thinks my 33 is gonna run.

He says I was speeding, the classic "In a hurry mate?"

I says I wasn't.

Then he changes tack.

He says I did a burnout out of that corner. I say if I didn't do a burn he'd be scraping me off the front of that Landcruiser. I just got scared and I said I wouldn't do burnouts with my mum there. He says he thought oncoming traffic was going a bit fast.

So he gets my license and runs me thru his computer. I don't care. I got 12 points and I'm clean. Car has just been rego'ed and no defects.

I'm packing it because I think he's gonna defect me for my carbon bonnet, exhaust and all the other doo-hickeys. That would be embarrassing to get a canary with your mum there.

All the time my mum is saying "Tony is a good boy. He's a good driver. He never speed".

Yeah ok. that's an out and out lie :P

He sits in the car for a while. I think he working out if he can get to Krispy Kreme before closing. Finally he comes up to my door and says 'ok fair enough, just be careful out there'.

:headspin:

Jesus Roy....you drinking this early in the morning?

Tony the only other thing you coulda done was ask him to record everything....keeps them absolutely honest.

He couldn't do you for the chirp as it was a self defence case. Precedence was set recently in Vic when an ex-cop was booked on his MC by a camera, but claimed a ute was pulling out and would have struck him if he hadn't gunned it a bit (stopping would not have avoided the accident). Magistrate threw it out and wanted to know why the police had persisted with the case. Stupidity was the likely response. This will work too with red lights and I always check to see if someone is up the clacker before braking. Had one close call before.

Yeh it pays to have a good driving record/clean skin, if your not too happy driving around with your mom all the time, a good 60s CD, like Roy Orbison etc etc is a pretty good way of not being taken too seriously by the police.

Or have GOLD 104 blasting on the radio when they pull you over. That gives them a good surprise

...maybe still feeling the effects of too big a Saturday night

Its just that i was listening to a 60s compilation CD one night when i got pulled over, the copper just laughed at me :P

Another time the radio was playing 'make it thru the day without you'... John Secada or something like that, and again the copper made a quirky remark about having to change the station before driving off :D

good to hear they were reasonable. My experience in the past lines up with yours, that cops ARE reasonable if you approach things the right way. I'm sure I'll run into a c**t sooner or later but fingers crossed they are less common than most people think/say.

So far been pulled over 3 times and let off, and had an oncoming cop flash his disco lights at me when I was doing ~90 in an 80.. I was tapering off and coasted back down to 80 and he didn't bother following me. The ones that have pulled me over always come across like ball-busters and most people probably get riled up at that point and stop doing themselves favours... but the end result has always been fair for me.

Haven't been pulled over in the r31 yet... fingers crossed!!

BTW is that a Tommy Kiaira model in your avatar?

xaero1 is close to the mark, its the Cerbera Speed 12. (Same engine as Speed 12 but uses the more common Cerbera shell) ... cant get the avatar to come out any clearer :D

Oh and Tony, good to read your car is back on the road ;)

I've only been pulled over once by the police for a breath test in Manly along with a few other cars. The didnt care at all that I was driving a skyline and never hassled me.

A week after I got the car I took my mum for a ride around Manly and we spotted a cop ahead travelling in the opposite direction. He spotted my car, turned up a side street and did a u turn in the mouth of the street in readyness to chase me as I went past. He looked at me as we went past and I could see his expression change as soon as he saw my mum in that car. He didn't bother me at all.

Maybe its because the police may know that I drive like a granny, but I haven't had police even look at me since I got the carbon bonnet. Have you had any problems with it yet Tony? PS. send me a pic of your car now, I bet it looks dead sexy.

I've been able to talk my way out of a number of 'pull overs'.

As long as you aren't doing something blatantly stupid.

Once I was pulled up by two young constables. They said they followed me thru three roundabouts and I didn't brake for any of them. I gave it some going up a hill. You know how hard it is to lug a Skyline up a hill in 2nd in a 50 zone.

Two cars in front of me were doing silly buggers. One guy overtook on a double yellow, one braked suddenly without indicating. I was more interested in the antics up above than the VY behind.

So he pulls me up and tells me he needed to do 75km/h to keep up with me. I said 'ok'. What can you say?

He said I should brake in corners because even if I don't brake and stay below 50 in a 50 zone, you could slide out Keiichi Tsuchiya style. I said 'ok'.

I said I was watching the two dickheads up ahead playing silly buggers up ahead but obviously a Camry and Corolla dicing it up is no match for a Skyline going thru a roundabout at 50km/h.

They say they watch out for high performance cars in this area as they are high theft risks so they pull people over just to check ownership. I say 'ok already, I'm ***kin' late for dinner!!!'

They let me go to meet up at Lane Cove Restarant for the last TNS steak nite.

Oh and here's a pic:

It's big.

    • Starting with issues 1 - 5, we have already run into a problem...!  Issue #4 contained 2x front brake calipers, instead of 1 caliper and 1x steering knuckle. Will have to call DeAgostini on Monday to sort it out. Anyway here's some photos.  Issue #1 is the front bumper, headlights and number plate. Issue #2 is the front wheel (with "We produced with spartan air." text on the centre cap!) and tyre, the front lip spoiler and cylinder head cover with ignition coils under the centre cover... which will never be seen again. Issue #3 is the bonnet and cylinder head. Issue #4 is the front strut, brake disc (with laser etched metal discs) and brake caliper. I stopped here because of the issue with the missing steering knuckle.  Next update will be #5 - #10 in a few weeks.
    • DeAgostini is one of a few companies that release quite large (the largest commonly available size actually) 1/8 scale models in a series of weekly issues over 100 - 110 instalments.  They release different models for different markets and DeAgostini Japan have release the BNR32 Skyline GT-R Nismo last month. I've made two of these 1/8 scale sized cars (one an R35 GT-R from 2012 - 2014, the other I'm just about halfway through, a BNR34 Skyline GT-R from the 2Fast 2Furious movie) so when this R32 was announced there was no way I could ignore it as it's my favourite out of all Nissans.  Each issue costs around $20 so it costs about $2.2K when completed. I suppose it is very expensive for what it is, but the quality and details are really very good, and there are many "gimmicks" like fully functioning exterior and interior lights operated with a remote control, working steering, all doors/bonnet/boot/fuel lid open and close, the side mirrors fold in and it even has a speaker for the engine revving sounds when you turn the lights on.  Each issue comes with a magazine that tells the story of the BNR32 Skyline GT-R Nismo from the first design stages of the BNR32 to Group A homologation and the various racing version that were run in the Japanese Group A and JGTC, and Australian Group A.  So I plan to update the build in this thread 5 issues at a time.  https://deagostini.jp/r32/?srsltid=AfmBOooKjxDc4EUK2rmXqMBPgyHfFJ24s4oEPJBNpnF-lFlsRoW0PE6P
    • As per title.. has anyone used so far? Keen to hear results, comparisons. In the market for a new mani for my new turbo. Any issues cracking?
    • Re read everything that has been written about this in this thread.. Let us know if you're still confused.
    • This would be a new pump with new gears. I'm just unclear on whether it's a good idea to run more oil pump flow if you don't actually need said flow. Oil level is set a minute or so after shutting off a warm engine so wouldn't the high RPM oil level in the sump end up lower all things equal? Plan is OEM clearances, main concern in my mind is whether the OEM pump can keep up with the flow requirements of any additional oil coolers.
