Hey all,

Just wondering if someone can recommend me a adhesive tape remover on a chrome/metal surface around me door windows. Its the left overs from a double sided tape and i used WD40 but it still leaves the last bit and cant get them off without scratching the metal surface.

And after that what is the best to get the shine of the metal surface and if it is scratched is there any way to fix the small scratches? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Try to hunt down a product called "Prepsol", it's used in spray painting as a surface-prep, and is designed to remove any grease, oil, grime etc from steel before priming, works a treat on the sticky left over form double-sided tape etc. Spray it on, leave it for a bit, then run your thumb along it (not your nail), and the tape should form a ball and roll off. And provided the chrome doesn't have a coating (ie a layer of clear) any metal polish will do the trick to shine it up and take out the small scratches.

Yeah get some prepsol onto it, can get it from any auto or paints store...

Other than that, any goo remover or "dissolve it" product will work well. As for bringing up the shine afterwards, use a cotton wad metal polish (comes in a tin and is like a big piece of cotton wool, you tear bits off it and use it to polish shiny things).

Thanks soo much for the information guys... :/

i already tried eucalyptus oil but not much success but it worked for some extent.. I ll try prepsol and "cotton wad metal polish" this weekend. Will i be able to buy them from autobarn or supercheap auto?

and should i be careful that these does not touch the paint? or it wont have much effect on paint. (prepsol will be ok with paint i guess since it is used as a surface prep).. because it is a small metal line i will have to be very careful if they are bad for the paint.

    • I found the same with Subaru’s.  I own and love the SG9 Forester, after that model 2008+, Subaru threw the ugly stick at all their line up and somehow managed to make them look worse with every succeeding year.  lol
    • It's something we all have to consider as time marches on. Also consider lifted rally MX5 conversion at that point.
    • I should be fine for a few more years, whilst I do have arthritis I also exercise and do mobility training every day to keep as fit and healthy as I can, military life, which is the actual cause of most of my joint issues, has set daily regimes, which I weirdly enjoy I also train alot smarter now, not really focusing on lots strength or puffy muscles, I'm more focused on maintaining what I have for my future older self, I actually train as much mobility now as I do exercising Check out this "simple" drill I have been doing daily prior to training now for a while now, this has worked wonders in my all round mobility
    • I'd say one thing that may make you sell is the same reason the guy with the hard top roof sold his. He got old, and his back was giving him too much grief stopping him getting in and out... Old guy said he was 73! He looked and sounded younger than 73 to me! Or maybe I'm just aligning with old people more...
    • Already looked at a few prior to getting the MX5, really nice car, had all the mod cons, but I wasn't really sold on the new "look" I did miss my 2017 Limited, and I personally prefer the "look" of the older car over the new model, but, when pondering I kept going back looking at MX5's But it was same same for the new ND's, I wasn't sold on the new "look", especially the RF with its weird roof, which only half goes down, like a targa top sort of thing As I stated before, I did look at NC's, but the cars I looked at were PRHT's, but I didn't like their roof line "look" of the PRHT, until I saw the soft top version, (someone on SAU posted a for sale ad for one with a soft top that caught my attention, you can blame them for my choice.....🤣) and.... that old style detachable hard tops were available for them, which keeps the old MX5 more smoother flowing roof line, and the more rounded body style, similar to the NA-NB, to me, the arse end of the ND looks to "modern" Much like how I prefer the NC1 front bar, over the later models How long will I keep this car for is unknown, but currently, there's nothing else out there that "floats my boat" for a small, fun, little "sports car", that I can play with and enjoy looking at and driving But, who knows what the future holds, and going off current new car styling, if I replace it, it will be a older model something something
