Your not wrong mate, very hard to come by these days..

I have some RA's for sale, main difference is the RA's don't have the remote canisters and extra adjustment.

Click on my link below if interested...

Yes i did read your ad before but i was recomended RS by chris himself....my plan is not to upgrade in the future but just put in the best parts when i am doing it and Chris said they are the best.....

Import them

I did look at that option...i dont really care if they are new or second hand....new ones from UK was $3500 AUD and secondhand ones i was told that i am looking around the $1000 to $1500 mark for a good condition ones...thats why i was wondering if anyone on this forum has them up for sale...or know where i can grab them off...

Fair enough, what will you be using the car for? Will you be doing a lot of track work?

If you find a set of second hand ones for $1500 that are in good condition and you don't want them let me know, I'll jump on them for that price....

Best option? Wouldnt Ohlins fall under that catagory?

Does it? not sure...i have been recomemded those by a person who does heaps of track work and works on them too...so i have been planning to go on the same track with mods...what they have is pretty much what i am looking for...

Well Chris told me that price range...so i am looking for them and havnt seen any second hand yet so cant confirm the price range.. ;)

For my car, yes i am planning to make it a track machine yet keep it simple for street use...my plan is to have this car registered for the street weekend cruising and it being an animal on the track...Doubt itll go as far as handbrake from the R35 forum (worked by mercury motorsports) but go far enough like tangomatt (Zelle worked by racepace)...thats my little project.. :P

Check these out... Yahoo Japan via Import Monster.

Was hoping noone else had seen these.

This way price will stay low for a bid

Thanks Johno for letting me know about them...ill research about them and speak to my mechanic about these....i was looking at these...

Sounds like exactly the way my car is setup at the moment. Didn't want to lose the driveability and comfort for the street and be at the pointy end of the time boards at the track.

Racepace will build you a great car, they focus a lot on the 'comfortable, quiet, track performance monster'. Does that even make any sense???

Good luck with it all and look forward to your progress.....

Best you consult with Chris (Racepace) before you consider 'other' options. The setups that Racepace prefer have undergone many hours of R&D, and the results speak for themselves....

Yes i have sent him a mail regarding these otherones and also asked him what other good options i got...atm just going to do suspension and rims and leaving it at that until i graduate...once i start working full time the car will be spending its time in their workshop... ;) ...what you got on yours? i am also considering the ones Johno showed from import monster...all depends on chris's response....

All in good time mate, I have had my car for 8 years now!!!!

I have Tein RS coilovers that have been re-valved, custom spring seats, custom springs etc...

All top secret Racepace settings...

Those Ohlins are coilover porn. Although I'll tell you a secret.

Ben's old R33 GT-R had the Ohlins, but he ended up using the Tein RS's in the end..... :D

I'd say it may have to do with the re-valving mods....

i am still drifting towards getting the RS...dont know why but it just seems to feel like waiting for them to pop up will be the most ideal way....did you buy them brand new or secondhand? if so could you pm the costs and where you sourced them from? thanks again...

  • 4 weeks later...

I would seriously buy Jacks RA. with the same valving 90% of drivers would not be able to tell the difference between the RA and the RS. the RS just have a bit of extra bling factor with the external reservoirs which are great if you do long races etc that really work the suspension hard but again for 90% of guys the RA are as good as RS.

all the RS have over RA is the external canisters which just add some extra oil capacity for heat handling and they have 4 way adjustment instead of 2 way. to be honest it's too much adjustment for literally 90% of people. you will be lost trying to get it set up right. much easier with the RAs to get them working nicely in car.

considering jacks are brand new fronts you are going to struggle to find a better set to buy either here or from japan. :P

yes i realiesed that...since i want to make my car a serious track car and put all the best goodies in it and not go for the 2nd best, ill be looking and will keep waiting for a good set of RS to come...not in any rush so the search can take its time but if there are any up for sale, ill like to know..

thanks for you advice...appreciate it :P

Cheers for the comments beer baron.

Seems like vspect has his heart set on the rs's, irrespective of performance.

Both JFK and Adam Newton run tein ra's revalved and modded by racepace and both have done 1:16's at sandown.

It's all good having the extra adjustment in the rs's, but in saying that ever since racepace installed them I have never touched them. The way they set them up seems like a good compromise for all the different tracks in Vic.

I think vspect needs to evaluate exactly what a serious track car comprises of. Are you looking at stripping the car of all unnecessary weight, adding in a cams approved weld in cage and all the other mods which strip it of it's road going capabilities? If so I would look at getting another car, coz it seems like you have a very nice example of a street gtr and would be a shame to strip it and build it into a serious track car. Although if you do decide to do it at least you have a nice example to start off with.

i know where you coming from jack...i am just sitting on racepaces recommended things i should get for my gtr to make it a real good track/street car...

But however i am not chasing high times but i am chasing the fun of building my own car and chasing parts the are hard to find...its all part of the game of having fun with the car...my plan for this car is to modify it make an animal on the track yet be on the streets for those sau events and cruises...no stripping interior and rollcage....interior is planned to keep stock but all the money is going into performace and handling...

    • I know this one’s the BB one. My tuner did make mention about the actuator. I am curious about the VCT as well
    • Might also needs a stronger actuator with the right preloading. With older 2019 built bush G3 units, BB upgrade or 21U housing down size makes a pretty decent gain in response as well.
    • Hey lads  so im finally putting together my rb30 forged bottom end and ran into an issue. I measured my main bearing clearance with arp main studs torqued to 60 ft-lbs using ACL H series STD size bearings and standard, un-ground crank shaft journals and got an oil clearance reading of about 1.3 thou measuring straight up and down and about 2.8 thou measuring at a 45 degree angle (just above and below the parting line). My machine shop said they measured the main tunnel and it was all within spec (they didnt say the actual measurement) and to go with a standard size bearing, which i have done and the clearance is too tight, I'm guessing because of the extra clamping force from the arp studs distorting the main tunnel. I was wanting to run about 2.5 thou main bearing clearance.  My questions are: 1. could i just use the HX extra 1 thou clearance ACL bearings? that would fix my straight up and down clearance making it about 2.3 thou, but then would the side to side clearance be too big at around 3.8 thou? 2. what actually is the recommended main bearing clearance for measuring near the parting line / side to side. i know its supposed to be bigger as the bearing has some eccentricity built into it but how much more clearance should there be compared to the straight up and down measurement? at the moment there is about 1.5thou difference, is that acceptable or should it be less? 3. If i took the engine block + girdle back to the machine shop and got them to line bore the main tunnel (like i told them to do the first time, but they said it didnt need it) what bearing size would i buy? the STD size bearing shells already slide in fairly easily with no real resistance, some even falling out if i tip the girdle up-side-down. If im taking material out of the main tunnel would i need a bearing with extra material on the back side to make up for it? this is probably confusing af to read so if something doesn't make sense let me know and ill try explaining in a different way. My machine shop doesn't come back from christmas break until mid January, hence why i'm asking these questions here. TIA for any help or info
    • I bought the model back in Japan in Feb. I realised I could never build it, looked around for people who could build it, turns out there's some very skilled people out there that will make copies of 1:1 cars or near enough. I'm not really a photo guy... but people were dragging me in a group chat for the choice of bumper as someone else saw the car before it was finished as they are also a customer of that shop. I took the photo in the above post because I was pretty confident that the lip would work wonders for it. Here's some more in-progress and almost-done pics. It gives a good enough idea as to what the rear looks like!   I have also booked in a track day at the end of January. Lets all hope that is nothing but pure fun and games. If it's not pure fun and games, well, I've already got half an engine spare in the cupboard
    • Well, do ya, punk? Seriously though, let's fu<king go! The colour and kit looks amazing on the car. Do you have any shots from the rear? I don't quite follow how the model came around. You bought the white kit and he modified it to match your car? Looks nuts either way!
