Hi, I'VE DONE A SEARCH but nothing gives me a completely clear answer of these questions im going to ask.

1. I'm after an r34 GTT-Cooler, i want 200rwkw (now on 190rwkw) but in a few months want 260rwkw. What intercooler will suit me?

2. Dont know much about coolers but theres some that need cutting etc etc? does that matter? or is it the same crap?

3. Chasers are gonna charge me for a Blitz Intercooler that requires no cutting for $1000 installed, is this a bit expensive? I always thought coolers would cost around $400+labour..

4. What power do you guys achieve with an added intercooler? I'm aiming for 210rwkw with turboback/power fc/pod/now with a cooler hoping to get another 15-20rwkw?

5. If theres a cheap & quality option, where can i buy it?

I'm located in Melbourne,

Cheers

$1000 installed for a blitz return flow FMIC is pretty good really. There $700 just to buy.

Just jap do a JJR return flow for a bit cheaper again, still more then $400 tho, can get a kit from Just jap for $399 but require's cutting.

return flow are the best option if you dont want to chop anything.

From research on the forum there is no retrun flow intercooler that requires no cutting. You may be able to get a custom cooler made up which doesnt require you to cut the reo bar but you will have to cut up your front bumper.

In regards to the R34 SMIC it will get some pretty bad heat soak ~210rwkw upwards.

as for the price, id say 1000 is about right. if you want to do it cheaper then check out just jap's store online.

Agreed with above - I've searched and searched ... Don't believe there is a single off the shelf front-mount intercooler that will fit without cutting the reo bar.

If you want it, you'll probably need to go custom made. If you can live with cutting the reo (potential insurance / defect issue if you get caught) then the blitz return-flow is probably your best bet.

This has been covered before... Plenty of times so not sure how the search didnt answer this but anyway...

1. Whatever, anything from the SAU traders will be fine $400-$600.

2. Yes, REO will need mods.

3. Of course it is, its Jap brand name gear. No surprise its expensive.

4. Next no none. Adding a I/C won't magically give you power really as the factory turbo is only good for a legit 190-200rwkw.

5. Again, SAU traders.

Personally I would go with the GTT smic. It will cost you about $50 and you can fit it yourself with the original hoses.

You will only get heat soak after half an hour on the dyno or if you do full boost drags from light to light all round town. Boosting on the open road the airflow will keep it cool. If you decide you want more than 200 -210 kw you are going to be spending thousands of dollars and then you may want to buy a proper front mount but if you are on a budget hang on to your money for now. I made 220awkw with a smic including track days. The only time it got too hot was on the dyno(it was a nismo, slightly better than the GTT) but you will be OK at 200 - 210 with the GTT sidemount.

i put a 34 smic on my 33 with a high flow and it felt much much better.

also ran 1 on my ceffy with big turbo before changing to fmic because people said smic was holding it back, then i got laag lol ( rb20 thou )

exactly what the above guy said, i think 34 smic only show their weakness above 220 and on a dyno for ages

=)

Go for a return flow cooler, Jap brands tend to be the best build quality and fit properly. As everyone has said you'll need to trim the reo bar, it will still be there but you'll be trimming it down and cutting the shroud in the front bar that feeds air towards the radiator. $1,000 for a jap kit fitted sounds like a good deal. I was quoted around $1200 i think for a custom job but ended up buying a ARC return flow kit and putting it on myself. The ARC kit is really light weight not sure about the cheaper kits though.

1: any decent front mount

2: a lot will require trimming of the front bar even if they don't require cutting holes for piping

3: cheap coolers start from around $400 and go up from there

4: you won't get 15 to 20kw from a cooler. maybe 5 to 10kw on a hot day after multiple runs. on a cold day less. you also won't get 210kw without the front mount. if you do then by the second or third run on the dyno power would be dropping off fast as the stock coolers suffer heat soak rather fast, especially if you gave it the beans on the way to the dyno as well.

5: the return flow ones from just jap seem to be a cheap, easy option that perform ok.

i ran a Just Jap return flow cooler with bolt ons tuned by starts at 240rwkw

its nice and legal and minimal mod to your reo. if your local to SE melbourne im more then happy to help you install.

Thanks for the offer ashneel, appreciate it :(

But i've booked in @ chasers now, the warm weather coming up just gave me a reason to chuck a cooler in and gain an extra 10-15rwkw.

Thank you, melbourne weather.

    • Right, here's a video of the basic operation at least.  This is what you can expect day to day when you turn the car on and it boots from standby.  The only thing from a media point of view I haven't gotten working is for it to autoplay plexamp when it turns on from standby (it works from cold boot) but that's more of a plexamp problem as it will autoplay other music players.  Also attached is my one stray cable.  It's part of the screen's wiring adapters but there's just nowhere for it to go in my car.  I've just now done a bit of research and found a matching port on a 2010-2014 head unit with BOSE.  Mine has no BOSE so that's that case pretty much closed I think.  Plugging in the Infiniti AC panel basically did nothing for me, so that's a dead end as well.  Next port of call is to mess with this CANBUS module and see what I can find from it.  I found this resource containing the DBC files for a 2010+ G37 : https://github.com/icecube45/Dash_InfinitiG37/blob/master/InfinitiG37.dbc I'll now have something to go from when I try to extract my CANBUS data so I can see if the HVAC Mode, Fan Speed, Temperature, etc. match and also the gear shifter position.  It's a pretty big assumption that it's just mismatched CAN signals but considering all the devices in the CAN network are talking to each other (AC can be fully adjusted just with no info on screen) it might be a safe one.  I will report back WhatsApp Video 2025-02-26 at 12.49.10.mp4
    • Thanks for that Paul.  Do you think if I posted a picture you'd be able to remember where it went?
    • Sorry Duncan, I didn't get a notification for the replies.  Thanks for responding!  It's a full Android device, but does allow you to use CarPlay/AA as well.  This is the one I bought from NaviRS on AliExpress: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006368602668.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.111.59aa1802JDzQ0E - the 2K 8G-256G CAM variant but it seems to have gone up by £170 since I bought it!  My purchase was £307.14.   It's not the fastest thing in the world but performs perfectly adequately.  It stays on standby unless I disconnect the battery and let it power down, then it's just a fairly standard Android bootup time from cold.  The DSP Equaliser is very nice and made the standard stereo system sound pretty decent compared to the stock screen.  Perhaps I can take a video of it when I get a sec. It *allegedly* supports the reverse camera, but I'm yet to get that working.  It has options for reverse cam (a camera unit can be bought separately) or 360 cameras (also bought separately).  To be fair it doesn't seem to detect that the shifter was put into reverse but I'm working on a theory about this as well.  At the moment I'm going without which is a bit annoying considering the car is an absolute canal barge but so far I haven't caused any damage I'll grab a picture of the wire I'm missing later today when I can get outside.  My theory, by the by, is that not only is the head unit different, but the CANBUS network has different signals for the different years.  I think this because I have a spare AC panel from a newer Infiniti G37 (as opposed to my Nissan panel) which wouldn't control anything except the volume when I had it wired up with the stock system.  I'm going to throw it back in and see if the screen will respond to it.  I've just ordered an arduino CANBUS module so I can have a look at the signals going around the car and see if I can spot anything.  I'm thinking if I can work out what it's expecting vs what it's getting I might be able to translate and relay the signal back but so far just a theory anyway. I also found this on my travels, so far the only one that specifically matches my car: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002822934280.html?spm=a2g0s.imconversation.0.0.33433e5fgttovi If you look at the picture of the before, it has the card reader slot, and the picture of the head unit is exactly the same as the one pictured in my original post.  I asked if they sell the cables separately but sadly they won't.  I didn't want to just buy this one because it's a super old Android version and only dual core - likely slow as hell.
    • As above, you did refill the coolant and burp the system before running it again didn't you?
    • To be fair - you see the same thing for every clutch. There's always someone making an installation error.
